And none are perfect.So it kind of depends on what you mean by whether something “works” or not.For example, look at the graph below:See that small dip?When China intervened in the Korean war, the US laid down a military siege, cutting off essential supplies, with the aim of compelling surrender.That, combined with a series of natural disasters like adverse weather patterns, including droughts and floods, and several planning errors, stupid policies like killing sparrows in the Four Pests Campaign, led to the small dip you can see in the Chinese population.This is usually taken as proof that socialism just doesn’t work, and never can.Here we see the population of Ireland, where natural disasters like the potato blight was compounded by stupid policies, like exporting all the rest of the food in the name of free trade and profits.Charles Trevelyan, who was in charge of the administration of government relief, limited the Government's food aid programme because of a firm belief in laissez-faire.Yet the common idea is that laissez-faire capitalism works great.Right now, there are homeless people, sleeping under the rain on cardboard boxes, freezing to death. And there are even more empty houses than there are homeless people.So the real question should not be whether a certain system kind of works, or not.The question should be: What works best? And for whom? And at doing what exactly?Does a system “work” when people can be provided with decent living conditions?Or does a system “work” when some can get incredibly wealthy, and live in luxury, at the expense of everyone else?

The signs a little vague though. We’re sat having a drink. I say I’m gonna get some chicken wings. She’s a vegetarian, they sell cauliflower wings, but we don’t know if they’re in the Wednesday night deal.She says she’s gonna ask if the cauliflower wings are included. Asks me if I want some wings ordering, and do I just want the standard wings.“Can you just ask if the buffalo wings are in the deal too?” I ask“Course I can”Just as she gets up I add“Oh love, can you just find out if the buffalo wings come from real buffalo?”“No worries” she saysI take a sip of my beer and move a little to get a better view of where she is at the bar.A minute later she turns wide eyed, and a face like thunder“Tom, you knobhead!” She screams across the room to me“Don’t swear love. Before I take you through the steps for e-governance initiated by the Modi Government, I would like to list the magnitude of work done to put things into perspective.The above picture is that of Forrest Gump from the iconic movie, Forrest Gump. In the movie, if we analyse the total distance ran by Gump, it would be around 15,248 Miles, i.e. crossing the USA 5 times. If we convert 15,248 Miles into metric system, we get that Forrest ran 24,539 Kilometers.Compare this with the total distance of optical fiber laid by the Modi Government under the National e-Governance plan, 1,25,642 Kilometers which is equivalent to crossing the United States 25 times. This is the amount of work that has been done with relation to bringing the Gram Panchayats of India onto the digital map of India.This is the map of Europe as we know it before the Brexit. The total population of Europe is 743 Million i.e. 0.7431 Billion, Compare this with the number of Government documents that have been linked to the Digital Locker program, 1.7 Billion. Under the Modi Government, the number of documents uploaded is more than 2 times that of Europe or nearly the combined population of Europe and Africa.This is Supernus Pharma, world’s most rapidly growing company according to growth rate, i.e. 265% over 3 years. Compare this with the growth rate in the number of digital payments, 300% over the period of less than a year, (BTW a 20% growth is seen as satisfactory for a company to list itself for an IPO offering). India is growing faster than the best in many parameters. It’s literally becoming a world leader in digital growth.The number of steps that have been shown above is the result of the National e-Governance plan. The National e-governance plan was an initiative of Government of India to make all government services available to the citizens of India via electronic media.On 18 May 2016 the department of electronics and IT and department of Administrative Reforms and Public grievances formulated the NeGP. It consists of 27 “Mission Mode” projects and 8 components. The major component of which is the e-kranti program which has the following components that have been initiated:1. MOOCs – develop pilot Massive Online Open Courses2. Technology for Health – e-Healthcare • Online medical consultation • Online medical records • Online medicine supply • Pan-India exchange for patient information • Pilots – 2015; Full coverage in 3 years3. National GIS Mission Mode Project4. Real time price information • Online ordering of inputs • Online cash, loan, relief payment with mobile banking5. Mobile Banking • Micro-ATM program • CSCs/ Post OfficesThe GST Network is also part of e-governance. It is in charge of the technological infrastructure for the GST regime.
