Why is Karnataka govt reluctant to release water to TN ?

Hey sis/bro ( I am confused about this because u were too scared to not to be anonymous),I don’t want to vaguely argue that Kannadigas are not selfish, because one day you might anonymously request me to answer “Why kannadigas give vague answers?”. So, I am giving you some facts regarding Kaveri issue. And yeah, I am expecting another anonymous request from you “Why kannadigas give facts from other websites, but not write answers on their own?”.P.S: I won’t answer it :)Oh!! You have changed the question too.. At first the question was “Why are Kannadigas selfish?”Ok..let me start. Be ready for a really long gyaan :)Kaveri issue is not new. It is very old. It originated in 2 agreements in 1892 and 1924 between the erstwhile Madras Presidency and Princely State of Mysore. Decades of negotiation didn’t work.Let us see what happened after India got Independence. As we all know, states were formed on linguistic basis. Now, Kerala and Puducherry also claimed for a share along with Karnataka and Tamilnadu. In 1990, a 3 man tribunal was formed headed by Justice Chittatosh Mookerjee as per the directions of Supreme Court. In cubic kilometer,Karnataka claimed 13Kerala claimed 2.83Puducherry claimed 0.3Tamilnadu claimed16 for Tamilnadu and Puducherry5 for Karnataka0.1 for Keralaper yearSoon after the tribunal was set up, Tamilnadu demanded a mandatory injunction on Karnataka for the immediate release of water and other reliefs, which was dismissed by the tribunal. Tamilnadu went back to Supreme Court which ordered the tribunal to reconsider Tamilnadu’s request. So, an interim award was given to Tamilnadu and the tribunal ordered Karnataka to immediately release 5.8 cubic kilometer of water to Tamilnadu and also ordered Karnataka to not to increase its irrigated land area from existing 1,120,000 acres. Obviously, Karnataka issued an ordinance to annul the tribunal’s award (selfish people you see). But Supreme Court struck down the ordinance. In 1995,Monsoons failed in KarnatakaTamilnadu approached Supreme Court, for the release of 30 billion cubic feet of Kaveri waterSupreme Court asked Tamilnadu to approach the tribunalTribunal ordered Karnataka to release 11 billion cubic feet of Kaveri water to TamilnaduKarnataka didn’t agree to release, because monsoons had failed (selfish people you see)Tamilnadu approached Supreme Court againSupreme Court asked the then Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao to find a political solution to this issuePM called a meeting with the Chief Ministers of both the states and recommended that Karnataka should release 6 billion cubic feet of Kaveri waterKarnataka agreed (selfish people you see)All things were complicated by the interim award. It didn’t have a clear cut formula that everyone agreed upon to share the water in case monsoon fails.Let’s see what happend in 2002Both Karnataka and Tamilnadu faced severe droughtReservoirs fell to record low levelsTamilnadu demanded that Karnataka should release its share of water as per the interim awardKarnataka resisted to this, since it didn’t have enough water to meet it’s own needs (selfish people you see)On August 27, CRA (Cauvery River Authority-which consisted of the CMs of 4 states, with PM being the Chairman) called a meeting to settle the issue. Tamilnadu CM, Jayalalitha walked out of the meetingSupreme Court ordered Karnataka to release 1.25 billion cubic feet everyday unless revised by CRAKarnataka requested for another meetingAnother CRA meeting was held on September 8, Jayalalitha boycotted it giving a reason of “insufficient notice”CRA revised court’s order and recommended Karnataka to release 0.8 billion cubic feet of Kaveri water per dayKarnataka refused to this because it didn’t have enough water to quench the thirst of it’s selfish peopleTamilnadu approached Supreme CourtKarnataka finally agreed to release the quantity of water recommended by the CRA (ufff!! selfish people u see)On September 18, Karnataka stopped the release of water as the protests took dangerous turnCentre asked Karnataka to release waterMeanwhile, Supreme Court asked CRA for details of the water release and water levels in the reservoirsOn October 3, Supreme Court ordered Karnataka to comply with the CRA and resume the release of waterKarnataka refusedTamilnadu filed a petition against KarnatakaThis resulted in protests in both the statesOn February 5 2007, the tribunal gave its verdictIn cubic kilometer,Tamilnadu got a share of 12Karnataka got a share of 7.6Kerala got a share of 0.8Puducherry got a share of 0.2per yearNow 2012On September 19, the then PM and the Chairman of CRA, Manmohan Singh ordered Karnataka to release 9000 cusecs of water to Tamilnadu everydayYes, you guessed it right. Karnataka’s monsoons had failed that year too, making kannadigas to look like villainsOn September 21, Karnataka filed a petition before CRA to review the order of September 19On September 24, Tamilnadu filed a petition before Supreme Court, asking it to direct Karnataka to release water to TamilnaduOn September 28, Supreme Court slammed the selfish Karnataka for failing to comply with CRAKarnataka started releasing 9000 cusecs of water to Tamilnadu everyday (hmmm..selfish people everywhere)On October 4, Karnataka filed petition before Supreme Court to bring a stay on September 28’s order till October 15On October 8, Supreme Court orders Karnataka to release 9000 cusecs of water everydayThe PM ruled out a review of the CRA’s decision until October 20, rejecting the plea by both the Congress and BJP leaders of Karnataka. Karnataka immediately stopped the release of Kaveri water to Tamilnadu (how cruel!!)On October 9, the Tamilnadu CM directed the authorities to file a complaint against Karnataka for not abiding by the orders of Supreme CourtOn October 17, Tamilnadu made a plea to Supreme Court that Karnataka should make good the shortfall of 48tmcft of water as per the distress sharing formulaOn November 15, Cauvery Monitoring Committee(CMC) ordered Karnataka to release 4.81tmcft of water between 16th and 30th NovemberOn December 6, Supreme Court ordered Karnataka to release 10,000 cusecs of water to TamilnaduIn 2016On September 5, Supreme Court has ordered the selfish Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water to Tamilnadu for 10 daysEnd of gyaan.I have a doubt..If ur family and ur neighbour’s family is hungry, whom would u feed first? It’s not about being selfish, it is all about priority. To u, Tamilnadu is the priority. To me, Karnataka is the priority.Although you have changed the question, I know it is that same first question which is still running in your mind. If Kannadigas were selfish, they wouldn’t have helped during Chennai floods. And yeah! For ur info..Ur CM has her roots in this selfish Karnataka. If you know what I mean.. ;)I smelled hatred in your question and its description.Grow up. I feel sorry for you..Source: WikipediaYou can also read Kaveri River Water Sharing : What Are The Solutions? Thanks for A2A by the way :) and forgive me for bad English..

How well did the Maltese defend Malta in WW2?

Exceptionally. So much so, seeAward of the George Cross to Malta - WikipediaRoosevelt Citation to Malta, December 7, 1943Operation Pedestal - Wikipedia“In 1942 the tiny island of Malta became the most bombed place on earth, the concentration of bombs far surpassing that suffered by London in the Blitz”http://ww2today.com/new/2014-2/the-bombing-of-maltaMy grandfather commanded the Royal Malta Artillery units that saw off the Luftwaffe from Ft St Elmo and Ft St Angelo. He was the last artillery commander of Ft Rinella. All his command were Maltese troops and most of the regimental commanders were Maltese officers. Malta’s air defence was co-ordinated by the CRA (Command Royal Artillery). My grandparents, mother, uncle, and great aunts were blitzed out of their home in Valletta. My mother, uncle and grandmother were at the Grand Harbour to greet the Malta Convoy.
