PDF Editor FAQ

As a nurse or doctor, have you ever suffered an on-the-job injury? How did it occur? Did you require medical treatment?

Many times. My first time (like most first times) was the most memorable. I was an intern sewing up a laceration in the children’s hospital emergency department. The child I was working on had been remarkably calm. She didn’t even move or make a sound when I started anesthetizing her wound with lidocaine. I was becoming more and more confident with each pass of the needle. As I was finishing up with the last injection she suddenly screamed and pulled her arm away. When she did this, I pulled the needle out of her wound and as I sort of rebounded I drove the needle right into my left hand. My right thumb was on the plunger of the syringe and I was applying pressure so, when the needle plunged into my hand I injected myself with a used, hollow core needle.I rapidly pulled the needle out of my hand as though maybe I could reverse what had happened. I could almost immediately see my own blood spreading out between my skin and the translucent, rubber glove. I felt hot all over. I thought I might get sick. I excused myself and took off my glove at the sink and started washing my hand. I squeezed the injection site and stimulated more bleeding. I hardly needed to though. It seemed to bleed really freely. I excused myself from the room and went to talk to my attending. The policy at that time was to obtain “source blood” for Hepatitis and HIV testing. I would also be tested and start on medicine for HIV prophylaxis if the patient was high risk and then be re-tested in six months. I felt fortunate that my patient was a toddler. That felt really low risk. But, after my attending interviewed the mother to obtain consent for testing, he told me she was a prostitute. So, I ended up on HIV prophylaxis.I was pretty freaked out for a few days, but as the tests all started coming back negative I felt better. I almost forgot to get redrawn in six months. By that time I had already had another needle stick.

What's the most disturbing thing you've ever seen a doctor do?

We had a 80 year old female admitted in our ward with extremely low Blood pressure. Her pressures were always in 60/30mmHg. She was definitely a ticking bomb. She had come to the city for treatment from a nearby village. This meant that explaining her condition to her family was very challenging. Although they were sweet and understanding but there were some things involved in her management that they were afraid for us to start. We wanted her to get a feeding tube since her body was not getting enough nutrients. And that was also one of the reasons her blood pressure was not going up.The family was slightly skeptical about putting a tube through the old lady's nose. In the families defence, they were never explained the benefits of it. I was following this patient like a Hawk for 3 days and I didn't see any doctor come in to councel the family about the possible management options . Anytime her Bp went too low, all we did was inject some inotropes and give continuous fluids. So after 3 days, another new doctor asked me about her and what was been done with her.Her - Why is she not on a feeding tube?Me- Idk. The Family didn't want to put a tube through the patient.Her- *boiling with anger*. Call her family.I call the patients daughter to meet the doctor. I wish things had been better but this was how the conversation or actually the ultimatum went-Doctor - Why aren't you letting us put a tube?Patient- We are scared it will hurt her. She is so weak already.Doctor - ‘ Agar Aapko inko Maarna hai toh Bahar jaakay Marien’Translation - If you want to kill her, go kill her outside and not in this hospital'At this point the patient bursted in tears and made a few calls back home. She comes in 10 min later and gives consent for us to put an NG tube. This conversation could have been so much better. We are always taught since day 1 of med school about ethics and communication and empathy. I didn't see an ounce of it in this situation. It was sad to see a doctor talk this rudely to a patient. And definitely disturbing.Note to all new budding doctors - Always respect your patient. Understand that they are scared. And there is always a way to explain them things. You don't have to scare them or be rude to them.Be kind. Be nice. They will listen to a doctor who listens to them.Happy living!

What is the most badass thing your parent has ever done?

In the year 2011 , I was admitted to hospital because of stomach ache , vomiting and acidity.I couldn't eat anything and I felt like vomiting when I saw the food .At first they administered various medicines through IV .They gave a particular 60 ml medicine through IV and I had some sort of allergic reaction to it .I started shivering a lot …too much of shivering . Immediately they gave another injection and within 10 min shivering reduced .No one answered out doubts regarding what happened to me.The next day I was feeling better but when they gave the same medicine through IV , I felt dizzy .Next day my uncle informed doctor that I was having some sort of reaction to that particular medicine .After a brief check up , doctor instructed the nurse to stop using that particular medicine .They started injecting loads of medicine through IV for every 6 hours .None of the doctors told what was going on with me even when my uncle and mom repeatedly asked about it .On 4 th day , I was feeling fine . I ate food and all my issues were gone . By then I was frustrated and fed up of that hospital atmosphere .I wanted to go home and asked my uncle to tell doctor about it .Both hands were swelled till the elbow because of repeated insertion of cathedral at various places for injecting medicines .My uncle was frustrated because no one told what was wrong with me and no one even cared to answer our questions.I was so fed up and refused to let them to inject injections .The nurse created a mess and my uncle said that until the doctor answers the question — I won't let you to inject my niece as you people wish .After an hour , she bought a paper with a statement like — “I refused to take the medication" and she forced me to sign .My uncle said that my niece won't sign anything without her dad's consent .My dad was traveling from Chennai to our place . By the time he reached it was around 8 p.m.He came to hospital and met the doctors who directed him to meet the head of the hospital. My dad told that he was not happy with the way how his daughter was treated without telling anything about her health condition .They asked him to sign the paper which the nurse asked me to sign . My dad signed it and he asked the doctor to discharge me.After a long argument finally they agreed to discharge and luckily by 09.30 p.m we came out of the hospital after paying the bills .We got the follow up treatment through our family doctor who said that - the medicines administered to me by the hospital doctors was too strong and really not necessary for acidity issues .Luckily by the efforts of my uncle and dad , I escaped from the clutches of the corporate hospital.Within a couple of days , I recovered completely .

I first bought CocoDoc 3 months ago and thought it was okay at first. I then submitted some support questions and got responses and a couple of them were fixed. Then I got a more stubborn issue. Each time I went to save a PDF that someone sent me (from within my company), I got a popup saying I needed to buy the application. I reported that and it took weeks to resolve that. The last straw was getting an CocoDoc update that triggered my malware protection software. I had to remove the update, scan the whole computer and now CocoDoc is OFF my computer. I will NOT reload it. I've never had a vendor update trigger my AVP software before and I've been using PCs since 1983.
