PDF Editor FAQ
After finishing BUDS and becoming an official Navy SEAL, what is the regular weekly physical training that the US Navy SEALs go through each week?
This is a solid question -the majority of information out there focuses on what it "takes physically" to become a SEAL instead of what training occurs "once you are a SEAL". I will keep this short and sweet. After BUDS you go to Jump School, FreeFall, and then show up to your team, check in -then get slammed straight into advanced SEAL training (in my day it was called STT or SEAL Tactical Training). Here a future SEAL spends up to 9 Months going thru advanced training in everything. He passes -he becomes a full-fledged SEAL and gets assigned to a Platoon within the Team. Here the physical training is varied, unique and both group & individual-oriented. You have different PT evolutions set up each day -sprinkled with individual PT as well. For example: on a Monday you may do a Run-Swim-Run (3 mile run, 2 mile ocean swim, 3 mile run) -followed by Calisthenics (pushups, pullups, dips, ABs)...Tuesday might be Individual lifting, running, swimming. Wednesday obstacle course, shooting, and 5 mile run. Thursday might be long run and swim-shoot-run. Friday's can be "monster mashes" -where you do shooting, running, swimming, obstacle course, timed shooting stations -more of a timed competition.Keep in mind that during the day after morning PT everyone is also doing training as a group in some form or another for your job (CQB, Diving, Shooting, Skydiving, Night Ops, OTB, MOUT or whatever the platoon has scheduled that week). At Development Group (6) our daily training was just as varied, a little more individual focused - but had more mental challenges sprinkled in (climbing wall/ shoot-no/shoot scenarios, skydive -swim-run-shoot -long run body armor, weapons, shooting range). Once deployed -depending upon the location, we would do Calisthenics, Jungle Run, Snow Run, Desert Run, etc or whatever we can do within the confines of the environment. Sometimes its hotel-room PT (pushups, situps, chair dips, etc). As you get older, mature and smarter about injuries and your body -more individualized training is sprinkled in with group training. The Teams have some of the most progressive nutrition, medical, sports doctors, athletic trainers and physical therapists in the world. Great resources for knowledge, recovery and smart training.
