What is your plan for Valentine’s Day?

Thanks Vivek Singh & Pratap Shinde for A2A!For me Valentine, love, life, excitement everything means my wife.If she is with me everyday is a Valentine's, if she is not there life has no relevance!Talking about our plans-She would wake me up at 6.30 (kicking me out of bed).I would freshen up, give a kiss on her cheeks and leave for a walk. She would wish me “Happy Valentines Day Sweetheart" while leaving for office. We will have the evening tea together, discuss important things like career, plans, future & general things like how did the day go?These are the small moments of love we both relish everyday in our life, nothing special on a Valentine's Day.Also going to malls and restaurants is not feasible due to high traffic & unnecessary price hikes.

What was the most remarkable accomplishment you've had this year?

I am excited about writing this answer. Yay!!I came to the USA after marriage in March 2018 to accompany my husband. We both decided to have our baby quickly, and luckily I got pregnant in May 2018. I was alone along with my husband and managed the pregnancy. Now delivery time was approaching, and I wasn’t able to do anything. My doctor told me that I could go into labor anytime. Unfortunately, neither my parents not my in-laws could visit us. Their plan is for coming to America from India got canceled at the last minute. We both decided to handle it alone, since we had no choice. God gave us more challenges as even after an overall normal pregnancy, I could not deliver the baby through natural birth. The doctor waited for 18 hours and we ended up doing a cesarean section. Finally, I delivered a beautiful baby girl on January 11, 2019.Right after delivering my baby, I was able to feed my baby. We both were worried how we would handle everything. Being on bed rest, I started doing everything: changing diapers, holding her skin to skin, oil massaging, bathing, breastfeeding, burping, making her sleep. I totally forgot about my incisions.I would like to mention that Nothing was possible without my husband. He helped me in doing everything. He used to feed me, hold me, he even changed my pad. He made me strong mentally and emotionally. He was the one who both cried with me and supported me. That was the most challenging time of our life, but we are happy we accomplished it. Now when I see my daughter (she is 6 months old now) I feel it’s my lifetime achievement, and not only of this year, becoming a mother.I couldn’t resist sharing her pictures.Edit 1-Thank you to all readers! Your continuous appreciation has made us feel overwhelmed. I didn’t even think that I would get so much love and affection. Moreover, based on a reader’s request, I am sharing our picture. Here’s my blissful life!Edit-2Our daughter’s name is Advika, which means “unique.”Thank you!

What do you want to do with your future?

This is such an exciting question. Here’s my future plan (at the moment). Before I begin, you should know that I suffered a spinal cord injury three years ago that left me paralyzed. Thankfully and luckily, I have made a spectacular recovery. However, I promised myself three years ago that I would find a way to cure paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries so that no man, woman, or child would ever have to walk in my shoes. That promise has greatly shaped my future plan.Age 23. I will have graduated Hopkins with two bachelor’s degrees—one in neuroscience and one in Spanish. I will have additionally earned a master’s degree in neuroscience. Most of my undergrad years will be spent researching and working on my project that benefits individuals with disabilities in Baltimore.Age 24. I will have convinced a medical school (hopefully UCLA, UChicago, Northwestern, or Columbia) to accept me—an individual with a physical disability—into its MSTP (MD/PhD) program. I will spend the next eight years working toward receiving my MD and PhD degrees. My PhD will be in neuroscience, of course.Age 32. I take a gap year to marry my beautiful fiancé and do research, and we have our first kid.Age 33. I start my four-year residency program.Age 34. My wife and I have twins and call it quits on having more children.Age 37. I begin my three year fellowship program in pediatric neurology.Age 40. I return to Baltimore and begin my career working at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. I focus primarily on my research and only see patients twice a week.Age 50. After 10 years at JHH, I am elected as chief of neurology at the hospital.Age 65. After nearly four and a half decades of dedication, my team and I have finally found the cure for paralysis. After a few years of testing and clinical trials, the drug/therapy is officially released for use around the world. We have done it. No longer will Abby or Will have to rely on their wheelchair to get around. They can return to the physical activities they once immensely enjoyed. That’s my plan, guys. It’s purely based on curing paralysis and beginning a wonderful family with the woman I love.I don’t care about money or fame, as I believe those are simply just distractions.I want to fulfill my promise that I made to myself many moons ago and love my awesome family. We will see how this all turns out. For now, I am just an awkward teenager with great aspirations.—KH
