Well the problem wasn't with the package but the history behind it.....The big problem was way back about two years ago, the HK government was putting up a lot of posters saying "we care about what you think, tell us about your opinions about universal suffrage." At that point, people spoke up, and then in August last year Beijing came up with a proposed package.The trouble with the proposed package allowed by Beijing much more restrictive than enough the pro-Beijing in Hong Kong parties wanted. There were some minor concessions that Beijing could have made last August that would have left Beijing firmly in control (namely increasing the size of the nominations committee from 1200 to 1500) but those were out of the question.So at that point, you had the pan-democrats saying "you asked for our opinion, you ignored it, and now that our opinion matters, we are going to say NO."I suspect that if Beijing had from the very beginning said, "this is what we want, take it or leave it" that there would have been less of a bad reaction. The problem was that everyone was making a "big show" of listening when they weren't.Another factor was that the student movement has collapsed. Beijing put out some hints that it might modify the package in October to make it more "student friendly." However, what happened in January was that the student groups had various civil wars and totally self-destructed. This was a problem because without student pressure, the pan-democrats are relatively weak, and without a leadersihip there was no one that Beijing could even negotiate a deal with.Also, I know one pan-democrat legislator, and I understand his point of view. The problem is that even though he is a member of the legislature, no one in the government or Beijing listens to anything that they say, and he has *zero* power. I get the feeling that the pan-democrats don't expect to run Hong Kong right now, they just want someone to start listening to them and not to shut them out completely from any decision making power. The only way that Beijing or the HK government will listen to them is if they can prove that they can say NO and block something that the government wants.Democracy isn't a result, it's a process, and if we reach a point in which the opposition in Hong Kong is at least listened to, I think we would have made progress.

Is Biden’s 1.9 trillion dollar stimulus relief proposal package reasonable or unreasonable in your opinion?
