Homeless Verification Letter: Fill & Download for Free

There are agents who work with the homeless who can use their address to receive checks. Most of the time you are trained at the social services to receive a card by mail. You use this card every time you go to a bank or store. If you stay in a shelter, the shelter writes a verification letter proving you reside there so that you can receive mail there. If you have a payee, they receive the check in the mail.

Depends on where you are. You should start by looking up your state’s requirements to obtain an ID. Some places allow you to use a shelter address as a valid address for identification. For example, in Portland, Oregon you can use TPI (Transistion Project Inc.) as an address for an ID and you don’t actually have to stay there, and in California you can ask for a Homeless Verification Letter to use in place of an address when getting an ID. If not, hopefully you have a housed friend who can let you use their address. If you need a utility bill in your name, this could be problematic. If you’re needing a letter from a government agency, a change of address with the post office will usually work, as will a letter from the Department of Social Services (or the equivalent). You can get both of these pieces of mail without an ID. You do not need ID to receive things like food stamps (you do, however, need a social security number), so this is a doable piece of mail. In certain states, like New York, if you qualify for food stamps, you will be issued a benefits card with your picture on it which you might be able to use to cover the picture ID requirements that many states have. If you need a social security card and don’t have a valid photo ID, you can obtain one using your medical records. You can also contact the state where you last had an ID and request information about having them do a record release, which would essentially allow you to receive documentation verifying your identity for the DMV. I know for a fact South Dakota does this, but you have to provide the ID number. You can also use jail IDs and court documents to help prove identity.If you have had “on the books” employment any time in the recent past you may be able to get a copy of your pay stubs that show your social security number (you will have to contact the employer to obtain this). W-2 forms can be used to prove social security number too. You can get some paystubs without social security numbers at a website called WAGEverify, which can still help prove identity.Educational records can also be used to prove identity. If you can get high school or college transcripts sent to you or copies of any type of diploma (GED, regular diploma, training certificates), these may be helpful. Any fairly recent student IDs with photos and other identifying information also tend to be helpful. Mail from a recently attended educational institution is often considered valid proof of address, although some states require proof that you are currently attending school.If you are really hard up, and unable to prove your identity enough to obtain anything, you may want to accept shelter services, and get a caseworker. Really tough cases require more help than anyone on Quora is likely to give you. Other than all of the above, what’s really required is a willingness to spend a lot of time on the phone, and waiting in lines. It sucks.

The rules and regulations are different in every state and every county (every state may have multiple counties and those counties may have their own rules and income limitations). it may be way harder to get on the waiting list in some areas rather than others.
