In the Canadian film industry, our union agreements specify that our monthly health plan fee is covered by the producers (if a person works over 100hrs/month).Further to that, all employees of a film production are covered by the production's insurance. Here in British Columbia, WorkSafeBC is the workplace injury insurer. The production pays the monthly premium and then WorkSafe pays any medical bills if a stunt performer is injured. This is the same for any employee of a film production, whether they're an employee or contracting their work to the production through their loan-out company.Example: when I worked in the film industry, I “loaned" my company to the production. Because my company provided a service, I was exempt from paying my own WorkSafeBC premiums, so the production company paid them for me every month. If I was injured while performing my job duties, all my medical bills would be covered by WorkSafeBC whose monthly premiums were paid by the film production. This would be the same for any position/job title, be it stunt person, grips, electrics, transport, office staff or any of the other hundreds of positions in a film production.
