PDF Editor FAQ

Since Elon Musk gave away Tesla’s car technology patents, why is it repeatedly stated that other car companies need billions in R&D, and can't catch up to Tesla quality EV production?

You’re assuming that Tesla’s patents have value. Most patents don’t, even though companies and individuals spend billions prosecuting them in all sorts of industries. In the car business, there are almost infinite ways to do things. Patents simply aren’t that interesting in practice, and most car companies have well developed ways of doing things that aren’t identical to each others. Nissan or Ford use different fasteners, Mercedes and Toyota might use different materials for connecting rod wrist pins. They can patent those things all they want, but it won’t stop them from developing their own components, designs and subsystems. Its what makes those companies what they are. Also, don’t assume that what Tesla patented has applicability to the way other car manufacturers see their electrification efforts unfolding. Just because Tesla did it, it might be completely irrelevant for VW say, or Ford.Candidly, this whole Tesla patent thing is kind of nothing. Controlling electric motors simply isn’t that hard. Building them isn’t hard either. Neither is making batteries. All of these things are commodities for the most part. To Tesla’s credit, they were the first to package this stuff up and make something that people actually wanted to buy, but assuming their patents are magical is completely wrong.

Will UK wages ever catch up with unaffordable house prices?

House prices will remain out of reach for many of our young. Where there is employment there will always be a high demand for housing. House prices are ridiculous and a person retiring will sell at a very high price and move to the countryside or seaside and push up prices where there are few jobs.Since the Banks mishandling of loans, the cost of them is now beyond many at the bottom of the ladder.Maybe, a self-assessment of house value linked with a new community charge rate would flatten off the rising value of houses. E.g. to qualify for the minimum community charge a selection of say band F for a single person living in a four-bedroom house with no mortgage would cap its value for a new buyer. If on its sale it exceeds the cap value then retrospective community tax banding would be taken into account. Those who own houses in the millions would then necessarily want to retain its value and ensure they voluntarily pay the maximum community banding charge. Those who have a mortgage would need to carefully consider their self-assessment community banding-charge to ensure they are not in a negative equity situation. If they do sell at a higher value, then the local council will stand for a windfall on community tax on the sale.In industrial Britain during the Victorian era, the industry provided workers tied accommodation. With pubs and shops on street corners. It proved a cost-effective answer. Companies could move to areas that could offer gated communities and staff, a secure and very clean environment with zero commuting its own policing/security and a vehicle-free environment for families. Family cars could be kept underground so that visits outside the gated community is possible. Underground Malls could be possible with all services under the surface and out of sight. These would effectively be new towns and might have names such as Microsoft or Amazon or any of the multi-billion dollar companies that occupy space in large cities and contribute to the traffic and to pollution. We don’t need electric cars on our roads. We don’t need the whispering death to other road users. We need to rethink for the future. Building homes for staff in a clean and beautiful and safe environment and putting the essential services and supplies underground could be the future. But what if you are not a multi-Billion dollar company? Then you too can relocate and build foundations that are ready for a country-barn like structure with huge glass windows that are fully insulated and can have as few or as many rooms within the empty internal volume that are needed by the owners. These would be low-cost housing but within a space near the workplace but all blend within a country environment. Small hamlets and a business Similar to the gated community but houses bought and owned by the workers. If they leave, the house is returned to its shell-like state for new owners to customise. The future has to be rethought. There is little point in just hoping that house prices will come down because to many it is their one and only investment to leave behind as a mark of their existence. The business hamlets and gated communities can be achieved and a cleaner and safer environment can be had by the majority. There will always be the exceptions that cry freedom. They will see these communities as being them and us situation and fiercely oppose it. They exist now and will never go away. However, with a more prosperous and healthier society we can do more to ensure those that are less fortunate are not left out in the cold. Support staff are always needed and the underground supermarkets need manpower as do the waste services. What in that case do people need. A roof over their head, water, heat, light, entertainment and food. All of these things in exchange for their time. There would have to be some considerable tax reforms so that there was no benefits-in-kind imposed. The trade is quite simple a person gives their time. If it is 37 hours a week at any unskilled job then they get full entitlement. If they show application and commitment then their entitlement is boosted by a currency of choice. Perhaps company credits that can be used at a local pub or recreation area.If we don’t start to do something more radical than force people to buy electric vehicles then house prices will continue to rise and salaries will continue to be affected by economic forces. If the future is digital then our survival will need to also radically adjust to keep up. It is going nowhere at the moment. We are just kneading doe in the hope that when left alone it will rise. But technology is holding the yeast and yeast on its own and held in offshore vats is doing nobody any good. That untapped resource of money and human time need to merge The doe needs the yeast and the yeast needs the doe. All we need to exist is bread. Pun intended.Microsoft, stop making billions and then have a guilt trip and give it away to avoid taxation. Make communities and rebuild for the future you will save the tax by doing so. You will help communities realise the digital age. Here are the top 10 highest earning companies worldwide.Walmart – $514.4 billion revenue in 2019Sinopec Group – $414.6 billion revenue in 2019Royal Dutch Shell – $396.5 billion revenue in 2019China National Petroleum – $392.9 billion revenue in 2019State Grid – $387 billion in revenue in 2019Saudi Aramco – $355.9 billion revenue in 2019BP – $303.7 billion revenue in 2019Exxon Mobil – $290.2 billion revenue in 2019Volkswagen – $278.3 billion revenue in 2019Toyota Motor – $272.6 billion revenue in 2019If any feel the desire to give something back to society then they should be housing their workers and reducing commuting and its harm to the environment. We could start at the top and slowly work our way down to Apple and Microsoft. You are, after all, only there because of the people. Take away the people and what happens?Housing and employment is a worldwide problem and requires a worldwide solution. Pollution is also linked to this. It requires a holistic approach not isolated and damaging legislation by politicians. The smart need to take the lead for the dim-witted to follow. The desperate will always cling to straws whereas the life changers will invent the rope.
