I have change my name both first and last name so i am able to answer your question completely.Name change procedure is very simple i have done it on my own and you can too of you know how to get it done. Changing ones name is quite common these days a lot of peoples are changing their name for a lot of reasons. Anyone who wish to change his name can do this following these steps.Affidavit - After deciding your new name you have to make an affidavit regarding your name change. For this you have to visit a notary and ask them to make an affidavit for change of name. Make affidavit on Rs 50 stamp. Mention these things in your affidavit new name, old name, adress, your current name in all documents, a valid reason for name change (does not like your current name or astrology or numberology or etc). Get this affidavit notarized by your notary.Newspaper Publication - this is the 2nd step for this and that is publishing your name change ad in two newapapers 2 paper can be anyone it does not matter whether it is times of india or the hindu my advise is to publish ad in 2 local newspaper of your area. One ad in your native language and one in a national language. Ad should be like this - old name father name adress area pincode have changed my name to New name for all future purposes.Gazette Notification- this is the final step for your name change and this is to publish your name change notification in your state or central gazette i will advise you to publish it in state gazette. For this you will need your name change affidavit , newspaper ads (if needed) in rajasthan i dont need to have though i had put ads in 2 newspapers but gazette officials said that newspaper ad is not necessary for gazette. So in rajasthan for gazette publication i need an affidavit, 1050 Rs DD, an application form and an Id(aadhar card or marksheet etc) i submit all this personally by visiting govt press and also i will advice you to submit all this personally by visiting your state gazette so you can better understand all the gazette process. After submiting they will give you a slip keep that slip safe and after 1 month again visit govt press office give that slip to them and they will provide you gazette and in that gazette book you will find your notification in name change notifications area. After gazette notification your name change process is complete now you can enjoy your new name.After completing these 3 steps you need to change your name in all current documents for this you will need your name change affidavit, newspaper ad(in some areas), and gazette notification. Remember you can not change your name in educational certificates. But it is not necessary too. So get your name change in documents luke aadhar card pan card license bank account etc.So this was the full name change process i have done it on my own and you can do it too by following the steps that i have mentioned. If you have registered your name with board then it is really a very hard process though not impossible as my sister also changed her name.First you have to give a information about your name change in a hindi and english national daily,then submit an affidavit to court and then court will certify the name change . Then send photocopy of this affidavit to board office and then will change the name in document.good luck.
