No avoid LSE, specifically accounting, economics or finance degrees if you want to go anywhere in finance.To be picked for an investment banking internship - assessment centre, it's better to do a difficult degree with some crazy weird extra curriculars. This way you'll stand out when compared to others.One of the firms I've worked for in the past had a rule not to even look at economics/finance degrees on CV's for a relatively “easy” job. They would go straight in the bin. Why? You learn rubbish at university and after 3 years of uni it would take too long to alter the mind of a finance grad (as they think they know it all) in contrast to a medicine grad for example. We realised that the medicine grad really wanted the job while the finance grad just sorta wanted..I've seen some of these “top” students with no experience acting like we as bank should go on our knees and beg them to join us. It's hilarious.

From talking with various managers of the interns my companies hired, Chinese students are not lacking creativity compare with foreign students internship with us. Chinese students were assessed to be more reliable and having more substance when internship than foreign students. Foreign interns were considered easier integrate to work environment, showing more enthusiastic, and better at networking.The reasons why Chinese students are perceived that way, as per we discussed, are because Chinese students are much less outspoken, are afraid of stepping outside of their boundaries, and afraid of making mistakes. That's why you see the Chinese students appears to be meek, easily embarrassed, and only give their thoughts when asked.The Chinese culture emphasizes a lot on humbleness, especially to students who are lack of experience. Talk without thinking it through is considered reckless. Giving wild ideas is scolded as wasting other’s time. Insisting one’s own idea is deemed as arrogant. China is generally a favored place for introverted thinkers. However, recent boom in startups and the Internet industry, plus the boom of live streaming, young adventurers have great opportunities to succeed early in their age. As a result, young people become much more confident and outspoken, showing personality became a positive traits, but it is still a new trend.One interesting finding is that Chinese students, and young employees, require permission to do things outside of their checklist of tasks. Instead of everything except prohibited is allowed to do, the Chinese employees think everything not specifically allowed are prohibited. As anyone else who are engaged, the Chinese employees want to go extra miles to do a better job, but afraid of stepping out of line and offend someone. An easy fix to this mentality is to give permission upfront for them to push boundaries, “I expect you to find new way to solve that problem” . Be specific in the beginning and be consistent in encouraging the behavior you want, you will see them starting to become more outspoken, more proactive, more creative and happier with their work. I have done it many times and it is very effective.If you find some students are not participating the discussion, allow time for them to think before talking, ask them questions (permit them to give their thoughts) at the end.Hope it helps
