If every country had the same requirements for employers that Americans have, then it would be different. But they don’t.I’m not saying that the American government should do away with the rules and regulations that protect American workers. Not at all. I like (most of) those rules and regulations.What the American government SHOULD do is impose a tariff on imports that offsets the costs that employers have to pay for hiring American workers.If, for example, it’s cheaper to import Chinese-made steel, rather than pay American steel workers to make the steel, because the Chinese steel manufacturers don’t have the same rules and regulations, then the American government should put an import tax on the Chinese-made steel until that steel is the same price as the American-made steel.Really, all the government would be doing is correcting one of the unintended consequences of their former corrections that addressed worker safety and the environment.So why are American conservatives opposed to globalism? Because the American government has put American employers at a disadvantage on the global market.
