US and UK have a concept called the Preparatory school and many other countries have the Cram school that is used to prepare students to gain admission to universities. They are the equivalents of the coaching classes in India. You can also find a variety of SAT classes and those for CFA exams etc. Remember, some of the biggest coaching class companies, such as Kaplan and Princeton Review, are based in the US.There are a few differences though:Admissions in US and elsewhere are not solely based on test scores/marks alone. They have a fairly complex system of evaluating by range of things [including the status of your parents and the leadership experience you had before] that might not work in India due to favoritism. Thus, coaching classes don't have as much power as they do in India.Admissions in the US and other developed countries are not life and death. If you get through a top university, you will start with $60-70k salaries and if you don't probably you will get $30k even with high school diploma. In India, the difference between the two outcomes is 20-30x, making the admissions highly sought.

I have taken the CFA level 1 exam. Here is the 3 tips I can share about the preparation.OWN EXPERIENCE!!!CFA is hard, but not that hard if you are a student of Econ. I will explain it later.Keep studying everydayCFA is not that hard if you are a student of econ. CFA exam is opened to those who are in the final year of their university or college study. Most of the contents I am sure you have been studying for, but not that deep enough. Once you registered for the exam, you will get ebooks and an access key to the CFA study ecosystem where you can meet friends who taking the same exam. Also the ecosystem provides us the contents online with example questions after each subtopics and exam related games. The best about the ecosystem is it tells you how many days left until the exam!As I shared above, the contents are a little bit deeper than most of the universities and colleges contents, you need to take time for reading and find out the areas you do not know that well, in my case, I studied 4 hours a day for 300days. Believe me, it is not enough when it got closer to the big day.Start your preparation from doing the mock testStarting with mock test will let you know what kind of questions will be on the test and which part of the topics you might need to work harder. I did not prepare this way, so I spent more than a month in reading the first volume of CFA textbook which talks about the CFA regulations. Honestly, I should just do the mock test first because regulations are just asking us for being a morally correct person in different situations and the related questions are about words game. Very tricky in the words used. You will get what I mean if you do the mock test.Doing a mock test also can test out your ability and allow you to mark your weakness. The ecosystem will mark your paper when you submitted the mock test and it provides the correct answer when you review your answers. I suggest you to study for the parts you did bad before reading A-Z.Stimulate the exam dayHope you know that you will be sitting in the exam hall for a total of 6 hours from 9am to 5pm, an hour break inbetween. The exam asks the candidates to be in the hall and wait 30mins before the exam starts, so the real time you will start sitting there doing nothing is 8.30am or your candidacy will be cancelled. 12noon to 1pm is the break and 2pm to 5pm is the 2nd session. Same thing here that you need to be ready by 1.30pm.As the rules are set this way, I believe most of the people will be hard to focus for 6 hours, so a stimulation is important. You can train yourself to sit 30mins doing nothing and start doing the mock test at 9am, trying to stay 3 hours. I think most of you might finish your test in 2 hours but early leaving is not allowed there. I suggest you to wake up early everyday to make you body adapt to the high pressure studying until the big day.These are all my sharing. Hope it will help you. CFA is a certification. According to Efficient Learning to get a CFA, “Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or have equivalent education or work experience. Pass Level I of the CFA exam or pass the self-administered Standards of Practice Examination. Have 48 months of acceptable professional work experience in investment decision making.” (How to Become a Chartered Financial Analyst® - Wiley CFA Exam Review). As long as the economics and/or mathematics degrees from the university that you are attending are accredited programs then you are good to go.Hope this helps.
