If you are thinking about attending, here is what I would say: ITP can be the richest and most rewarding experience as a general technologist found anywhere on planet earth. Echoing what others have said, the curriculum is purposely broad as hell - video, mechanics, animation, narratives, soundscaping, telephony, basically ANY interface you can dream of, you can prototype and launch into the world at ITP. It is an amazing community of earnest tinkerers, hackers, coders, artists, dancers, thinkers, and performers of all stripes. To blow your mind and show you what is possible with technology, there really is no rival in my opinion. Added to the fact that you own the rights to your work (unlike MIT) and do not have to contend with corporate influence in the design cycle (there are no corporate partnerships that guide research foci at ITP), it truly is a place where ideas are allowed to roam free.All of that said - if you are not a decent coder already, or have a hard time wrapping your head around coding as a medium do NOT attend until you have one solid year under your belt of any web-based coding language (CSS/HTML, python, PHP, Ruby, Javascript, whatever). You want to spend your time tinkering and prototyping, and not banging your head against the wall with syntax. It is my one regret - I think I could have gotten more out of the program had I been more versed in coding before attending. It was very difficult for me to pick up.Also, and along the same lines - have your finances in order. Having to work a full time job on top of school was very difficult for me, and I almost had to quit the program because of it. You want to be able to dedicate as much time as possible to the program, not just working on your stuff at home, but being on the floor in between classes. The real value of the program happens between the classes, where you get to meet and be among people grappling with amazing conceptual and technical questions. I had less time than I wanted to be able to in order to really absorb more. But the friends I made have changed my life, and I seriously would not have graduated the program had it not been for their help. Both technically and from a moral support perspective. It’s an intense two years, make no mistake. Don’t let the narrative of ITP being unfocused fool you into thinking it isn’t rigorous. If you know how to extract the most out of your surroundings, ITP can absolutely change your life. (And by the same token - their orientations and marketing materials claim you don’t need any technical/coding ability. While this might be *technically* true, it does penalize those of us who aren’t the fastest learners when it comes to coding, you can fall behind and then spend plenty of time trying to catch up.)Long story short - if you are prepared for it and can make the most out of it, it is a fantastic learning environment, second to none. But you have to be able to leverage your time wisely, to get the most out of your instructors and your peers. Have a technical foundation to build upon, and save up the money to be able to be on site as often as possible. If you do those two things, you will find your time and money very well spent.Go to a few shows, and ask the presenters what they wished they had learned before the program started. Bring a notebook, record what they say, and make ITP a 3 year program. The first a self study foundation based upon your interests and how others wished they had prepared better, the other two using the community as a lever to propel you into the skill and mind space that you want to be in. I truly wish I had the benefit of this advice before I attended, but even thought it was an extremely stressful period in my life, I don’t regret attending.

Well the best one i read about is MIT Media Labs.Then one can always look forward to other colleges such as the New Media division of GaTech. UCSB's media Lab.
