Here is a fine example of how Adolf Hitler treated the Polish children.The children's concentration camp was established by Hitler's Schutzstaffel (SS) in the city of Lodz, Poland, on the orders of SS chief Heinrich Himler.Hidden inside the city's Jewish ghetto on Przemysłowa Street, it was the only camp to be established by the Nazis specifically for children in occupied Europe; it opened on December 11, 1942.As many as 20,000 Polish children aged between two and 16 years old faced untold horrors inside as they were imprisoned in the camp's horrendous conditions where they were beaten, tortured and starved.The camp soon became known as 'Little Auschwitz' because of its high death rate and the violence metred out by SS thugs in charge.The children were isolated from the main ghetto which housed adults by a high wooden fence constructed by Jewish prisoners.Prisoner testimonies tell of constant, unrelenting hunger.For breakfast children would be given just one slice of bread and half a litre of black coffee.This would be the only food they had to sustain themselves all day while they working gruelling manual labour jobs under the watchful eye of camp guards.Children were starved of lunch and given just a litre of turnip or potato soup with beet leaves or cabbage for dinner. They were very occasionally given a spoonful of marmalade, according to The First News.Children were forced to sleep in camp uniforms on bare planks, which rotted when they wet themselves in fear of camp brutality.They were made to wash outside, usually without soap, in freezing conditions under a pump or in a basin. Until spring 1944 there was no active bath or room to steam clothes meaning camp lice were commonplace — though being found to have them was punishable by flogging or starvation.Many of the children died of starvation and disease or from vicious beatings and floggings at the hands of SS guards. The camp's filthy conditions saw a typhus epidemic in late 1942 and early 1943 which claimed the lives of many children.Those who remained alive were subjected to forced labour morning to night and dehumanising punishment by sadistic German guards. Boys straightened needles and made straw shoes, wicker baskets, gas mask belts and leather parts of backpacks. Girls worked in the camp laundry, kitchen, tailor's workshop and the garden.It is believed that as many as 300 children were murdered or died within the camp walls though the exact number if unknown. Vital documents were destroyed by Germans before fleeing the advancing Red Army on January 18, 1945.One of the camp's most notorious guards was the sadist Edward August.Camp survivor Jozef Witkowski recalled: “He was constantly drunk. He was omnipresent. He took pleasure in subjecting prisoners to the most imaginative torture.”“He beat and kicked them in the most sensitive places, he buried them in boxes of sand, dunked them in a barrel of water, hung them by the legs on a chain and lowered their heads into a tank with used car lubricants, he cut their genitals with a penknife, beat their heels and extinguished cigarettes on prisoners’ chests”.Sydonia Bayer was the Nazi thug in charge of the girls’ section of the camp and was nicknamed “Frau Doctor” by the children.The former saleswoman had a basic understanding of first aid and was put in charge of blocks where severely ill children were taken.Jozef recalled: “She liked to drag sick children into the snow and pour cold water on them. She ordered them to be whipped, beaten, kicked, deprived of meals.“As a form of repression for children who wet their beds, she organised a special penal ‘block for children unwittingly urinating’.”Survivor Maria Jaworska recalled how a 10-year-old girl who had wet her bed died a few days after being savagely beaten by Bayer.Camp records show that Bayer recorded tuberculosis as the cause of the girl’s death.Children were also subjected to horrendous experiments as guards infected them with various diseases to test treatment methods.While many of the camp’s guards avoided justice, Bayer and August were arrested after the war and executed for crimes committed against children at the camp.

The system of diagnosis that I use is based on the object relations approach of James F. Masterson. In that system, BPD, NPD, and SPD are totally independent and not overlapping diagnoses. Unlike the system described in the DSM5 diagnostic manual, these three disorders of the self (as Masterson termed them) are very distinct and would not be “co-morbid.”3 Buildings with a Common BasementRalph Klein, the former Director of Training at The Masterson Institute, described it this way:“Imagine three tall separate buildings with a common basement connecting them. There is the Borderline building, the Narcissist building and the Schizoid building. The higher floors are occupied by higher functioning individuals with these diagnoses.”Klein went on to say that everyone who was able to work out a stable and predictable “deal” with their parents got to live in one of the individual buildings.The Basic Borderline Deal: I will never become a separate adult and leave you. I will be compliant and stay childlike and in return you will love me and not abandon me.The Basic Narcissist Deal: I will enhance your self-esteem through my achievements. If you want me to, I will be your admiring audience. In return you will support my self-esteem and not devalue me.The Basic Schizoid Deal: I will let you use me as a tool. I will accept that I can expect no support or protection from you. In return, you will not expel me from the family.As you can see, the “Schizoid Deal” has the least benefits.However, as bad as the above “deals” are, at least the child grows up in a fairly consistent environment and knows what to expect in life.The Basement People: These are the children who grow up in such chaotic environments that no clear deal is possible. For example, think of the children of drug addicts and prostitutes who are always moving around from place to place, or children who grow up in multiple foster homes.Klein pictured them as running back and forth in the common basement under the three buildings. They tend to display a changing mix of Borderline, Narcissistic, or Schizoid traits. I have however this far not configured my laptop for use with that printer quite simply because I’ve not had need to actually print anything yet.I can send money to anyone living in Norway who are in my address-book instantly and at zero cost.Last month, 58% of all new cars sold were entirely electric. An additional 19% are hybrid cars, only 23% are fully fossil-fuel-powered. (this is a whopping factor of 5 higher than California and Netherlands who are #2 and #3 in the world in EV-penetration)Paid parking in Norway now largely works by having a camera at the entrance to the parking-lot read your license-plates, there’s no ticket to purchase, no manual payment of fees, instead you simply drive in and park — the cost is subtracted from your parking-account (if you have one with the operator of that parking-lot), or failing-that, you’ll get an electronic bill instead.I can open a new bank-account — in a bank I’m not currently a customer of in the next 3 minutes, without leaving the chair I’m in by the help of my mobile phone.I sometimes get to work on an electric bike with automatic transmission. It’s pretty fun to bike; feels as if you’re fit even if you’re not.All McDonalds in Norway now have self-order touch-screens, you can still talk to a cashier if you like, but it’s not the default to do so.My gym, all public pools, the library, my work-place and my home all have RFID-readers (some of them in combination with a pin-code), I enter all of these electronically. If my car was a little bit newer than it is I’d never use physical keys at all.Average household have a 40Mbps internet-link, depending a bit on which source you believe. As ranked by at least most sources we’re in the top-10 globally.Roughly 95% of the people between 15 and 70 own a smartphone, and the same is true for 87% of the children between 9–11, 97% of the children between 12–14 and 100% of the children 15–18.Each of these, and the many other examples, don’t mean all that much taken in isolation, but in sum total it adds up to a lot.
