PDF Editor FAQ
What's Marc Bodnick's typical day like?
My days vary. Here's what's consistent:Mondays I'm always in. I've got several regular meetings scheduled for Monday.I travel 2 or 3x per month. The trips are usually 1-day trips. So on those weeks, I'm in the office 4 days or 3 1/2 days (if the trip is to the East Coast). When I'm not traveling, I get in at around 8:30am and leave around 5:30pm. Then I'm often back at around 8:30pm and hang out late.I usually do a meeting with a non-Quora visitor once or twice per day.Tuesdays and Wednesdays are my favorite days, because they are pretty unstructured and I get a lot of work done.I usually eat lunch out with someone 2-3x per week.I'm on the site a lot during the day -- usually 3 or 4 hours per day.Every Friday I have a family dinner at 5:30pm that my wife (Michelle Sandberg) is militant about me attending. So, sadly, I miss the Friday Quora box wine happy hour.
What was your NEET preparation story?
I was in class 8th when I decided to become a doctor.I joined Aakash Institute in class 9th. I had my first encounter with All India Test series then.In class 10, my physics teacher guided me personally and believed that I had the potential to do something big in future. Under his guidance, I qualified NTSE Stage 1 and Stage 2.I had started reading class 11th Biology NCERT textbook in my class 10th. It did help me a lot.I did appear for ANTHE and secured AIR 2.Class 11 was the toughest session of my school life. So much to do within limited time period.Class 11 taught me how to manage time and how to prioritize. It taught me to be selfish at times. It taught me the importance of sacrifices.I had just one friend in that entire session. From missing friend's birthday party to school trips, missing school assemblies and family function, sometimes I felt I missed many occasions. From scratching my head in the physics period to answering quickly in Chemistry classes, class 11th ended.Class 12: the juggling period. Why?Revising class 11 syllabus, completing class 12 syllabus and then revising it again for boards, I did felt time running very fast.I had my coaching in weekdays. I didn't had much time after my classes. So I started sleeping late. Before this, I always slept for perfect 7–8 hours. Also since I had my coaching classes in weekdays, I hardly got any time to eat my lunch. A bite or two and then rush to catch the cab. From reading books in the bus to skipping lunch and solving numericals in library and sleeping just 2 hours during the board examinations day, I remember them. You know how much important Durga Puja is for us? I haven't celebrated it for past 3 years. From securing under 200 rank in almost all the AIATS to securing 93.4% in boards, I have struggled a lot.The struggle I faced, I efforts I made can't be expressed in words but emotions. Emotions that overflowed within me when results were declared.I did made my teachers and parents proud.I am happy.Though I know the answer is not in proper English, full of phrases, things presented like a jigsaw puzzle, but to be honest, this answer couldn't be written in words. I felt so nostalgic while writing this answer!Bless me more for the upcoming unpredictable future!
With schools closed, do you set up homeschool or let them have this time off?
I’m answering this from the perspective of both a teacher AND a parent with two school-aged children in the home.First of all, depending on where you are, these may not be days off. They may be “e-learning days.” That’s what we have where I work. I have to put work online for my students, and they have to do it daily. They have to complete work for at least four subjects each day. This way, we won’t have to make up these days later in the year. Before you comment on it… all of my students have internet access at home. That’s already been considered.I use Google Classroom on a regular basis for my class anyway, so the transition to online learning wasn’t really a transition for me at all. I was going to put most of this online anyway. I’ve even decided to use this opportunity to begin an online book club for my students who are interested in joining it for the duration of these e-learning days.During the e-learning days, teachers are expected to post their assignments online by 8am every morning, and then be available to answer questions via email during normal school hours.During that “making myself available” time, I’m going to be basically homeschooling my own children. They have assignments from school, and I am supplementing them with additional work.Children thrive with schedules, so we have a daily schedule already in place. The only screen time they will get during normal school hours will be while I make their lunches and then they eat them… 30 minutes, max. Other than that, it’s 30 minutes of school work, 30 minutes of crafts or games or LEGO time or walking the dog or outdoor time or board games or something else, then 30 minutes of school work, then something else, etc… Basically alternating 30 minutes of learning with 30 minutes of creativity or activity.I plan on taking them on a “field trip” to go fishing once or twice, too.I’m actually really looking forward to this.
