Upper class does not equal to wealth or riches, contrary to many popular perceptions. As the word goes “money does not buy class”, which is true, especially for old money cliques. I lived in an affluent family, which some of my distant relatives and friends are old riche.Old riche usually made the majority of “upper class”, but not all of them are necessarily upper class. Celebrities, politicians, “socialites” are definitely not upper class, because in many “secretive” rich family gatherings that conspiracy theorists loved to speculate and I happened to attend a couple of times, only a few of them are actually TV presenters, film stars, actors, musicians, or government officials. I remembered seeing musical orchestra leads and a composer there. Ex-vice presidents were there too, but they gave off the “upjumped social climber” aura amongst other guests.“Upper class” folks set examples, role model, and the model lifestyle that the rest of the nations could aspire to be. Definitely not living a notoriously high profile lifestyle like the nation’s top leaders, the media darlings, headline grabbing celebrities.They don’t discuss about power-sharing, increasing wealth, or which next emerging nations should be exploited. These folks actually discuss about inequalities, how social and economic disparity could cause unrest and threaten their lifestyle in “I have to walk through the slums to get into the park!” fashion. The poverty in this town is unbearable! We must do something. But you’ll never see this “invisible hands” because they avoid high profile existence, almost avoiding fame like cancer. Why? Because they are fully aware that wealth attracts jealousy and risking you to become frivilous lawsuit target, extortions, kidnapping, and so on. They also discuss about serious “hobbyist” subjects like classical music, books, history, even down to “commoner subjects” like cars, food, gadgets, or travel.They tend to be old gentlemen whose sons and daughters have left them to become indepent and resorted to adopt orphans to cure their loneliness instead of holding parties after parties in their huge mansion. A disproportionate lot of them happened to be a member of this club: Rotary International - WikipediaThey are definitely NOT Donald Trump. He is just too ostentatious, too high-profile, and a very gaudy taste for things. He is the very model of poor man’s rich person.They don’t drive supercars or supercars. My distant relatives said that “it is very expensive and risky” - for a billionaire that is. The insurance premium is ridiculous and hardly practical. Most of them drives their father’s luxury sedans, which have been carefully maintained by their chauffeurs. A lot of them actually drive themselves. Some don’t even own cars, but horses, so they took taxi or public transport to gatherings. You know, Warren Buffett drive his own pickup and Michael Bloomberg took the subway too.If you would like trivial checklists from my own personal observation, here you go:Be comfortable with who you are. These upper class dudes have no uniform taste in fashion. Some of them simply wear golf tees, “because it is comfortable”. They don’t need to impress the media or public, because they don’t read fashion columns in pop media.None of them wear ostentatious fashion piece like crocodile skin, bling bling jewelry, or real furs. “Expensive to maintain, and lose value easily” says my aunt, who wore adequately tasteful Skecher shoes and pearl earrings, while stepping out from her Audi Q7.Their gadgets are high end, because they don’t want to shop every year when there will be new “techs” released (well, other than the hobbyist). At least, high-end stuffs will retain its relevance 4 years through. Moreover, like my uncle’s golfing friend says, “this has the biggest screen, good for old guys like me, who can’t read small texts and tactfully press miniature on-screen keyboard.”They speak eloquently using normal language instead of “inner circle” hip jargon-laden lingo that separates them from the plebs. No, because they don’t need all that façade nonsense. They are very polite, well-spoken, and use good grammar to show their well educated background.Conservative on the outside, liberal inside. Did I tell you that women hold powerful position in their household? Multiracial couples are pretty common. There are a number of gays and lesbians as well (I have yet to see a transgender). The thing is, you will never know, because they “act normal”. As in, they never make their “individual uniqueness” larger than life. Religion is also strictly deeply personal business for most of them.

In the 1920s, mass-produced rotary mowers came into their own. By that point heavier mowers had existed since the 1830s. [1]It becomes easier to see what all the fuss was about when we realize that prior to this period all lawns had been trimmed down either by scythe or by grazing animals that left behind copious “deposits.” One can infer that it was not just the ability to cheaply cut a lawn in record time that changed, but the ongoing ability to maintain a field free of animal droppings that registered a palpable hit.
