Is a computer science degree overrated?

No, not if you paid attention in class. Some people expect to be Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, or Mark Zuckerburg right after college. Sadly, some also expect to win the lottery, think the world is specifically against them, And that everyone else has it better.No. The universe doesn’t owe anyone anything. Especially if you took a CompSci course and decided to not pay attention.CompSci is not equal to software engineering. Software engineering is a limited and small sub-branch of what you can do with CompSci.CompSci is a sub division of mathematics. Math. Like 1+1. That you can use at the market, buying a car, or reviewing your future. Math. The stuff that calculates astral bodies like red-shift in physics. The stuff that predicts biochemical reactions. The stuff that allows you to browse the Internet. Math is a foundation for many many things, not just software engineering.I’ve been programming since I was 10. Self taught, yeah.Whilst some might bucket me in, “oh you don’t need college then right? You taught yourself!”I say, “No, I learned a lot from my degree.”These things are not mutually exclusive: teach your self or go to college? No, you should do both. College gives you the art, history, and progression of computer science. The “how it put us on the moon”, the “why does it all work at all?”, and the “I understand it’s fundamentals, now I am ready to innovate.”People that get degrees at below standard colleges, and those that did not pay attention, sorry. You wasted your money; You should ask for your money back.I step out of University of California, Berkeley in 2005. Double major: CompSci and Mathematics. That day, I had no idea the power of the knowledge that was drilled into me.By 2007, I had built a 64-bit database used by The United States of America Department of Defense for a project called US-VISIT.By 2008, I built an election identification system to help spread and keep democracy.By 2009, I built several international systems that used software and algorithms to catch criminals, serial killers, and rapists. I have had an impact on the lives of this world in the US, Canada, China, Latin America, and the EU.By 2010, I had solved several cold cases and given tramatized families closure for their lost loved ones.By 2012, I had built an award winning Physical Access Control System that was protecting missile silos, border crossings, and other vital assets. 3M, Make it Yours Physcial access readerBy 2013, I accomplished my life’s dream of making a video game in the game industry. Nameless the Hackers RPG.By 2016, I joined a genetic diagnostics lab to find and identify rare diseases in sick and ill patients. To assist physicians and providers on their life’s work, caring and healing the sick. Fulgent Genetics - Leading Experts of Next Generation SequencingBy 2018, I’m working to scale and expand our science to the rest of the world. James Liu's answer to Why does science not give people a cure for cancer?Definitely, a computer science degree can be overrated. Specifically if you choose to do nothing with it.The fact is, CompSci is a form of Math. Math can be applied to nearly everything. It just a matter of not seeing yourself as a programmer, but to see yourself as someone that can touch and apply your knowledge to each and every industry in the whole world.Software engineering is not an industry, it’s a skill. It applies to all industries available today.

Why homeopathy is considered as alternative medicine and not as mainstream medicine?

The question, “why homeopathy is considered as alternative medicine and not as mainstream medicine?” is to be answered in two steps.STEP ONE:The so called main stream medicine is a huge industry generating trillions of dollars per annum. And the profit margin is from 25 to 1000%. There are so many beneficiaries who reap their harvest through this facilitator.Clinics and hospitals of various sizes and offering various services and facilities.Clinical laboratories and scanning centres.Wholesale distributors and dealers of laboratory chemicals, reagents and equipments.Manufacturers of laboratory chemicals, reagents and equipments.Medical shops.Wholesale distributors for drugs.Pharmaceutical companies of various sizes from small scale repackers to multinational corporations.Retailers, dealers and manufacturers of hospital furnitures.Retailers, dealers and manufacturers of biomedical equipments.Retailers, dealers and manufacturers of surgical instruments.Retailers, dealers and manufacturers of surgical disposables.Retailers, dealers and manufacturers of other allied products.Manufacturers of biotechnology products.Research institutes in biotechnology.Medical colleges, dental colleges, nursing colleges, pharmacy colleges, other para medical institutions.Entrance coaching centres.Doctors, nurses and other paramedics.Insurance companies and their agents.Publishing companies and book sellers of various medical and allied books.Multinational companies manufacturing high-tech equipments like CT scan, MRI scan, PET scan, Cathlab, LASER equipments etc…Companies manufacturing specialized automobiles like ambulance. So the lobby behind the conventional treatment is huge. The influence they exert on the lawmakers is powerful to categorize Homoeopathy as an alternative system of treatment.STEP TWO :Every allopathic doctor worth his salt know for sure that Homoeopathy, if allowed to flourish, is a real threat to the very existence of “their system”.So naturally they utilize every available occasion to drub Homoeopathy. They use all sorts of filthy words to denegrate this noble system of treatment. They, with their money power and clout influence the lawmakers and lobby the WHO to formulate laws and rules to help them generously. And by hook or crook utilize every available opportunity to suffocate and strangulate Homoeopathy by denying funds for research and development of this system. But since homoeopathy is founded on natural laws, it has a very strong and unshakable foundation. All natural laws are the ultimate truth. Here is an example for the lobbying of allopathic health industry on the American government. The following long list of homoeopathic Medical colleges in the U.S. established in the 1890’s functioned perfectly, which are now closed through lobbying :Hahnemann Medical college, San Francisco, California.Washington Homoeopathic Medical college, Washington, Columbia.Chicago Homoeopathic Medical college, Chicago, Illinois.Dunham Medical college, Chicago, Illinois.German Homoeopathic Medical college, Chicago, Illinois.German American Homoeopathic Medical college, Chicago, Illinois.Hahnemann Medical college and Hospital of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois.Hering Medical college, Chicago, Illinois.Southwestern Homoeopathic Medical college and Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky.Detroit Homoeopathic Medical college, Detroit, Michigan.Michigan school of homoeopathy and surgery, Detroit, Michigan.University of Michigan Homoeopathic Medical School, Ann Arbor, Michigan.University of Minnesota college of homoeopathic medicine and surgery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.Hahnemann Medical college of Kansas city university, Kansas city, Missouri.Hering Medical college, St.Louise, Missouri.Homoeopathic Medical college of Kansas city, Kansas city, Missouri.Homoeopathic Medical college of Missouri, St. Louise, Missouri.Kansas city Hahnemann Medical college, Kansas city, MMissouri.Kansas city Homoeopathic Medical college, Kansas city, Missouri.St.Louise college of Homoeopathic medicine, St. Louise, Missouri.St.Louise Hahnemann Medical college, St. Louise, Missouri.University of Nebraska college of medicine, Homoeopathic department, Lincoln, Nebraska.Homoeopathic Medical college for women, Cleveland, Ohio.Ohio State university college of homoeopathic medicine, Columbus, Ohio.Hahnemann Medical college of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.North American academy of the Homoeopathic healing art, Allentown, Pennsylvania.Closure of the above institutions speaks for itself. The questions : “how this much colleges were started and functioned very well for decades?”and “why they are shut down now?” are to be answered by the anti-homoeopathic lobby.Hope you got the answer.

What could a child realistically do if they wanted to see a doctor, but their parents won't allow it?

If you live in California then minor consent laws give youth permission to see a provider of the healing arts (biological or psychological) if the presenting problem is depression, suicidal thoughts and/ or plans, sexual behavior, sexual orientation or gender identity. It is probably different in different states, so google “minor consent” and the US state or the country that you live in.It it is pretty rare that a child uses this law, so the provider might balk and look it up or consult with a lawyer. Go to someone you know and trust. In the US, there is usually no built in punishment for a provider who calls your parents and asks them for consent to treat you (the Scandanavian countries might treat this in the same way as breaking adult confidentiality.)Providers who specialize in treating teens have more experience with this and are probably going to be looking more for physical, emotional or sexual abuse — and neglect — then with clients they usually see. This is based on anecdotal experience, instead of “facts” because we don’t keep track of how clients who come in to care under minor consent are the same or different than those who come in the 99% way.I agree with the other responses, it is optimal if you can find an adult you trust and can confide in and share your concerns. A grandparent, aunt or uncle, or older adult sibling would be ideal. Otherwise, school nurses and social workers are trained in how to help you.In the US, the other issue is money related. If you are lucky enough to have insurance than you will have to pay the co-pay and there is an anti-insurance fraud law that sends the insured (your parent) a form documenting who in the family was seen by which doctor and for how much. It is on you to protect your privacy and have that sent to you (to you ATTN your school : nurse or social worker.) if you are a 17 year old college freshman, you can have it sent to your dorm. The insurance company must protect your privacy due to HIPAA, so they are motivated to not get in trouble and get fined. But they won’t know unless you call them.If you don’t have insurance, call your county’s department of health (or mental health). They will probably have you talk to a social worker first to figure out what is going on. If your health/mental health problem is expensive they will try to get reimbursed through emergency Medicaid. Even though this is a government entity, they follow the same rule as insurance companies— so advocate that their anti insurance fraud statement is not sent to your parents. This is is hard to do. If you are depressed, have an STD from a partner you thought was exclusive or pregnant then you are stressed enough. I am sorry you have to go through this obstacle course. It is designed to protect youth while respecting parental rights.
