PDF Editor FAQ

Is AMIE engineering tough to pass?

Thanks for A2A. Sorry for a long long answer.I have cleared AMIE in Winter 2015 exams.I have registered it long before in 2009.This sentence sometime seems to someone that AMIE is tough course as a person who scored 82% in diploma took 6 years to complete it.BUT actual facts are much different. Here is my AMIE JOURNEY…You decide after reading this…In 2009 summer exam I have given my first trial without any good preparation. I have just gone through study material provided by IEI that too in 2 weak time while getting a free time working as a site engineer in a MNC having no regular work timing (almost 7.30am to 8am, this is min). The exam was such that you will have to write 2 exam in a day.The result was obviously failure in 3 subject but I have cleared environment paper as there you can apply much common knowledge. Then I again decided to register for winter 2009 exam but I got a job offer from Oman. So I didn't registered. The offer was also extended due to some technicalities there. Then I registered for summer 2010 exam, I have got the joining letter from the same company. So this time also didn' t give a chance.Again in Winter 2010 I applied for exam after getting permission from my boss with exam centre at ABUDHABI. This time villain was concreting a roof slab. So again didn't give attempt. Then I decided, I have to complete AMIE. So I opted to resign from Oman company after my visa period of 2 years.I came back to my hometown and started a small civil engineering consultancy and contract firm with my 2 friends. Along with that I have joined a coaching centre named MIDET COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY. The classes were scheduled on all holidays. They were providing coaching in 2 subjects for 6 months. Classes were good and was supplemented with some good class notes. I never studied apart from this till last weak from exam and in that weak might have studied 2-3 hrs a day. I attended winter 2012 exams in subjects:-Design and Computer. I cleared both exam with C grade in Design and B grade in Computer (this is result of coaching as computer most difficult subject for me even in diploma this gave me my lowest mark 40/100).In summer 2013 I have cleared Section A. A most good thing that I does was to continue with section B coaching rather waiting for results.Section B civil engineering coaching in the institute was for some subjects only. For winter 2013 coaching was for 1.Water resourse management, 2. Soil mechanics. Along with this I have attend survey in exam by self preparation. I took only 2 weak time to revise all the 2 subject and to prepare a new subject. Of this I have also prepared a another small note of soil which contains only equations and that was over 200.This was meant for quick revision. I have less confident of water resource management as I lack understanding of subject as well as a kind of hate. The result was I passed in soil and survey. For summer 2014 coaching was mainly focused on options ie 1.Advance structural analysis 2.Design of steel structure. I along with these 2 subjects attended Engineering Management and Construction materials. I have prepared for both these subjects just a day before exams respectively. But due to some work load I was unable to revise the subject I received coaching. The result was I failed in what I got coaching and passed in what I studied just for 3-4 hrs. Thanks for practical experiences what I have earned. The thing I understand from failure was I should practice very much for subjects which are problem solving type. Because I could only attend for around 60 marks in both subjects during summer 2014.For winter 2014 coaching was for 1.RCC design 2.Analysis and Design. I added both the subjects which I failed in summer 2014. From this stage my focus has been changed from just passing the exam to passing with good marks. So I started doing some problems given as home work which earlier I never did as it was not compulsory. And I have practiced many problems in all 4 subjects. I started my revision 1.5 month before. The result was best in whole AMIE journey got my first H grade in Analysis and Design of structure. And also a A grade in RCC and remaining with C grades. And I got eligible for doing project as well as laboratory work which was to be done after summer 2015 exam.So in summer 2015 I have only one paper which I got a backlog while I tried the first attempt in section B ie. Water resource management. I was confident and devoted much time to studies. I have started my studies a month before a month itself and completed almost entire syllabus. After the exams laboratory work was started and got a group of 5 in college allocated. A good active group though every group will have a inactive one included. We completed all practical in just 3 days and submitted our records in the 5th day. Again thanks to good cooperative member as well all were well experienced. Then about project I have opted for design and estimation of a building. For which I devoted almost full potential for 2 days and been completed. The results of summer 2015 has came in September 2015 and was a shock to me. I failed in water resource management again even after Making a good preparation. But I managed to get a H and A grade in laboratory work and project work respectively. As I was much shocked and was sure I have done very well with attending more than 90% in the exam I have applied for Recounting (We don't have Revaluation). The most difficult thing in this is that you have to physically present at IEI Hq at Kolkata on provided date and time. As I was from kerala it's much long for me. Though I managed to catch the flight to and fro. But it was again a shock by seeing my answer paper many answers were provided with zero marks. I was surprised to see it as of my knowledge and of reference book it was Wright. Then hardly recognised the truth which was given in front of every question paper of AMIE ie. Unwanted lengthy answers will end up in loss of marks. Then I have to attend the same subject for third time in Winter 2015. This time also I given a attempt of almost all question but avoiding unwanted length. That worked out my final subject was cleared with a Grade of H.

Psychology of Everyday Life: What are some of the greatest examples of absence of mind?

This recently happened with me during my Semester End Engg Physics exam. I had been up studying until 4:30 AM in the morning for my exam which would start at 9:30 AM. Our teacher had already told us all about the question paper format beforehand and my roommate even managed to get a set of question paper from another exam slot.Having looked at that paper and done a fairly good job of covering the syllabus at least once over the course of sessionals and my one-day preparation for the finals (its Engineering... admit it---no one studies anything before the last day) I was fairly confident of scoring well. Fast forward to the time I got the question paper in my hands. Easy-peasy. I could answer all questions if I wanted to. Section A had the short answer questions while Section B had long answer questions. I started the paper, got stuck on a derivation in Section A because I forgot the Schrodinger's time independent equation from which the derivation actually began. Then I realized the derivation of the Schrodinger's time independent and dependent equation was asked in Section B. Feeling relieved over not having to attempt another question I was not so confident about, I left some space to attempt this derivation later and proceeded to complete Section B. There I got stuck on the derivation for Schrodinger's time dependent equation. After some time, I did manage to complete it and got my required equation. After doing so, I came back to Section A and completed the derivation. Since I had some time and some extra space left, I decided to do an extra question in Section A since I wasn't very confident of scoring well in one of the questions I had attempted. I did the extra question and then checked the paper once. Feeling great about myself I handed in the answer sheet as the bell rang and found my friends discussing the paper on the way to the cafeteria. I happily told anyone who listened that I managed to do an extra question. None of them did and some of them had a lousy 3 hours. As we started eating we started discussing which questions each of us did not attempt in the paper. When I listed out the questions I did not attempt, my friend asked me, "Hey, how come you left 3 questions in Section A? We were supposed to do 8 out of 10 and so you can only leave 2." And then he added, "But you did an extra question so you would only leave 1 right?"My pulse rate shot up like a volcano. I immediately reached for the question paper and read the instructions clearly (for the first time apparently).**"Attempt any 'eight' questions in Section A."****"Attempt any 'six' questions in Section B."**My heart sank. In my slightly sleep-deprived state, I had thought that I only needed to do 6 in Section A in place of of 6 in Section B.. Instead of attempting an extra question, I did one less. So in essence, I only attempted 95 marks in a paper of 100 where I could (if time allowed) attempt the whole 130 marks. At the same time, I felt really happy that I decided on doing an extra question. At that moment I understood what they say about mixed feelings. I kind of oscillated between the two realizations, while my friends had a nice laugh about it and then told me not to worry since we have a relative grading system. If I attempted the remaining 95 marks properly, I would get a good grade since a lot of people had a lousy paper.Since I couldn't do anything by then anyway, I decided to just focus on eating lunch and then go and start trying to prepare for the next exam to be held 3 days later. Moreover, I decided not to tell any of this to my parents. I would, of course, tell them that I could only attempt 95 marks, but not the spectacularly stupid way I managed to throw my 5 marks in the garbage bin. I just told them I ran out of time.I think I probably have a thing for screwing up Physics. I distinctly remember how I reached the exam center 20 minutes late for the second sessionals after pulling an all-nighter for an open book test and being chased by a dog... but that's a story for another day.Until then... Cheers!(And enjoy your mindfulness while you can. Because you never know...)
