I didn’t witness this personally but a video of it made the news in my country, and I saw the video, which is harrowing. It was at the reception (after the ceremony), and everyone was in the middle of the ballroom, dancing up a storm, when suddenly . . . . the floor gave way, and most of the wedding party and guests fell through two floors. 23 people died, including relatives of the bride and groom, and hundreds were injured, including the bride herself. It turns out that the dumb-ass owners of the catering hall had decided that things would look nicer without the unsightly support beams holding up the floor. This is in addition to the fact that the original construction materials were anyway unsafe and had, during the construction of this building, been banned. It was all so horrible. The engineer of the construction material was indicted for manslaughter, and the owners were convicted of criminal negligence. Years later, when I moved here, I was talking with my local grocer, who had become a friend, and he told me that his mother was one of the guests who had died. I visited the India Pakistan border near Chandigarh to watch the parade at closing of the day, where both armies put up a remarkable show.AS you approach the site you will see dozens of trucks parked on both sides of the streets, waiting to cross over to Pakistan. They carry consumer items and in return Pakistan sends back cement and construction materials. THere is a limit of 50 trucks or so each day, that’s why they wait! Let there be peace and more trades.
