What stunt did your D&D players pull that completely derailed the campaign?

I practically made a DM cry, and it was his own fault. He gave my ranger a custom made bow that, upon uttering the name of the bow (THUNK), would guarantee a critical hit at the expense of a permanent loss of a constitution point PER SHOT. So obviously, I didn’t use the command word ever, I just used it as a regular bow. Eventually, he must have forgotten about it. In a subsequent campaign, one of the treasures to choose from was a quiver of gold arrows with jewel encrusted heads that would transform the target into a jewel encrusted gold statue before disintegrating, so I chose those. The next campaign, we fight our way through the first series of encounters and get to the first encounter with the big bad vampire sorcerer guy, which we are supposed to lose and set up the rest of the adventure as we quest to recover whatever mcguffin he took after he beat us. First action, I nock one of the jewel arrows, take aim and said THUNK. The DM’s face dropped. By his own rules (which to his credit, he stuck to) the arrow automatically critically hit him, transforming him into a gold statue encrusted with jewels. The DM had no back up plan. It was a hollow victory, because it sorta ruined all the fun that day, but we carved that sucker up to finance our further adventures and lived like kings for the next few sessions.EDIT: Thanks for the upvotes. One person commented but now I can’t find it, pointing out I didn’t actually answer the OP’s question about getting only good rolls, that it wasn’t the DMs fault, it was MY fault for not reminding the DM I had this amazing weapon and potentially one hit killer arrows, and that I was wrong for not ignoring the weapon or arrows in the campaign because of their potentially game upsetting potential. In my defense, A.) I did apologize to the DM eventually, and he used it as a learning experience; B.) I was 16, and not thinking like an adult because I wasn’t one, I simply saw a problem and came up with an expeditious solution; C.) Who wouldn’t use that combo against a big bad at least once?! Sorry to the OP if I didn’t answer the question in the correct spirit.

As a Dungeon Master, what's the weirdest in-universe legal issue your PCs have run into?

Q: As a Dungeon Master, what's the weirdest in-universe legal issue your PCs have run into?A: After having the PCs getting a ridiculous big dragon hoard, I realised that I just broke the game.So I had the entire hoard confiscated by the King, followed by Dwarves starting a legal dispute about ownership of the hoard, and the players were a part of it for at least a finder’s fee, and possibly ownership of a huge part of it since the dragon had been hoarding since Time Immemorial and thus nobody could claim ownership to parts of the treasure. The players also tried an extension of salvage ownership from maritime law.Since the Dwarves owned the Dwarf-hold that the dragon used as a nest, they claimed rent for the Dwarf-hold, plus back interest, plus of course they claimed ownership to all the treasures looted from Dwarves. The Crown claimed that the dragon hoard was salvaged from the Crown’s land, and thus it was his by ownership of the land. They also claimed income tax, plus all gold coins as gold coins was Crown currency. The local landlord also claimed damages for all farms burned down, sheep eaten and people killed by the dragon, including his daughter. And on top of that, just about everyone ever claimed some specific item from the dragon hoard. It ended with the characters just taking the reward for killing the dragon, and then helped elves and giants to gain their specific heirlooms back (they stole them), and just ignored the hoard for the rest of the campaign. Now and then, their lawyer would come and give them progress reports on the case, plus present a bill for his services and expenditures since the last time. He usually showed up just after the players had made a particular windfall from their adventures, and the bill usually amounted to just under the amount of loot they had from that particular adventure. The matter ended when the King got dragon sickness, stole the entire treasure and sailed off, only to sink in a storm, because the ship was overloaded with gold.

What is your opinion of the latest gimmick of the BJP, the imminent fast by our honourable PM Narendra Modi, given that it's a popular way to grab everyone's attention? Do you think it will backfire?

BJP is now fully in the election mode. They have to face several state elections in 2018 and the General Parliamentary Election in 2019.They have already been in power for four years and yet failed to fulfill their tall promises. They certainly can’t go before the people with the promise of ‘Acche Din’ (Good days) as in 2014, as they have already been in power for almost four years with little difference in the ground condition.Modi ji unfortunately can’t repeat the statement in the election campaign of 2014 as he would be completing 60 months by the Parliamentary elections: "You gave Congress 60 years, give BJP just 60 months…We will change India's future and bring about development in 60 months.”There has been so many bank-frauds in recent times that he can’t even speak these lines: “Don’t make me the PM, make me the watchman. I will be the watchman who will never let anyone steal India's treasure."[1]He is in no position to make new promises as people have seen the fate of his earlier promises. The next best thing is to get the sympathy of the people by fasting against the actions of the opposition parties.Usually fasting is the trick that works for the opposition parties who are not in power. If the PM, the most powerful man of India, himself portrays as the victim, God only can save India, himself and his party, unless the people of India are as stupid as our great politicians presume them to be.Footnotes[1] https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/narendra-modi-you-gave-congress-60-years-give-bjp-60-months-to-change-indias-future/articleshow/24702719.cms
