PDF Editor FAQ

Anthony Joshua has made boxing exciting again and has resurrected the modern heavyweight division. How would you respond to this?

The only things Anthony Joshua made exciting in boxing was his proving he never was even remotely a great fighter, and that obesely fat people can beat up guys who look like Mr. America.Joshua did make track exciting again after his 12 round sprint away from Shamu the Whale, who waddled in his wake.He also kindled excitement in all you can eat buffets after an Obese Mexican, who trained on a diet of tacos and beer, beat his bodybuilder quality hindparts.CREDIT PICTURE YOU-TUBEThe only thing Anthony Joshua made exciting in boxing was that he proved he never, ever, was anything remotely resembling a great boxer, and that anyone with a pulse had a chance to beat himHe looked the part of a champion, except, well, he wasn’t really a good fighter. The Emperor had no clothes, and fat Andy exposed the fact. Lots of writers on this site - Tony Kent, Johnny Walker, Keith Scott, among others - had been saying for months, that Joshua was a highly limited boxer skill wise, who had, in fact, regressed since the Olympics. Indeed, AJ was a very limited amateur boxer who had 22 fights, and had his opponents carefully selected for him. He hadn’t learned from his fights, but became convinced of his own immortality.Anthony Joshua had put on a stone's weight since the Olympics, cutting down on his fluidity, his footspeed, and movement, but impressing the hell out of sponsors with his magnificent physique.Instead of the kid who lived at his Mom's, (and now is apparently back doing so at least part of the time) and spent his days, all day every day, at the gym honing his skills. At the time of the first Ruiz fight, Joshua was renting a £20,000 a week mansion and did photo shoots for millions all day, spent his nights with super models, and trained occasionally, doing weights to hone his physique, instead of sparring to hone his skills.Of all people, Floyd Mayweather saw this coming years ago. Mayweather, who knows and likes Joshua, watched him beat Wlad, and when asked what he thought, old cherry picking Floyd said, "hey, he is getting hit too much. They aren't teaching him defense."Floyd offered to let him train in Vegas with him, and promised if he did, in a year "no damn heavyweight will lay a glove on you!"Joshua should have listened. Instead, he let Hearn sign him up to hawk everything that could be bought or sold, and let him spend his days in commercials, instead of in the gym.Hearn made sure his china champion won by picking all time bad competition for himHearn made sure it worked by selecting the poorest collection of opponents anyone not named Deontay Wilder could find. Indeed, Wilder and Joshua became the only champions of history to give an opponent not ranked in the top 1,000 a title shot! That was only because Deontay’s grandmother and Joshua’s 10 year old cousin were otherwise occupied. When Hearn picked Ruiz to step in to fight Joshua, he picked carefully, a fat guy who had never beaten anybody remotely resembling a contender. Obese Andy Ruiz had never even fought a fighter in the top 200 before he beat Joshua - and had been defeated himself by the #246 fighter, Joseph Parker, his only venture, before Joshua, into the ring with a top 500 fighter! In addition to being the size of a small building, Ruiz lacked the sheer strength, punching power, discipline, commitment, and focus, needed to approach being a great fighter. The only thing “Great” about Ruiz is his enormous girth, and his equally incredible appetite. Thus, Hearn figured, a perfect opponent for his magnificent looking but poor fighting champion.Joshua, who at least has size, strength, reach, and good fundamentals, should have won the first fightAnthony Joshua had the raw tools to defeat a limited but courageous boxer who is so out of shape his fat jiggles every time he moves. Ruiz is not some deadly puncher, he is a fat guy who had only knocked out 63% of his very pedestrian opponents. AJ is 4 inches taller, much stronger, with nearly a foot of reach on the fat man. All he had to do was follow his simple fight plan: jab, grab and clinch if he gets close, counter when it is safe. Protect that chin.Could he manage to do that? of course not!Why was Obese Andy, who had never defeated a top 500 fighter, able to thoroughly stomp Joshua into peanut butterJoshua lost for three reasons:AJ proved the suspicions about his chin correct; his chin is indeed made of the finest glass; Floyd Patterson would be proud! He failed to follow his very reasonable fight plan, which was to use his huge size and strength to keep Ruiz at bay, jabbing him with his 8 inch reach advantage, clinching when Ruiz managed to get close. When AJ caught him with that first right, and knocked the fat man down, he forgot his entire fight plan, and rushed forward and engaged the Mexican.Even worse, watching the fight, he very politely crouched down, so Ruiz had a better shot at his china chin.In the Ruiz rematch Joshua proved he was better at track than boxing, and Obese Andy proved to fat people everywhere that fat people can get much fatterAnthony Joshua’s win was a combination of:following the fight plan his team laid out to not engage, and use his foot of reach advantage of jab, grab, and clinch every time Ruiz tried to get inside;lose 20 pounds and practice his track skills, so most of the night he could run briskly around the ring with Andy (I used to be the size of a small house, now I am the size of a large apartment building) lumbering after him;Ruiz being the size of Shamu the Whale and about as mobile.Wlad Klitschko worked with AJ and emphasized to him when your chin is questionable, but you have reach and size, then jab and grab when the short man tries to get in punching range, clinch if he does, and when the clinch is broken, if the short man is fatter than the Goodyear Blimp, run circles around him while he lumbers after you like a beached whale.Your opponent showing up the size of the Hidenberg and having the mobility of Babe the Blue Ox helps. The always blunt Teddy Atlas captured the awe people felt at seeing a fighter the size of Mount Everest:>“Please Mr. Ruiz don’t pretend with 30 secs left that you want to fight, you had 12 rds to go get inside and fight. What time is Shake Shack open to in Saudia Arabia?”#JoshuaRuiz2 hashtag on Twitter>— Teddy Atlas (@TeddyAtlasReal) December 7, 2019Nor was Atlas alone - Other boxing figures expressed wonder at Fatter Andy’s complete lack of any conditioning:George Foreman, known for being rotund in his time, (though nowhere near as fat as fatter Andy!) blasted Ruiz’s obesity:“Guys will tell you, ‘This is the way I look. I told you I’ve been there and I feel better at this weight and everything.’ But nobody, absolutely no one, wants to put their body on display and look that much out of shape. They don’t want to do it, I’m telling you. Don’t let him trick you.’’George Foreman says excess weight will cost Andy Ruiz Jr. in rematch vs. Anthony JoshuaReacting to Ruiz’s claim that he weighed nearly 284 pounds because he wore a sombrero, Foreman said, “oh my Lord!”Anthony Joshua set weight watchers back 100 years after the most obese champion in history waddled his way to victory in the first fight over JoshuaThere is no nice way to say this: Ruiz was always a fat slob, and is now a much fatter slob, whose long range cardiac and total health are in considerable danger, and the guy he beat was not the best heavyweight in the world, not even close.Ruiz's body mass index, at his fighting weight for the first fight, was 33%, or dangerously, obese. Now Fatter Andy has a body mass index of 36.5, Class II obesity, or even more dangerously obese!Tyson Fury, with his unique perspective on life, said " "He's an inspiration for all fat people out there!Tyson Fury praises 'fat kid' Andy Ruiz Jr.Anthony Joshua proved that running away is the best defense if your chin is made of the finest glass, Ruiz proved if you eat 24 hours a day, you get fatterPeople wondered why they were seeing a trimmer and lighter Joshua with track shoes running busily in training, while his team was weeping for joy at every sighting of Ruiz at another all you can eat buffet. From the sound of the bell for Round One, Joshua was off faster than the finest racehorse ever entered in the Derby. He raced tirelessly around the ring, with the fattest champ in history, now another 16 pounds of hot dogs and beer heavier, waddling after him. When he paused for breath, and Fatter Obese Andy would get near, Joshua employed the very finest Wlad jab, grab, and clinch, and when the referee broke them, Joshua was back to the races!Never has a boxing champion waddled so slowly, or a former champion run so swiftly! It may not have been much of a boxing match, but as a track meet it was exciting!CREDIT:Boxrec for statistics and career rankingsGeorge Foreman says excess weight will cost Andy Ruiz Jr. in rematch vs. Anthony Joshua£61m Anthony Joshua lavishes gifts on family - but still lives with his mumRing for annual ratingsTeddy Atlas (@TeddyAtlasReal) December 7, 2019 Teddy Atlas on Twitter Teddy Atlas on TwitterTyson Fury praises 'fat kid' Andy Ruiz Jr. Tyson Fury praises 'fat kid' Andy Ruiz Jr.

How long would any of the modern heavyweights, Fury, Joshua, Fury or Ruiz last against a prime Mike Tyson?

The three stooges of modern boxing, Curly, Moe and Larry, (Fury, Deontay and AJ), plus Shamu, the Fattest ex-champion of history, Fatter Andy Ruiz…Anyone who thinks three clowns and a blimp could waddle to a victory over a peak (because there never was a prime) Mike Tyson doesn’t know anything about boxing!ALL the stooges and fatso would all succumb to Rooney trained Mike Tyson in short order, in less than 2 rounds, unless Mike felt like prolonging their misery.“Skills pay the bills.” Mike Tyson hit twice as hard, was twice as fast, and more skilled, than Fury. Mike hit harder, faster, than Wilder AND actually could box. Mike was a better boxer asleep than Joshua, and actually had a chin! Post prison Mike, who never trained, was better drunk or high than Fatter Andy Ruiz!CREDIT PICTURE SPORTING NEWSTyson Fury is the best of the modern stooges and the Fatter Shamu Ruiz, and Fury makes no bones about the fact he believes Mike Tyson would have knocked him out in the first round. After Deontay Wilder made his comments about Mike Tyson recently, Fury spoke up defending Iron Mike, and then, after a reporter asked how he himself would have done against Tyson, Fury said this:Speaking to TMZ Fury said there would be no contest if he fought ‘Iron’ Mike back in his prime:“Yeah, I think Mike Tyson would have knocked me out in 30 seconds.”The reporter asked was he serious to which Fury replied:“Yeah.”CREDIT TMZ AND BOXING NEWS AND VIEWSTyson Fury On How He Would Have Done Against Mike Tyson | Boxing News and ViewsFury is a lot of things, but he is serious about boxing history and in place in it (except when he is promoting a bout!).The computer simulations run by Friday Night Fights has Fury lasting 2 rounds, and going down and out in the second.Fury doesn’t think he would make it to two. His tricky boxing game and bullying his opponents with his size would run up against one of the fastest, hardest punching, volume punchers in history. Mike Tyson would beat Fury’s body like a giant bongo drum until timberrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!Wilder would do no better against Iron MikeLennox Lewis had a good laugh at the thought of Mike Tyson schooling Wilder:I just heard Deontay Wilder said he would destroy a young Mike Tyson. My thoughts are that it’s easy to talk until you actually get in the ring. I like Wilder but he’s never been in there with someone that ferocious who truly wants to break his ribs with every punch. I don’t see it,” Lewis stated.Joshua comes right out and says Mike Tyson was better than him or anyone elseHe himself said of Tyson:“G.O.A.T. There’s not enough words to say about this man. He was and still is my motivation.”Anthony Joshua names heavyweight he sees as 'Greatest of All Time' - not Muhammad AliJoshua certainly makes clear he doesn’t think he could beat Mike Tyson.Fatter Andy Ruiz against Mike Tyson is laughableThe only chance Fatter Andy would stand is if he fell on Mike when he was introduced before the fight began, and crushed Mike.Or, he might win an all you can eat contest with Mike.Or checkers. But boxing, ha, ha, ha. Mike would beat 60 pounds of blubber off of Shamu.A summary of Mike Tyson’s skills vis a vis the modern heavyweights:Mike TysonMike's speed, and defense, cannot be underestimated. In his prime, he was a short, lightning fast boxer with enormous power and incredible handspeed, was always vulnerable to taller rangy fighters who could rotate out and away, and control the fight with a jab. Under Rooney, he neutralized those fighters by being in good enough shape to go the distance, with constant movement, bobbing and weaving, to slip punches, and great defense.Blessed with incredible speed and strength, he used his short stabbing jab to set up his hooks.Under Rooney Mike landed 56 percent of his power punches, which is 15 percentage points higher than the heavyweight average. For instance, against Trevor Berbick, Tyson landed more power punches (46) than the total punches that Berbick threw (43), according to CompuBox.Tyson FuryRoy Jones sums up Fury and Fury’s place in history best. Although Jones credited Fury with a great performance and considers him an all-timer from the standpoint of "being able to figure out the puzzle," he's against the idea that Fury suddenly cemented himself as a legend. The reason, along with Fury's short sample size, is that he doesn't feel Wilder had a strong enough resume heading in:“You can't call [Fury] an all-timer because the bully just hadn't been bullied yet." ”Andre Ward notes:“You can't call [Fury] an all-timer because the bully just hadn't been bullied yet." ”He doesn't have a lot of great names on his record. He's really got two.”Larry Holmes says flatly Fury is no all time great:“I would’ve knocked Fury out, I would’ve hit him in the body, head, then circled around. Hit him with right hands and left hooks. I ain’t going to stand there and trade with him like Wilder did. It ain’t no match.”Fury simply is not that strong or fast, just big, with good boxing skills, a willingness to fight dirty, and a lot of heart. I still think Mike does exactly what Fury said he would do, which is roar inside, and knock him out in the first round. Fury doesn’t have the speed or the strength to keep Tyson off of him, and knows it.Anthony JoshuaSteve Kim at ESPN says it best:“Whoever wins the rematch between WBC belt holder Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury on Feb. 22 has to be considered the sport's best big man. Bottom line is that neither Fury nor Wilder has been defeated -- or knocked out, for that matter. If Joshua were to face Wilder, you wonder if he'd be able to take Wilder's lightning bolt right hand. If he was paired with Fury, it's doubtful that Joshua could outbox him, the way he did the plodding Ruiz.”AJ may look like a champion when he poses, but in real life, he is a good, but never great, fighter.Andy Ruiz Jr. has said Joshua is:“Not good at boxing, the only thing that he can do is just run around, he's not good at boxing.""Fury said of Joshua:“RIt’s going to be a left hook to the temple, and you’re going to see him doing a Bambi dance all over the ring. Have the guts to step up to the plate and get flattened, son!””Fury also said that he has been offering to fight Joshua for the last five years. He claimed that Joshua’s promoter has been speaking a lot of “hot air.”Fury also said:“Joshua makes himself look like a bit of an idiot."Fury also said bluntly:“He got knocked out by a little fat guy in Andy Ruiz.Joseph goes in the first.Deontay WilderDeontay Wilder was just a pipedream - he never was any good.Wilder was an illusion. People thought he was this merciless knockout artist, until he was exposed by Fury as a guy who could not box, and who had won previously because he fought the worst competition of any fighter who claimed a title.Deontay Wilder is lucky he fights in an era where talent is extremely limited, and where tomato cans are promoted as real contenders.Tyson Fury summed up Wilder’s opponents other than himself:“Wilder fought 35 bums…37 actually…Stiverne the first time he turned up came to fight…And then he’s fought Ortiz and Ortiz is 147 years-old, everybody knows that…But, he still gave him a good fight. So there’s two men, out of all of those men.”Tyson Fury: Deontay Wilder fought 34 bums, won't want a rematch) |WBN - World Boxing News - Boxing News, Reports and InterviewsRoy Jones doesn’t just point out not just the lack of names on Fury’s resume (except an old man and Wilder) but the complete and total lack of names on Wilder’s resume saying:“Right now, he still has to beat a few more fighters to become one of the greats.AndreNot only has Deontay not fought anyone, but he can’t box a lick!Boxing writer Andreas Hall said it best:“With Wilder, the foundation remains the same. The flaws were visible, but nobody could expose them.”Has Deontay Wilder been exposed? | DAZN News USUntil Fury did.Roy Jones summed it up nicely as well: “you [Wilder] are having a hard time learning boxing."Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. takes issue with Deontay Wilder's reaction to defeatTim Bradley gave him the best advice after Fury stomped a mudhole in him:“[it should] fuel him to get back to the drawing board and learn how to box the right way.”Bradley went on:“Get a couple fights, get your confidence back. Add to your craft, and then come back and face those demons.”Andre Ward chipped in as well, saying:“Wilder must learn the basic fundamentals.”Bradley and Ward: Where does Wilder go from here? Is Fury ready for Joshua?Wilder goes in the first. He is rapidly becoming Fattest Andy.Eddie Hearn offered Shamu Ruiz a fight against Derek Chisora, and Shamu declined in favor of continuing to eat every taco in Texas. Finally, he accepted a fight with 39 year old fellow fat man, the well travelled journeyman Chris Arreola.Ruiz is tougher than he looks, and brave enough, and might actually last a round. I doubt it though.A brief look at Mike Tyson’s competition as opposed to the Modern heavyweightsMike has fought 14 fighters ranked higher than anyone Deontay has beaten, period!Mike has fought 14 fighters ranked higher than anyone Joshua has beaten, other than Joshua’s two wins against 41 year old Wlad, and 39 year old Povetkin.Mike has fought 14 fighters ranked higher than anyone Fury has beaten, other than old Wlad, and (box’s at the skill level of an 11 year old) Wilder.Mike Tyson fought 4 Hall of Famer’s and beat two. All four are in the top 15 of all time.Joshua got knocked out by the #139 best boxer, the fattest champion in history, Shamu Ruiz, who waddled about the ring smacking the Ponderous AJ.Wilder never beat or even fought a top 100 fighter until Fury beat the crap out of him.Fury got chopped to pieces and his face left looking like sirloin by a bum not in the top 500.Mike Tyson beat more top 100 of all time heavyweights than the stooges and Shamu Ruiz combined.Tyson Fury defended his “lineal” title against that powerhouse #1,467 Tom Schwartz. Both Joshua and Wilder gave the slightly better #1,105 Eric Molina a title shot. All three stooges have the unique distinction of being the only champions in history to give a title fight to someone outside the top 1,100 heavyweights.Ruiz only beat one fighter in the top 1,000, Joshua, as he waddled after him.To sum up Mike Tyson and the four modern heavyweights:Mike Tyson in his Rooney days was a force; strong, fast, incredible handspeed, volume power puncher, and good defensively, his only weakness was lack of size;Fury can’t punch enough to take advantage of his giant size, but he has heart and ring IQ and would try;Wilder can’t box enough to take advantage of his height, reach and power, and Iron Mike would punch a hole in him;Joshua can’t take a punch well enough to do anything with a force like Iron Mike, andRuiz can’t stop eating long enough to fight any serious contender, let alone Mike Tyson.Fanboys who think one of these journeymen could beat Tyson are deluded by the thought that bigger automatically means better…Bigger does not mean better. There are writers on here, like good old never was, who know nothing of boxing, and who confuse size with skill.Boxing writer and historian, Frank Thomas, explains the difference between size and skill:“In the minds of some, size trumps all. Ergo, the Klitschkos [or Joshua] should defeat any other heavyweight who is not of similar stature. This gravely misunderstands the role of size in boxing, as amply demonstrated by yesteryear’s Primo Carnera, the Golden Age’s own Ernie Terrell, or modern fighters such as Nikolai Valuev and Lance Whitaker. In addition to height, it also misreads what “size” is.Many modern heavyweights are bigger than their 1980s counterparts. Yet does that mass make them a better fighter? If it was earned by lifting weights, [or PED's] as is all too often the case, then the answer is no.Because fighters today are bigger, does not mean they are better. A physique like AJ's is useful if he is posing on a stage for Mr. Universe, and not a bit of help in the ring while a fat Mexican is pounding his huge posterior. His size helps him against boxers without the skill to actually box him.Emmanuel Steward said of today’s bigger fighters:“All the good big men are in the NFL or NBA!"He went on to say that the money is so good in the NBA and NFL, which have medical coverage and a good pension plan to boot, that fighters like Tyson, Lewis, Foreman and Liston, would today be in other sports. Conclusion:Put these guys in with a young, focused, Rooney-trained Tyson? As Jake LaMotta used to say, forget about it!They all go out in a round or two. He could probably whip them all on the same night.CREDIT:Boxrec for all records, statistics and rankingsAnthony Joshua names heavyweight he sees as 'Greatest of All Time' - not Muhammad AliBoxing legend Roy Jones Jr. takes issue with Deontay Wilder's reaction to defeatBradley and Ward: Where does Wilder go from here? Can Andy Ruiz bounce back from his loss to Anthony Joshua?

Can Andy Ruiz bounce back from his loss to Joshua? Unless he stops eating, he will bounce all the way to the nearest all you can eat buffet, but that’s it.Teddy Atlas summed it all up when he said to Andy “when does the Shake Shack open there?”Unless Andy gets in better shape, he will be a joke, remembered as a fatter Buster Douglas.Andy Ruiz was a journeyman fighter before his one minute in the sun, when he capitalized on Anthony Joshua’s mistakes in their first fight, and managed to knock him out.Andy Ruiz got lucky in that Joshua fought stupidly the first time. Ruiz has solid fundamental boxing skills, quick hands, and heart. Mike Tyson he is not, not even a fat version. He is a limited fighter who fought someone who threw away profound physical advantages and should have won the first time, and did win the second time.Looking like Shamu the Whale, lumbering around the ring with Joshua peppering him with jabs and hitting him at will, Ruiz showed he remains a limited, if courageous, fighter.Ruiz is not some deadly puncher, he is a fat guy, now a much fatter guy, who had only knocked out 63% of his very pedestrian opponents before facing AJ the first time. Ruiz had faced exactly one ranked contender before Joshua, (Joseph Parker then holding an alphabet title), and lost to him. Shoot, once he stung AJ in the third round, it took him 4 more rounds to finish him! Believe this, if Wilder had caught him, he would have finished him immediately!Andy Ruiz is a fat slob.Fatter Andy Ruiz, who just weighed in at a strapping 283 1/2 fat filled pounds, or 15 1/2 jiggling pounds of lard fatter than last time was a joke in the rematch. There is no nice way to say this: Ruiz was always a fat slob, and is now a much fatter slob, whose long range cardiac and total health are in considerable danger, and the guy he beat was not the best heavyweight in the world, not even close.Ruiz's body mass index, at his fighting weight for the last fight, was 33%, or dangerously, morbidly obese. Now Fatter Andy has a body mass index of 36.9 or even more dangerously obese!Even for a young, and active person, being overweight or obese can cause health problems. And it can, and usually does directly increase the risk for certain health problems later in life, including some kinds of cancer. He is not just at an increased risk for cancer, but also cardiac issues, diabetes, and kidney disease.Tyson Fury, with his unique perspective on life, said "Hey, Ruiz is an inspiration to fat people everywhere!"Do not confuse the issues: Round Ruiz can be fat and still fight, but to answer this question, he is certainly not in optimum shape for anything other than possibly signing on as the poster boy for Weight Watchers. Ruiz, meanwhile, was 268 pounds before the post-fight partying, none of it sculpted, with fat jiggling like a bag of Jello! He is now almost 300 pounds and lumbered around the ring like a beached whale. And he was, a fat guy. He is now a FATTER guy. It will cost him dearly at some point in his life. The statistics on cardiac problems and other health issues and obesity are a sad fact. Hopefully, with all the money coming from this rematch, he will invest in a dietician, and a team that will help him actually get in shape. With the right amount of muscle and less fat, he would then be a lot better fighter, and a lot healthier too.How would Ruiz do against Wilder or Fury? Most boxing folks think Wilder would smack Ruiz so hard he would lose 40 pounds of fat. The same folks think Fury would smother him with his huge size - he has over a foot of reach on him! - and box his fat little ears off.I don't think Ruiz could beat ancient Luis Ortiz. But everyone could be wrong - we have to wait to see the fights, unless Ruiz eats himself to death in the interim. (he looked fatter than the Hindenburg the last time I saw him on TV!)And those are the facts. Look for Andy at the hot dog eating contests!
