What does PPE stand for in handling computer harzards?

I’m going to throw out a little different interpretation - which is, granted, much more Quora-centric than the excellent examples offered by Franklin Veaux. When I saw this question, my first thought was:This is a (one-eyed, one-horned, flying) Purple People Eater. It used to be the Quora profile pic of the one and only Melissa Hoy.Hence, if you see PPE used in comments in certain Quora circles, you can infer that it is referring to Melissa.BONUS MATERIAL:Here is the song by Sheb Woodley that made the Purple People Eater an American icon in 1958. It was a #1 hit for 6 weeks.

What are some of the best moments of humanity?

Dr. Zahid Abdul Majeed, a doctor at AIIMS Trauma Center, is the man in this picture. He was quarantined after getting infected by COVID-19.The reason he got infected by COVID-19 is, he removed his PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kit to put a ventilator on an extremely critical COVID-19 patient to prevent a cardiac arrest. Dr. Zahid had to remove his PPE (goggles and face-shield) to re-intubate the patient on the way to the hospital’s trauma center in an ambulance. When the transfer was happening, he realized that the patient’s tube was mal-positioned and that without immediate intervention, the patient would go into cardiac arrest. In a dim-lit ambulance, working with PPE wasn’t a viable option for him so he quickly removed the face-shield and goggles to perform the procedure. He immediately reported the breach in PPE and officials advised him to proceed to quarantine. After getting the news, his father from Kashmir told him over the phone, "Zahid if you succumb to Corona, we will not mourn you. Samjhoonga ki Mera beta ek mareez ki Jaan bachaate hue shaheed ho Gaya (If you will die from COVID-19, I would not grieve as my son has saved the life of a patient and died as a martyr)".Zahid replied "Abba aaj mere mann se aapne ek bojh utaar Diiya (Dad, you lifted the weight from my heart. )".Let's salute their sense of humanity. We have shared a lot of hate over internet, let's share such story full of humanity and love.Edits : Dr. Zahid Majeed is out of the danger now. He has resumed his duties as well.

Apart from public negligence, what kind of problems are Indian doctors facing in our fight against COVID-19?

Not a doctor, but continuously talking to doctors. Here are some of the things. We have very few doctors and even fewer of them in public healthcare. The private hospitals are not yet fully put in service for COVID. Many of them have to be re-trained in techniques like intubation as they have become specialists. They don’t have proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). They cannot be going around in home made plastic sheets. They need triple layered gowns and doubled layering of shoes apart from strong protection for face. There is a huge equipment shortage — not just of ventilators. You cannot keep running a healthcare system with Jugaad. There is no hazard pay for them to work in these risky conditions. They have to be compensated more if we expect them to work in dangerous situations. There are no additional social support for doctors, especially those working in private hospitals. If we expect them to be not going home during the crisis, we need to provide them child care and other essentials at home.We have about 70,000 ICU beds and that includes private hospitals and small nursing rooms. That is too few if the disease spread goes bigger. The cases are doubling every 5 days and at that rate in a month we will have 100,000 cases in India. We will be running short of beds at that point. We have only 40 deaths as of writing this, but hundreds more will die. Each death produces a big anger from relatives and historically angry families have taken their anger with the doctors. We have to have police outside the ICUs stationed always as we can expect people to die regularly in each ICU if the disease is not contained soon.
