PDF Editor FAQ

How long tetanus toxoid shot grant immunity to a person who was not vaccinated against tetanus?

You need one shot every 10 years.People take Tetanus toxoid for every injury. This is wrong as too much of it is counter-productive.Since you were last immunized 3 years back and have already taken about 20 dosage so far, it does not matter at this stage ,what your childhood immunization record was.

How long are children's medical records kept? I need to know about childhood immunizations.

It depends on the provider. I was able to get my 21-year old son’s immunization records from his pediatrician. Most states have varying regulations to how long medical records are kept, which is typically about 10 years.

At what point in your life is the best to serve in the Peace Corps?

I joined in 1976, when I was 25 years old. After being conditionally accepted, I had to get a physical exam, an eye exam, and a couple of shots. I was in great health, was young and fit, and the process was easy.Last year, my husband and I applied and received our conditional acceptance. I was 65 and he was 69. But this time around, we each had more than 30 “medical tasks” to complete, all within a 2-month time period. In addition to the physical, we were asked to get things like colon cancer screening, electrocardiograms, and because we couldn’t produce our childhood immunization records from 55 years ago, we would have to get all those shots all over again. Finally, just before one doctor’s appointment, where I would have to demonstrate to my doc that I couldn’t hold a squat position for 3 minutes (I can’t even get INTO a squat position!) we mutually decided we didn’t want to pursue it anymore. Much of the required medical tests were not covered by our Medicare, and we had already spent more than a thousand bucks on the tests. I can completely understand why the Peace Corps had to be selective and cautious with our applications, but I still feel that part of it was completely ageist. So, despite the other comments about “right now” being the best time to serve, I think that being young and healthy gives one a much better chance of being accepted.
