PDF Editor FAQ

Does Bernie Sanders have a significant accomplishment in his 28 years of Congressional service?

!!! New - Edit to address the uselessness of much of the commentary posted in replies to this answer:All right, the thread of replies to this answer is getting ridiculous and pointless with people finding all sorts of problems that I 1) are obsessed over numbers and the minutia of relatively iconsequential differences in the exact stats specified and 2) distract from point I was trying to make by posting the stats in the first place.1) the links are not landing on the pages that their URLs are pointing to, there is nothing I can do about that. Just enter the politicians’ names and activate the filters yourself if you want to check them.2) the stat info that is posted in this answer is what it was when I did the search on those politicians myself and first posted the information here. Those stats, as reported on Congress.gov | Library of Congress have changed (several times over, now) since I posted my answer. Seems the government makes regular updates to their database. Also, I am not responsible for that and it does not make my answer invalid. It just means the government has updated their own database so please quit trying to lodge accusations of misinformation or uncredibility at me/my answer for inconsistancies you may find between this answer and your current search results shown on the government website. The specific numbers in their database are going to be different because of their frequent updates to their records. Let it go.3) focusing on the exact numbers down to a variation of maybe 15% of the number shown (and that’s a very generous estimation of the tolerance we’re looking at here, usually it’s probably closer to only about 6% change over a month or two or three) is counter-productive to the conversation. The stats, regardless of what the exact value of the data points are, all of them (every set of stats for the searches for the people listed, in every point in time) reflect the same over-arching point I was getting at, than Bernie tallies outnumber every one else’s by orders of magnitude. The stats I posted show the same correlation in the spread between the candidates/their tallies in terms of the least to the greatest amount of legislation produced among the politicians concerned. Bernie’s tallies dwarf everyone else’s no matter which way you look at it.4) What these stats tell about what Sanders has done in his time in office leave out more than half of what’s he’s actually done. And the half of it missing is by far the more noteworthy half of ways in which Sanders has had far greater and more impressive of an impact on this country. It is his indiscriminate alarm sounding of government and corporate corruption happening that the citizens of the US deserve to know about and the identifying of the specific members of public office and their corporate crony counterparts that matters most when it comes to “what has he done in his 28 in office” debate. What he has done is fight for the average citizen, call attention to dirty politics, spread awareness of the corruption between the government and corporate moguls, and interrogate them all on the congressional floor, in political hearings, at political protests, legal proceedings, and so many other official public platforms. He is the line of communication between the citizens on the street who demand change and want the government and corporations to be held accountable for their activity and the actual ruling class of our population who have the power to bring about that change. And for those who question that Sanders does any of what I said in item #4 above, here are a handful of examples of the countless times where Bernie Sanders was doing exactly that:And that doesn’t even hint at what he’s done as an advocate/political activist participating in workers movements or strikes and other times he’s helped labor unions and marginalized communities to achieve victories in their persuits for justice!!! End of New Edit======== Original post: =======Seems this meme is very pervasive… I keep finding more places I need to post the following information to in order to debunk the ridiculous “Sanders hasn’t done anything useful across his political career” trope going around. Well in any case, this ought to clear things up a bit:Klobuchar has introduced 2743 bills. 237 passed. 132 became law.https://www.congress.gov/search?searchResultViewType=expanded&q=%7B%22source%22%3A%22legislation%22%2C%22search%22%3A%22+Klobuchar%22%2C%22bill-status%22%3A%5B%22introduced%22%2C%22passed-one%22%2C%22law%22%5D%2C%22type%22%3A%22bills%22%7DLegislative Search Results:[%22introduced%22,%22passed-one%22,%22law%22],%22type%22:%22bills%22}&KWICView=falseWarren has introduced 3184 bills. 562 passed. 275 became law.Harris has introduced 3774 bills. 739 passed. 329 became law.Hillary Clinton has introduced 1957 bills. 180 passed. 75 became law.Sanders has introduced 8178 bills. 882 passed. 444 became law.====== Editing to add ================If you want specifics, here:Bernie Sanders is an accomplished, effective leader (hope you read this and learn something new!)Here’s A LONG List Of Bernie Sanders’ Accomplishments (WITH CITATIONS)A couple things listed on his own campaign website: Legislative LandmarksVeteransLandmark legislation was passed in 2014 to help the Department of Veterans Affairs serve America’s aging population of veterans and to meet the needs of a new generation of men and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. As the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee chairman, Sanders steered the bill through Congress. The legislation (H.R. 3230) passed the Senate 93-3 after passing the House 265-160 and was signed by President Obama on Aug. 7, 2014. The law included $5 billion for the VA to hire more doctors and other health care professionals. Sanders commitment to veterans has a long history. In 1998, he worked with Rep. Chris Shays to pass a bill to care for illnesses afflicting Gulf War veterans.Free Credit ReportsThe House on November 2, 2003, passed legislation (H.R.2622) authored by Sanders (original bill) to provide all Americans with one free credit report per year. The bill became law (Public Law No: 108-159) on Dec. 4, 2003.Dairy FarmsFarmers were being forced off land that had been in their families for generations during the depths of a crisis in the late 1990s, when huge dairy conglomerates drove down prices they paid farmers. The Senate voted 60-37 on Aug. 4, 2009, for a Sanders amendment (S.Amdt. 2276 to S.Amdt. 1908 to H.R. 2997) to an appropriations bill (H.R. 2997) that was signed into law. It provided $350 million to help struggling dairy farmers survive. And below is a shortened version of the list found here:Bernie Sanders' accomplishments - Occasional Planet (Bernie Sanders' accomplishments - Occasional Planet)Co-founded the Congressional Progressive Caucus and chaired the group for its first 8 years. Both the NAACP and the NHLA (National Hispanic Leadership Agenda) have given Sanders 100% voting scores during his tenure in the Senate. Earns a D- from the NRA.1984: Mayor Sanders established the Burlington Community Land Trust, the first municipal housing land-trust in the country for affordable housing. The project becomes a model emulated throughout the world. It later wins an award from Jack Kemp-led HUD.1991: one of a handful in Congress to vote against authorizing US military force in Iraq. “I have a real fear that the region is not going to be more peaceful or more stable after the war,” he said at the time.1992: Congress passes Sanders’ first signed piece of legislation to create the National Program of Cancer Registries. A Reader’s Digest article calls the law “the cancer weapon America needs most.” All 50 states now run registries to help cancer researchers gain important insights.November 1993: Sanders votes against the Clinton-era North American Free Trade Agreement. Returning from a tour of factories in Mexico, Sanders says: “If NAFTA passes, corporate profits will soar because it will be even easier than now for American companies to flee to Mexico and hire workers there for starvation wages.”July 1996: Sanders is one of only 67 (out of 435, 15%) votes against the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, which denied federal benefits to same-sex couples legally married. Sanders urged the Supreme Court to throw out the law, which it did in a landmark 2013 ruling – some 17 years later.July 1999: Standing up against the major pharmaceutical companies, Sanders becomes the first member of Congress to personally take seniors across the border to Canada to buy lower-cost prescription drugs. The congressman continues his bus trips to Canada with a group of breast cancer patients the following April. These brave women are able to purchase their medications in Canada for almost one-tenth the price charged in the States.August 1999: An overflow crowd of Vermonters packs a St. Michael’s College town hall meeting hosted by Sanders to protest an IBM plan to cut older workers’ pensions by as much as 50 percent. CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and The New York Times cover the event. After IBM enacts the plan, Sanders works to reverse the cuts, passing a pair of amendments to prohibit the federal government from acting to overturn a federal district court decision that ruled that IBM’s plan violated pension age discrimination laws. Thanks to Sanders’ efforts, IBM agreed to a $320 million legal settlement with some 130,000 IBM workers and retirees.November 1999: About 10 years before the 2008 Wall Street crash spins the world economy into a massive recession, Sanders votes “no” on a bill to undo decades of financial regulations enacted after the Great Depression. “This legislation,” he predicts at the time, “will lead to fewer banks and financial service providers, increased charges and fees for individual consumers and small businesses, diminished credit for rural America and taxpayer exposure to potential losses should a financial conglomerate fail. It will lead to more mega-mergers, a small number of corporations dominating the financial service industry and further concentration of power in our country.” The House passed the bill 362-57 over Sanders’ objection.October 2001: Sanders votes against the USA Patriot Act. “All of us want to protect the American people from terrorist attacks, but in a way that does not undermine basic freedoms,” Sanders says at the time. He subsequently votes against reauthorizing the law in 2006 and 2011.October 2002: Sanders votes against the Bush-Cheney war in Iraq. He warns at the time that an invasion could “result in anti-Americanism, instability and more terrorism.” Hillary Clinton votes in favor of it.November 2006: Sanders defeats Vermont’s richest man, Rich Tarrant, to be elected to the U.S. Senate. Sanders, running as an Independent, is endorsed by the Vermont Democratic Party and supported by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.December 2007: Sanders’ authored energy efficiency and conservation grant program passes into law. He later secures $3.2 billion in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for the grant program.September 2008: Thanks to Sanders’ efforts, funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program funding doubles, helping millions of low-income Americans heat their homes in winter.February 2009: Sanders works with Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley to pass an amendment to an economic recovery bill preventing Wall Street banks that take taxpayer bailouts from replacing laid-off U.S. workers with exploited and poorly-paid foreign workers.December 2009: Sanders passes language in the Affordable Care Act to allow states to apply for waivers to implement pilot health care systems by 2017. The legislation allows states to adopt more comprehensive systems to cover more people at lower costs.March 2010: President Barack Obama signs into law the Affordable Care Act with a major Sanders provision to expand federally qualified community health centers. Sanders secures $12.5 billion in funding for the program which now serves more than 25 million Americans. Another $1.5 billion from a Sanders provision went to the National Health Service Corps for scholarships and loan repayment for doctors and nurses who practice in under-served communities.July 2010: Sanders works with Republican Congressman Ron Paul in the House to pass a measure as part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform bill to audit the Federal Reserve, revealing how the independent agency gave $16 trillion in near zero-interest loans to big banks and businesses after the 2008 economic collapse.March 2013: Sanders, now chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and backed by seniors, women, veterans, labor unions and disabled Americans, leads a successful effort to stop a “chained-CPI” proposal supported by Congressional Republicans and the Administration to cut Social Security and disabled veterans’ benefits.April 2013: Sanders introduces legislation to break up major Wall Street banks so large that the collapse of one could send the overall economy into a downward spiral.August 2014: A bipartisan $16.5 billion veterans bill written by Sen. Sanders, Sen. John McCain and Rep. Jeff Miller is signed into law by President Barack Obama. The measure includes $5 billion for the VA to hire more doctors and health professionals to meet growing demand for care.January 2015: Sanders takes over as ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, using the platform to fight for his economic agenda for the American middle class.January 2015: Sanders votes against the Keystone XL pipeline, which would allow multinational corporation TransCanada to transport dirty tar sands oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.March 2015: Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) introduced legislation to expand benefits and strengthen the retirement program for generations to come. The Social Security Expansion Act was filed on the same day Sanders and other senators received the petitions signed by 2 million Americans, gathered by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.September 2015: Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.), Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and Rep. Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) today introduced bills to ban private prisons, reinstate the federal parole system and eliminate quotas for the number of immigrants held in detention.January 2016: Sanders Places Hold on FDA Nominee Dr. Robert Califf because of his close ties to the pharmaceutical industry and lack of commitment to lowering drug prices. There is no reason to believe that he would make the FDA work for ordinary Americans, rather than just the CEOs of pharmaceutical companies.A shortened list of accomplishments from:https://pplswar.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/printableleg.pdf104th Congress — 1995-1996• Require offenders who are convicted of fraud and other white collar crime to give appropriate notice to victims and other persons in cases where there are multiple victims eligible to receive restitution. What is an unbiased review of the 5-years of Modi’s government?

Atomic and Space research -SuccessOur country always performs miracles irrespective of who rules at the centre. So performance wise they are as usual at the top, the only difference is there are no scams such as antrix-devas deal. The country has signed deal for building nuclear power plants with Russia, signed deal with Japan. In space research we have accomplished mangalyaan (though it would have happened even otherwise), NISAR deal with NASA, GSAT 14, Development of our own GPS system. ISRO had launched 35 foreign satellites till 2014 , but the count reached 209 by last year. We saw a spike in foreign satellite launches in his period. Definitely his contribution would be considerable as he would have supervise the negotiations in these launches.Failure:The government failed to obtained the membership of Nuclear Suppliers Groupexternal affairs and overseas indian affairs -Rescue operation raahat supervised by external affair minister Retd.Gen. V.K.Singh was a huge success. The ministry created a good raport with indians abroad and people of indian origin. Image of India has scaled peaks and our country has dominated many multilateral meetings and conventions. We are able to isolate pakistan from the international community. We resolved the long pending enclave problem with bangladesh and sealed the porus border, which hepls in curbing infiltration to a great extent.Failures:Kulbhushan Yadav was a partial failure as he is still not deported to India.finance : Economic reforms were continuously taking place. Aadhar linkages helped arrest pilferage of money in various schemes. Financial Inclusion through Jan Dhan Yojana, Income declaration schemes, demonetisation, raids and signing agreements with tax havens such as Saint Kitts and Nevis a two island caribbean country , bahamas, bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Liberia, argentina, morocco, cayman Islands, Isle of man, Leichtenstein and others. Recently announced Modicare is a good initiative. Containing the fiscal deficit and inflation within the accepted level. Demonetisation has helped in more than one ways. It has helped in identifying shell companies, arrested real estate inflation due to black currency, forced the hoarders to deposit the currency and helped the cash strapped banking system with huge influx of currencies which made lending possible for the banks. Recorded huge economic growth in this term. Insolvency and bankruptcy code to provide maximum help to prevent a company from getting liquidated and fast tracking of resolving the bankruptcy problem. ED has attached Vijay Mallya properties worth 8,044 crore as on sept.2016.ED attaches Vijay Mallya’s assets worth Rs6,630 crore .Set to create an online platform to sell stressed asset, thereby faster clean up of balance sheets. Taxation reform by implementation of GST has simplied indirect taxation and removal of various indirect taxes. Also a paper trial helps in identifying the tax evaders. This has helped in bringing more people into the income tax bracket thereby we can see a spike in income tax payers.exchange rate was 45 rupees in 2005, it reached 62 rupees in 2014. 1.7 rupees depriciation per annum. now it is 64 rupees in 4 years. that is 2 rupees in 4 years. 0.5 rupees depriciation per annum. The depreciation rate of rupee compared to dollar shows that rupee fall has been controlled.Failures:The salaried class is at the receiving end as usual and no initiative to protect their interest. badloans are still a mess and more innovative methods are required. Defaulters escaped the trial by flying out of the country.corporate affairs:make in india intiative is a long term goal and is yet to see the results. There is also a surge in start-ups but not upto the mark. Reduction in corporate tax by 5% is a welcoming move.Defense:Carried out surgical strikes in myanmar border and Pakistan-occupied kashmir. Countering China’s string of pearls by establishing naval bases in various countries that are strategically important. Dokhlam standoff is a huge success and the less noticed physical fight between the Chinese and Indian Personnel in Ladakh where Chinese retreated. insurgency, terrorism and law and order in BJP ruled states is brought under control. between 2010–2013, 304 terrorist attacks/annum, 118 terrorists killed in the period. between 2014–2017 258 terrorist attack and 143 terrorists killed. naxal and maoist insurgent groups have shrunk. 1656 attacks between 2011–2013, 1076 attacks in modi’s period. death toll reduced 60%.reduction in NE insurgency.Failures:One of our military bases came under terrorists attack in pathankot. Killing of soldiers continues through unprovoked firing. Attack in Uri, Gurudaspur, pampore, kokhrajhar, baramulla, handwara, nagrota, amarnath yatra.Law and order:UPA regime to its credit has an average of 753 riots per annum with death average 125 people/annum,NDA has an average of 730 riots/annum with death average of 97 people/annum (Source:Thughlak Magazine)Communication, information and broad casting:mobile and internet connections increase at a record pace. 3 times increase in mobile connection and 4 times increase in internet connections compared to the last three years of UPA with first 3 years of NDA. Spike in spectrum revenue through transparent auctioning. Pitching for Fibre optic cables started only after 2014 and BSNL in major cities are still following twin cable and not fibre optic cable. But laying of cables is still a work in progress and not yet achieved.Indian Telegraph right of way rules framed in 2016, Aadhaar based E-KYC, sharing infrastructure among service providers to curb redundancy in towers. relaxing rules by allowing cable Tv operators to act as Internet service providers. Laying submarine fibre optic cables.Railways:Visible change in railways are happening, improvement in services and aethestic appearances are drastic. Rather than announcing new trains in every budget, the railways are now concentrating on more important issue the infrastructure development rather than sticking to budgetary announcements of new trains.Failures:Recent spike in train accidents are major concern, secured travel is the prime service which has taken a hit especially in the backward states in east. Bullet trains are still not kicked off, no physical steps are seen and are still in planning stage.Urban Development:Smart cities are a work in progress and a long term project, hence commenting on the project is inappropriate. It is high time the infrastructure correction is done for major cities. Cities such as chennai and mumbai reeled under floods or suffering under draught. The first thing to be done is reconstructing a proper drainage system and effective water management. Drainage system in these regions are requiring a proper overhaul.Road transport:This is a place where the current government has scored only positives, construction of highways are at a record pace. Checkposts are removed for faster movement of goods with the implementation of GST. The government has given incentives to produce electric vehicles to curb pollution.Shipping:The current government is trying to tap the full potential of water transport as they are cheaper and less polluting. Sagarmala scheme once completed will be providing the necessary boost that is required for shipping industries.Law and Justice:It is a place which has to be given a mixed review, the government is aimed at converting the department into paperless by going completely digital but this is a work in progress and still a long way to go. The growing misunderstanding within the judiciary and in some cases between the judiciary and government is a cause of concern. Speeding up the cases are required, setting up of special courts to trial the representatives will be a good initiative and the work is in progress.Electronics and IT:The goveernment boost to digital economy and e-governance has paved way for Electronics and IT industry to flourish but still the sector is in nascent stage and not firing to it’s potential.Water resources, river development:The government has performed poorly in river development, interlinking of rivers are not yet given the importance it requires. One of the worst performing minister in NDA cabinet. Hence she was changed to drinking water and sanitation.Drinking water and sanitation:This department has scored in swachch bharat mission by building record number of toilets and created awareness about cleanliness. But still miles to go.Minority affairs:Banned triple talaq, ended the Haj subsidy and instead diverting the funds for minority development instead of minority appeasement is a welcome move.Rural development, agriculture and farmer welfare and panchayati raj:The rural development was given a push by introducing online portals for marketing rural goods at a competitive price, National agricultural market is established, e-NAM portal is created for maximizing revenues for the farmers by involving them in e-commerce to create more markets within their reach.Farmers are provided with neem coated Urea to prevent pilferage of urea to chemical industries. They are provided with loans, crop insurance at cheap premiums, promoting organic farming for self sufficiency of farmers. Fishermen issue in TN is still unresolved as it would hamper the ties with Sri Lanka. MGNREGS have been restructured from providing petty jobs it has become a scheme for rural asset creation. The concentration/ special care to the ailing department was not given till the budget 2018. Only the budget 2018 has given some importance to these sectors. There was a flip-flop approach towards this sector through the term. The government is pushing towards the corporate farming which will definitely give a boost to the ailing sector as best agriculture practices will be implemented to improve the profit margin.chemical and fertilisers:neem coated urea helps in arresting pilferage of fertilisers towards chemical industries, organic farming is gaining ground in India and probably the artificial fertilizer industry is going to face a sustained gradual setback in the forth coming years.Mines:Mines and minerals development and regulation act was amended in 2015 to prescribe the procedure of auction for maximizing the revenue from sale of mines, for implementation of sustainable development framework star rating of mines was prescribed. Higher star rating is provided for more sustainable mining practices.Mining surveillance system a satellite based monitoring system is developed to monitor and curb illegal mining activity through automatic remote sensing detection technology, launched in 2017 January has detected 48 unauthorized mines in the initial phase itself. Geological surveys are digitized and available to all. IT enabled services are developed for geological surveys. Bauxite productivity has reached new highs. Mining sector grew a total of 5% in first two years (after which I do not have data)Consumer affairs, food and public distributionWith linking of aadhar and Ration cards, haryana has made it easier for consumers to buy from any nearby ratio shops as card data is centralized and accessed from any ration shop. Upto december 2016, 2.33 crore fake ration cards were identified. government saves 15,000 crore by linking aadhaar and gas connections. JAM trinity has brought in fool proof mechanism to arrest leakages in public distribution system.MSME sectorIt is the favourite sector of BJP and gets a special care whenever they form the government. MUDRA yojana, Start Up India, Skill India, all these aimed at empowering the unorganised sectors.Drawbacks: These initiatives are not enough to generate employment as much as it was projected to happen.women and child development:Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is meant for protection and education of girl children. One stop centre scheme to assist women affected by violence, both in private and public spaces.universal women helpline, inclusion of acid attack as disability in rights of person with disabilities act 2016, Guidelines for matrimonial websites, shelter home for widow at vrindavan in UP. Training for women panchayat heads, village convergence and facilitation services, national policy for women 2016, legislation on trafficking.Pregnant women and lactating mothers are entitled to food security for 300 days.Civil aviationThe sector has been deregulated in 2016 and rules for operating international flights are relaxed. Thereby opening up the sector for more participants and provide competition. Thereby monopoly/domination by select few airlines are removed which will give rise to cheaper transportation charges thereby benefiting customer.Food processingfood processing industry worth has crossed 65,000 crore in nov,2017. 42 food parks have been sanctioned to be established through out the country.labour and employmentIt is a sector which still requires concentration and the employment generation is not as good as Vajpayee’s period. If MSME sector performs well we can expect a huge increase in Job creation, MSME sectors are the largest employment creators. If MUDRA and StartUp India scheme works well, then employment generation would be good.Set backs: The vacancies in government are not filled. In march 2017, the number of police personnel unfilled 5,49,025.5,23,963 vacancies in elementary school teacher under sarva shiksha abhiyaan.2,36,470 vacancies in anganwadi workers and helpers.225,823 vacancies in railway safety and security.Source: quint 23rd september 2017The vacancies could be filled in 3 years is a great set back.Leave out job creation, let the 1,535,281 vacancies be filled.tribal affairsEstablished ashram schools, vocational training institute, hostels, revised scholarships, grants, utilising NGO’s services effectively for betterment of tribals, social justice and empowermentInagurated ambedkar international centre, National Scheduled Caste finance and development corporation to promote handicraft products from these people, workshops are conducted for these craftsmen and ‘expo’ are conducted regularly to market these handicraft products.human resource developmenthttp://mhrd.gov.in/sites/upload_files/mhrd/files/Initiatives_AchievementsMHRD.pdfEnergy and Coal ministryThe government has given a push for renewable energy and addition of solar power is at a record pace. Deficiency in power supplies are a thing of past, more power plants are getting added to meet with the demand, and the situation is very much improved when compared to the period of 2007–2012 when power cuts were stringent even in the top metro cities.heavy industries and public enterprisesRural electrification corporation has doubled it’s profit within 4 years.PGCIL has increased the profit margin from 4209 crore to 7520 crores within 4 years.Power finance corporation saw an increase in profits before a great fall in profits in 2017. from 4419 crores in 2013 it scaled up to 6113 crores in 2016 before it fell to 2126 crores in 2017.SBI registered a constant growth in it’s profit margin and have not even once reduced the margin for past 5 years. These treatments have been consistently neglected in the past. Having a separate ministry has revived hope of reviving the traditional medications. Yoga has been given an international push and now we celebrate the international yoga day. This is the first time the government is concentrating on medical fields other than western medication.textilestextile industry has crossed 40 billion dollars in financial year 2015–2016. Khadi sales increased by 33% in 2016–2017. 100% FDI in textilesPetroleum and natural gasGiving a push to explore more oil and gas fields within the country to reduce the dependency on oil imports have given dividends for the government but the bad part is that the benefits are not pushed towards common people.information and broadcastingThe viewership of Doordarshan and All India Radio listeners have considerably increased due to the effort of Shri Narendra Modi to utilise these organisations to connect to the masses. These organisations were long neglected and the viewership and listeners fell drastically with the advent of private channel boom. It has been resurrected through programs such as Mann Ki Baat.
