How do you feel about ex felons becoming eligible to vote?

This is a question that I got to answer at the polls here in Florida last year. It surprised me, quite frankly, to learn that former felons did not have the right to vote here in Florida - unlike in all but three other states (as of 2018). Fortunately, the amendment allowing for former felons to regain their voting rights prevailed with approximately 65% of the vote. Prior to the amendment's passage, former felons had to apply to the Florida Cabinet to have their voting rights restored. It's safe to say that only a tiny percentage of Florida's former felons ever got their voting rights restored. This process was, with all due respect, a sham.I voted for the amendment's passage, but how did I “feel” about it? Honestly, I had conflicting feelings at the time. Objectively speaking, voting for it was really a no-brainer. Former felons who have completed their sentences deserve to have their citizenship rights restored. Period. They've paid their debts to society, and they did not lose their citizenship upon being convicted of crimes. Denying them what is arguably the most sacred right of citizenship, the right to vote, was prejudicial and wrong.Admittedly, it did occur to me that passage of the amendment will (probably, though remains to be seen) benefit Democrats in future elections here in Florida. As close as elections tend to be in this state, a fraction of a percentage point can make all the difference. But…so be it. Passing the amendment was the right thing to do. I have no regrets for having supported it.

Why does University of South Florida have ‘South’ in it when it’s geographical location is not in South Fl?

In 1957, the Florida Cabinet approved the name "University of South Florida." At the time, USF was the southernmost university in the state university system.

What happened to Silver Springs, Florida?

“Environmental issues such as nitrate runoff, related to development in the region, adversely affected the park's health and tourist revenues declined. On January 23, 2013, the Florida Cabinet announced the state would take over the facility after the end of the 2013 summer season, and that the park operators would pay a $4 million buyout of their lease”
