The major darker sides of studying in the US as an international student are as follows :Cost of education: US is extremely expensive when it comes to getting any degree, whether it's bachelors or masters, unless you can manage some scholarship or assistantship. Per year the tuition fee can go up to $40000 or way more. Secondly the cost of education is not even also, there are 3 categories of fee, instate ( student who reside in that state where the university belongs ), out of state (student who comes from other states of the US), and international who are flying from various places abroad. Generally for international student the tuition fee is the highest and scholarship opportunities are the least unless you are exceptionally brilliant in few areas. I managed some scholarship but it was one of the toughest times to get it and maintain it, and even after that you have to pay a whole lot to just do your education. That's why in America you will always hear people saying that they are paying their education debt.Second problem comes from first problem, because of so high tuition fee, students look for part-time jobs. Of course these jobs don't pay a lot , more or less on an average 10$ an hour sometimes a bit more or less. As an international student you can work 20 hours a week with your F1 student visa, while studying and during holidays you can work 40 hours. The jobs can be working in a restaurant cafeteria, to becoming a grader, an undergraduate teaching assistant, a tutor, working in a library or any other type of job. In certain universities you are allowed to work off campus depending on your needs and sometimes on special request. Believe me , doing this is very necessary to keep up to your living as you start getting broke while paying for your education. On top of that you have to pay for your rent, your electric internet bills, health insurance, books, food, and all your basic necessities. This part time job is the only way of survival for that, unless you want to ask your parents and make them broke as well for you. You will have tons of assignments, exams, projects, group activities, attain all such lectures, where you have to get good grades on top of that everyday for few hours either very early in the morning or late in the night you have to work also and balance your life…, don't expect the weather to be nice. In winter if you are anywhere in the central USA, Midwestern to northern USA temperature can go as cold as -30C. You wake up that early in 6am and work for 3 hours or 5 hours then attain your first lecture or give an exam.. so life is exactly not sweet when you do that on a daily basis.Maintaining your grades I felt is challenging too. In Europe or in India getting a 70% is quite a good grade and it's tough too to get such a grade in European grading system or in Indian grading system. In USA a 70% is a C- and above 97% is a A+ so I don't understand this thing even now that how can a 27% grading difference makes a person to fail in the test and one to show that they are genius. So few wrong answers can completely screw your grade leading to loss of scholarship, no jobs in future, or even getting expelled from the University if you have an overall bad grade twice.. , I thankfully managed it but it was so much of trauma and I didn't liked it.If you are an international student, don't expect you will get a job in USA after your studies you may have to go beyond all your talents and capabilities to get a job that too you might not get a proper one in your field. This does not apply for US only, this applies for everywhere whether it's USA or Europe. Unless you have done a degree in computer science or engineering or maybe in robotics or a very high demanding profession where they lack skilled workers then only you might get a chance of having an interview after sending thousands of application and facing thousands of rejections. You will have to create networking or build connections by attaining several job fairs, conference through your peers, friends, educationalists, professors and whoever you can come across. Sometimes it can take months and months before you get a job..sometimes people have to leave also when they don't get in time. And finally after all this when you get an interview, you feel happy, but then you get a call from the HR of the company stating that for an international student they cannot sponsor the work visa, and down again you are back to the square one. Most of the places you will be rejected as while graduating as a student you have very less work experience, so they will only look for candidates who has lots of experience. Sad part is even to get experience you need to get an opportunity to build your experience which no one in this world understands. There are lot of greedy consultancy firms in USA who will try to trap international students by putting fake experiences in their resume and marketing such CVs , don't fall in such traps as they will try to take a portion of your salary too while the client pays a huge lot to the contractor.. secondly you will always face the fear of expectation as you will be expected to do more because of your labelled fake experience that they put in your resumeAmericans in general are very warm and smiling and always very optimistic when you first meet them..but it can be very superficial at times. Sometimes they do it just as an over courtesy rather than genuinely telling you. So a lot of time you might face the problem of false implications, in personal life, at work, in daily activities. They always greet you as “Hey, how is it going ?” With a big smile and optimistic eyes that is same as a cold “Halo” in Germany, don't ever think that how is it going means they want to know about your life. Then they will always say back , they are doing great, even they very well know their life is screwed up as well, but they will never express that to you, and never share anything emotionally, rather than they will keep faking, to make you feel even worse that you are the only person who doesn't have a great life. If you say about your problem they will say “oh my God , so and so I am so sorry , thinking of you “ , but in real if you genuinely want to discuss about your problem they will be the first to escape and run away from there. Everything in US is large whether it's food, cars, streets , houses so Americans love that large feeling so somewhat I felt there quantity overpowers quality. Another thing they love using the word “awesome” sometimes awesome is literally used for everything that the word “awesome” is devalued, my ears used to start getting rotten as I use to hear the word awesome for literally nothing. Sorry, I am not talking about every American, I have some of the best friends who are Americans but it's the type of society that I have observed for 8 years of living there . So you will always feel very fake and superficial most of the time. The reason I bought this point as while being a student in an American University you understand their culture the most as you make friends at University.Finally as a student I use to get scared of gun violence. Every 2–3 months I use to hear of shooting activities happening, well anyone can owe a gun there and it's scary to think as a student when you are a teenager or in early twenties and have lot of crazy things going in your head.You can be very lonely at times, you might not have good supporting friends around you. This does not only applies in USA, it can be in anywhere abroad, even in Europe as well. That is bad in one way, but again it makes you to be independent, courageous and become stronger mentally to do all your decisions by your own and become a self made man.., it's like do or dieWell that's what I observed in general while completing my 4 years bachelors in USA and then working there for 3 years.
