John Vivian Truman (he went by his middle name to distinguish him from his father, John Anderson Truman) was born April 25, 1886 in Harrisonville, Missouri, a little less than two years after his brother, Harry. He worked on the family farm off and on, leaving after his 1911 marriage but returning by 1930 having built a home to the north and west of the farmhouse the Truman family lived in from 1894 on.Vivian served as field representative with the Federal Housing Administration in Kansas City from 1935 to 1945. In 1945, he was appointed assistant director, and district director three years after that, serving to 1953. Vivian helped to keep his brother informed of political news in Missouri.
