PDF Editor FAQ
Are you satisfied with your current job and the salary you receive for it? What is the eligibility for that job?
Age - 25Current job - NTPC limitedQualification - BTECH NIT TRICHY with a CGPA of 9.04 (mechanical engg)Salary - 12.3 lpa CTC ( 58.2k inhand, free medical, laptop, mobile, bills, accomodation and the list goes on)I am very much happy and satisfied that I chose NTPC out of (ntpc, iocl, bpcl and ongc). Reason being the kind of work culture, people around you and yeah a year long training program which is indeed alot of fun. I joined NTPC in sep 2016. I had my technical training at ntpc simhadri for 3.5 months which was power plant familiarisation. The classes started at 10 am and continued till 1 pm. Then lunch break for two hours and then again a two hour session and then you can go to gym, play tennis, go for swimming and what not. People working in ntpc are really happy and satisfied with their lives and job. Right now I am in Noida undergoing management module for 2.5 months. I went for Outborne training in TEHRI for a week which was fantabulous we did tree climbing, valley crossing, trekking, rafting etc etc. I love this company to the core and would have spent my life here if it was not for a UPSC job :-P.After training we are posted to our locations where we are supposed to sit in an air conditioned control room and work from there. Only problem is that you have to work in shifts which changes in every two days. Two days morning shift(6–2) next two day afternoon(2–10) and post that night shift (10–6). Night shift being the most difficult, then you have a day off and then general shift where you do have to attend a meeting for an hour or so. So it is 6 days work and 2 days off (considering one hour general shift as off :P). You do have alot of holidays (30 earned leave, 12 casual leaves, 6 restricted holidays, 20 half paid leaves, 16 leaves for working on saturdays and plus 10 more leaves for the same purpose and is encashable). You have to work for 8 hours after that you are free to pursue your hobby. You do get a variable pay of around 1.2 lakhs per annum. You do get 60k for laptop, 40k for pc ,10 k for mobiles, briefcase allowance, spectacle allowance, free medical in hospitals like apollo and fortis, free accomodation in townships etc etc. If you enjoy city life more, then this company is not for you. As you will be posted in remotest location of the country where even flipkart delivery is not possible forget about malls, multiplex, dominos, pizza hut etc etc. But you can enjoy your life and your family can live a peaceful life.So why am i leaving ntpc?I was attracted towards GROUP A services in India since I was 6 yrs old (I am serious :P). I always wanted to be a class one officer. I have cleared ESE 2016 with an AIR 62,was expecting a far better rank but things got ruined. Everything in your life doesn’t go as you have planned. Wanted to join indian railways but will end up with indian ordnance factory services IOFS.Am i happy?Yes, I am very happy with IOFS there are several reasons for it listed below-It is not as hectic as indian railways where you always need to be on your toes. You can take leaves easily. Iofs is a (8–6) job with two hour lunch break :P.With more authorities comes more responsibilities. In railways you are heading more than 700 people at the very first posting and believe me handling people is very difficult. Handling machines is rather very easy. They won’t judge you, they wont talk behind your back. In IOFS I will be handling a staff of around 100–150 people which is good enough.I would be posted as an Assistant director in ministry of defence. Sounds good right :-P. I would have my own cabin with IES written below my name. I will have a stenographer for doing the typing stuffs.I will get military canteen facillities, will get a 2 BHK accomodation, will get all my bills reimbursed and a inhand salary of around 53–54k during training (15 months training :P) and around 62k after training though far less than ntpc (around 15–20k) but when you look at the bigger picture it doesn’t matter.Yeah and here is the most beautiful thing, i will have a car with govt of india written on it,with the logo of ministry of defence :-P. And a red beacon when i become a general manager after 28 yrs.In railways you don’t get leaves easily, your job is hectic, moreover you can get transferred or suspended if any mishap occurs. During kanpur accident DRM was transferred to ranchi and two officers were suspended. Moreover in railways more preference is given to IRSE and IRTS rather than IRSME. Only 18/67 DRMs are from IRSME. Out of total 40 chairmans only 10 are from IRSME. So you can do the math.In IOFS recruitment is done through CSE as well as ESE but the name assigned to all of them is IOFS rather than IRSE,IRSME, IRTS,IRSS, IRSEE and other services like RPF and signal engineers. And mostly railways is dominated by civil engineers and civil servants (by looking at the number of chairman from civil engg (20/41) please check wikipedia data might be incorrect). While in IOFS promotion is solely time based.I am not discouraging railways, would have taken it for sure if i had the chance :P. But i am happy and content with whatever i have got. Salaries will be same at both the places until you resort to corruption which i assume you won’t. I will become Joint GM in 13–14 yrs basic salary will rise upto 3.22 lakhs :-P. (Current basic pay of JGM is 1.18 lakhs (after 7th pay revision)multiply it by 2.67 current pay comission multiplication factor( Assuming there will be a pay revision in 10–12 yrs having atleast same multiplication factor). Anyway salary doesn’t matter when you reach a level above money, where money doesn’t attracts you anymore. You like to do a job because you are serving your country. You are serving your army by providing them arms, vehicles, clothes and what not. You get to work in tandem with DRDO, with other countries like france, russia, usa etc. And that gives you a passion to work, to let your country men have a peaceful sleep. Where you get satisfaction for your work, where you are above petty profits and all you are worried about is supplying quality product. Work culture is good, people are good, you live a peaceful life, you get a decent salary. You are happy, your family is happy. Isn’t that you were always looking for in a job? Is it about money? Is it about audi?? Is it about armani, gucci?? Then this job is not for you. Money can’t give you happiness. You will earn 40k you will find it less, then you earn 80k still less, then 2 lakhs a months and you will find that less too. :P. Your job should be meaningful, you should provide services to your nation and believe me guys I could have easily earned in 6 digits, will talk about it later someday. First let me tell you something. Why money doesn’t matter?I have to go to flashback for that. Two and half years rewind JULY 2014. I joined HERO MOTOCORP as a Graduate Engineer Trainee, CTC was around 6.25 lakhs per annum with an inhand salary of 37k. Initially there was a training of 5 months i was very happy, i made new friends, lived in gurgaon, went to haridwar stayed in big 3 star hotels, went to club PATIO in gurgaon life was very smooth and i was happy. I used to spend around 10k per month and save 27k. Then suddenly lightening struck, the day was 24th nov 2014. When suddenly the HR announced Anshul Tiwari OPERATIONS in NEEMRANA. I didn’t knew how to react, what to do,couldn’t it be dharuhera or haridwar or anything else, i mean i didn’t want gurgaon but atleast it could have been dharuhera plant. Anyway as the luck would have it,12 lucky ones out of 127 Gets got Neemrana plant. We were cursing our luck, few people even cried and i was neutral i thought i will go and study there, will crack upsc or gate and leave the job. The worse the place is, more you are motivated to leave that. Then a week later it was announced 3 more people are coming to Neemrana to join us. And next day 2 out of them resigned :P that was the terror neemrana had created. From our senior batch 14/22 had resigned within a year. I thought whatever happens, it happens for a good maybe GOD wants me to study and get outta here. Then we had orientation of various depts. One of the section head was very serious, and was asking alot of questions to us, he had a tattoo in his hand and we thought he was cool. Later he announced he is head of machine shop which was my area (2 more friends were there in it). Then came the first day he asked me to come in morning shift :P . I said sir right now i dont have my own vehicle so i can’t come in morning shift. He said ok with disdain.Somehow days passed by i was studying little bit and i bought a bike and the morning shift started. Initially it was easy but then came the month of january i had to getup at 5 am in the morning and leave by 5.45 am, temperature would be around 5–6 degree celcius. I somehow managed a week in morning shift. But then my senior colleagues and my boss asked me to come in morning shift for a month. The guy who is used to sleep at 1 am has to get up by 5 am.I forgot to describe about neemrana :P . It was a place in NH-8, 120 kms from delhi and 140 from jaipur. It was around 90 kms from gurgaon and 35 kms from rewari. So if you want to go for a movie you have to go to rewari which used to take an hour to reach. And if you want to enjoy city life you had to go to gurgaon which took around 3 hours. For food we asked a tiffin service to deliever it for 50 bucks a tiffin. As it was a new shop initially it was very good but then quality deteriorated and one day he served us stale food we called him and said it is stale we can’t eat it. He said no it is fresh,we asked him to taste it :P (all were enggs from top Nits),he dipped his finger tasted it and spitted it. And we realised that getting even basic nessesities of roti, kapda and makaan is difficult here :P. It was difficult to get a cook over there, daily you can’t eat in dhabas. We tried two or three more tiffin services all of them were really bad. One of our stingy roommate used to eat maggi and yippee daily. Or he used to go to plant early by 12 pm and had his lunch as well as dinner in plant only. (Yes there are people like that too :P) Somehow we were managing with food. There was a good restaurant we used to visit that on sundays. We were 5 flatmates all in different shifts. So sometimes we used to see each others face once in a week(even my roommate too). All of us were frustrated to the core. Only solace in our lives was the internet :P. We had a 80GB pack for a month.Coming back to my boss and office. My daily routine in morning shift was get up at 5.15 am, get ready by 5.45 am, reach by 6.05 am, then in hero motocorp there is a culture you are forced to go to prayers, you have to do exercises if you are not found doing that, you will be called by production head and he will make sure you attend it next time. Then there were around 40 operators in our shop. You have to take their attendance ( yeah just like your school), you have to distribute PPEs to them, give them few fundaes and get started for the day. You are supposed to take care of the cleaning of the shop floor area, call and find a housekeeping guy, start all the machines see if there is any problem, i was given responsibility to fill the production board to make few charts and graph and all clerk like work by then it would be 8am. Then we had a tea break where you were given a tea in a steel glass with either a packet of biscuit or something else. And yes you were so called assitant manager of an organisation as big as hero motocorp :P. You have to take care that no operator stays back after 10 mins of tea break. Once my boss found an operator standing there after teabreak, he called me and bashed me like anything and asked me to take care of it. Then there used to be a meeting of prod head with section heads and he will bash them like anything. And then they will take a meeting in their respective sections and transfer the bashing on us :P Words like you are an engineer from NIT patna you should tear away your degree and start cutting grass in the backyard, you take this much salary and you do nothing why did we hired you guys in the first place, was very common. Meanwhile i was scared with machines, I always tried to learn and get hold of it but i never succeeded, I committed a lot of mistakes and felt bad about it. I tried my level best for 3 months and I realised i was not efficient in shop floor. An engineer from a top notch college was doing something that an ITI guy can do, i had to change grinding wheels on my own along with two operators, i had to change rack of machines which involved opening nuts and bolts and standing on an oily surface and was risky too, had to put a request for getting PPEs, oil etc etc. For lunch half an hour was the alloted time but we were asked to finish it in 15 minutes and come back. I was supposed to stand from 6 in the morning to 3 in the noon,if my boss saw me sitting anytime in the day he used to say i always find you sitting and doing nothing. My clothes used to turn oily, greasy, from white to brown and what not. I never looked like an engineer rather looked like an operator. Cycle time was 18 seconds. Yeah that is the time given for assembly of your precious bike. Operators have to work their hearts out for 9k. I used to feel for them. I was trying my level best to impress my boss but he formed a perception i am waste, i can’t do anything in my life. He used to ask me to maintain a paper sheet in my pocket which should have production of all the machines (in total 30 machines) every hour. And i should be able to answer why production was low in that particular machine on that particular hour and message him every hour if any problem is there. As if i had 6 hands, 6 eyes and i could multitask :P. Few of my colleagues had no sympathy towards me. They all had an exp of 8–10 yrs and what were they doing??? Same thing what i am doing, even after 8 yrs of work ex. They were working in shifts, living a meaningless life in a village just for the sake of money. I could not have imagined my life there, i could not keep my family like that. I was getting depressed day by day. My legs used to pain like anything. Leaving time was 2.45 pm but i was not allowed to leave till i did the whole documentation and i had to stay there till 4 pm. Then i used to come back to my room sleep for an hour or two and then the quest for food would begin. Where should we eat today? We used to go to different places daily. The sole purpose of earning money is to get good food, and we were not able to find it anywhere over there. Somehow i used to study for an hour or two, then again the cycle repeated for a week. Sunday’s were meant for sleeping after the saturday night party. I didn’t get a good gate rank as i didn’t prepared well. Frustration was building in. I asked my dad should i resign and go for preparation,he said no don’t leave such a good job. My boss used to scold me atleast thrice a week. Daily after coming to the plant i used to check his car in the parking if it was not there, i used to feel,I am at the cloud 9 :P. My boss used to take alot of leaves atleast 3–4 in a month. We were entitled for around 46 leaves in a year. After a lot of frustration of 3 months. I asked my boss for a 2 days leave as i wanted to go to my home. He said why do you need these much leaves?? I told him it takes around 16 hours by train and then from here to delhi it takes around 3 hours by bus. Then i am going after 4 months,I will spend atleast 3 days there (2 leaves + sunday + 2 holidays of holi so total 5 days). He said why didn’t you booked a flight?? I told him I can’t afford it,to which he replied flights were cheaper a week back why didn’t you booked it then.( I was like what the hell is wrong with him. I am asking for 2 days leave after 4 months). Then he said okk but your performance will be affected by it i said okk sir :/ (as if i will stay here for eternity). I came back and the same routine started. One of my batchmate came from gurgaon plant for some work he looked into my condition and said please leave this bullshit job. Our job is very cool yours is like a labourer. And i went to have lunch with my friend and was talking to him about my life there. Then suddenly my boss passed by my table in canteen. And then he came back and asked what are you doing here? I told him i am having lunch. He said don’t you have manners you didn’t greet me when i passed by. He insulted me infront of my friend. I remained silent. Whenever he used to scold me i always tried to remain silent. I respected him as he was older than me,as well as he was my boss. I used to do whatever he used to say. One day one of my colleague said why do you always listen to him? He will ruin your life, speak out otherwise life will be hell for you here. I know you are not interested in work over here, try to change your department or leave this job, you are young and from a good college, you can crack GATE or IES. I regret not preparing for any exam when i was your age, you should not commit the same mistake. Get away from here this job is not for you. I got inspired and started thinking about the day when i had cleared iitjee, aieee and other exams. I knew i had the calibre all i needed was time to prepare. One fine day i was working in a machine talking to an operator and i was pissed that particular day, we were changing rack standing at a height of 12 feets, the operator forgot to lift a handle like lever which was for lubrication purpose it had holes for oil to come out. I asked him to start the machine and there I was drenched with oil from my hair to my clothes, my body was full with lube oil, that added fuel to the fire, i was in the night shift, operator apologised i told him it was not his fault. Reached home by 11.45 pm. Took a shower and started thinking is this it?? That’s how my life is going to end?? Started crying on my predicament and then decided i will do something about it. Few days passed by my boss called me one day and rebuked me infront of the operators and said really bad words, you are good for nothing, you guys know how to take salary but you don’t work. That day was it,threshold was crossed. I got angry, real angry, told him sir, i can’t work like this, you don’t like my work fine, you change my dept, even i don’t like working here, i will better resign and prepare for govt exams. He replied you can’t do a good job here, how would you clear an exam? If you leave this job I assure you that you won’t get a job anywhere. I told him that is my problem and i will live with it. After this incident he remained silent for few days but again he started bashing me, One day i was sitting and doing some paper work in pc he said you always sit down and work in a pc why don’t you go to the line and check problems there. I told him all machines are running fine and hence i am doing some paperwork. He asked me to leave at once. I went. One fine day i was talking to my colleague and he saw us,that guy was new in the machine shop. He said you are already spoiled and you are spoiling him too. You guys get salary for working here not for talking. He didn’t care for our explanation we were coming from a machine after fixing an issue. He said from next week onwards you will come on different shifts. I nodded to that. One day he bashed the new joinee(his dad was a businessman) in a way no one would. Due to some reasons a particular area behind the machine was little dirty. To which he said “ye tere baap ki company nhi hai ki tu yahan kuch bhi karega, tu yahan salary leta hai” ( this is not your dad’s company, company is paying you salary). The guy was sad, he regretted leaving his previous company, just because of the increment he got here, work culture in the previous company was far better and he was very happy over there. I started thinking about my past. Where it went wrong?? I was brilliant since my childhood, cleared JEE,AIEEE studied in a decent college, was a 9 pointer will it end here?? Can i do the same stuff for 15 yrs and then endup becoming like my boss? Daily after getting up at 5 am i used to think why am i doing this? I dont want this life :/. I filled form of SAIL one of the PSU and started preparing for it, missed it by 10 marks, got very less mark in general studies :P.I tried to focus on few other exams like nmdc and bel missed them by 7–8 marks. I knew by then i can get a job in a PSU if i work hard. I needed to leave this job to achieve something in my life. Initially i thought of changing my dept from operations to services where i will have weekends off. I talked to one of my favourite senior. I still remember what he said coz it changed my life- “Anshul, don’t go after money if you will work here for one more year you will get addicted to money and then you will not be able to leave this job. Leave it now work hard for a year if things are not working well you can come back here or use this experience to join any other company”. I talked to my mom about my plan she said leave the job you are not meant for this beta, you are meant for something big, I always wanted that you prepare for Ies, Ias but you wanted to earn money so I didn’t asked you to do that. My dad initially said its a good job, what if you don’t get any job ,competition is very tough nowadays. I told him, dad I promise you, that i will end up with a job at the end of this year, be it ssc-cgl or any other exam I will find a job but I can’t do this job for my life, i hate it to the core, I can’t survive here, I will go mad if i continue here. My dad said ok as you wish. I had saved around 3 lakhs in hero motocorp :P. Made easy fees was 60k I chose bhopal centre as I didn’t like delhi, full of negative people and pollution. My cost of living was around 6k per month. I gave my fees and tried not to ask money from my dad. But he used to send me money, he always does that I do remember during college,I used to be only lakhpati among my friend’s circle. There were few incidents when my boss blackmailed me and said some personal words about my family which I can’t share here. I cried that day how can some one say that about someone’s family. My friend asked me to lodge a complaint in HR against my boss. I was not sure what should I do? If I would have complained, there would have been a sureshot action against him. As Gets are supposedly valued in hero motocorp. I decided not to complain as I thought he has a family to support and his actions should not affect his family. I remained silent. The day was 1st june 2015. I went to his cabin with resignation letter in my hand. I told him sir I am resigning today. He replied job kahan lagi hai teri? (Where did you get a job). I told him I want to prepare for IES and I haven’t got any job, to which he replied jhut mat bol sahi bata de (don’t lie tell me the truth). I told him that it is the truth and he said “dekh le aisi job nhi milegi tjhe dobara ,taiyari bahut log karte hai soch le ekbar”(think again you won’t get a job like this again). I told him it is a well thought decision I want to pursue my dreams. I had to serve a month’s notice period. My colleagues went to him asked him to have a farewell party for me, he denied by saying “There is no farewell party for Gets”, yeah that was the hatred he had developed for me. Anyway I was given a farewell without informing him and everyone was enjoying except me, I was silent, observing everyone and thinking about my road ahead, and my plans. Then came 26th june 2015 my last day at the office, my colleagues asked me to come in general shift as it was my last day. I was talking to my colleagues, then they asked me to have my last tea. I went and was having my tea and suddenly my boss saw me sitting and having tea. He was staring at me, he looked at his watch and asked me what is the teatime? and what are you doing here? in a high pitched voice. I was pissed I told him today I came in general shift, I am not in morning shift. And then at 3 pm,there was kinda gathering where all my colleagues and my boss were present. And I was sitting in between, they all started speaking about me, one by one. One of them said, Anshul you are not sincere, you need to work very hard otherwise you won’t get selected, i remained silent. It was there time they can say whatever they want to. Few of them encouraged me and said let’s have a pic with him, next year he will become an ies officer and it will be difficult to catch hold of him, he will be very busy and he will forget us, to which I replied in negative. Then it was the turn of my boss, I was ready for his last fucking speech :P. I was happy that I would never have to see his face again. He started anshul, I also gave few exams of UPSC, you know what UPSC is very difficult to crack, anyway you can give it a try. But be sincere, work hard you don’t know how to work hard, it will take time maybe 2–3 yrs for you to crack have patience, if you don’t get selected then go for a distance learning MBA course along with your prep so that you can explain the gap, you can come back here too, I will try to give you a job, don’t worry I am always here for you and he smirked. I kept quiet, I wanted to say alot of things but I knew that it was not the right time to say that. I said ok thank you sir, I will keep that in mind. I met everyone, met whoever I knew, talked to all 80 operators who gave their hearts out. They said you were the best among all other team managers, and they will miss me alot, few of them even cried. I told them to be in touch. Then there was a party from my friends where I was sitting around and observing, thinking what to do in my future. (Today as I speak,10 out of 12 Gets have resigned from the Neemrana plant) I left for bhopal the very next day.Joined made easy worked really very hard. As many people PM me for the time table that I followed. It was I made weekly plans, three days plan and daily plan tried to stick to them. Daily I read The Hindu, I gave an hour for english and vocab, I gave one and half hour to GS, 4 hours for coaching, two hours for taking bath, eating and other stuffs, 6 hours for sleeping, remaining for technical subjects.I used to get up at 8 am. Then used to study english for an hour. Then took breakfast, and then technical till 5 pm, in b/w 45 mins for bathing and eating. Then used to go to made easy 5.30–9.30 during breaks I studied vocab and grammar, used to come back by 10 pm had my dinner then GS for one and half hour and then technical till 1.20 am. Then watched Big bang theory a episode daily. And then slept till 8 am. I followed it religiously till october. After gate I changed my sleeping habits. I used to study till 6 am and then sleep 6–12 and then took lunch/breakfast :P. I used to remember the days when I was in hero and how sad I was, and I compared it with how happy I was during preparation. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I was motivated, I knew I will clear ies very next year. I gave exams like ssc-cgl and ssc-je too. I always feel we should give more and more exams. I cleared prelims of both of them didn’t gave mains, didn’t want to spoil a seat. I gave NPC-CGPTDM cleared prelims, got called for document verification after mains, missed it by 8 marks. Reason being exam was in nov 2015 and syllabus was not completed by that time in made easy.I gave mppsc state engineering services too, qualified prelims as well as mains (by the time of mains GATE result was not declared) didn’t attended it’s interview, again didn’t want to take a seat as I was already selected in IES. I know few people who were selected in IES still gave that interview just for the sake of boasting that they have secured a rank here too. Wasting life and time of a serious candidate.I got AIR 97 in GATE 2016, I didn’t believed it when I saw my result.I was ecstasic, put a status in fb :P . I opened fb after 9 months. Deactivated fb few days later. Got selected in bpcl, ntpc, iocl and ongc. I avoided giving too many interviews, i do have 14 interview call letters in my home and I attended only 4 and converted them all. You might think that I took 3 jobs, but let me tell you I got selected in bpcl earlier but I knew about the attrition rate there, so I gave ntpc, iocl and ongc interview. And no one is sure if he will get selected in a particular company. Air 97 (two guys can have same air), air 92 were rejected by ntpc. Air 41,45 were rejected by ongc and air 92,161(obc) was rejected by iocl. Bpcl even rejected air 7, air 14,air 28. So it comes to your calibre in the interviews. I gave my IES interview on 15th sep 2016 and joined ntpc. Then on 29th nov 2016 around 8 pm, i got a message that congrats for your selection in ies, I was ecstasic, I wanted to check my result on my own and was angry initially, but after listening to the news anger went away. I locked myself into my room, as he didn’t mentioned my rank, I checked from the top found my name against AIR 62. I was not happy with that though, but was happy that I got selected atleast. Called my mom and dad they were very happy, I am the first one in my family to clear any UPSC exam. My mom and dad were very happy and I was happy for them. I got my name published in the newspaper, gave credits to my mom :-). She is the only reason for whatever I have achieved in my life. I called all my friends they were asking for a party. One of my friend said send a message to my ex boss. Initially I was reluctant but I did sent him a message and told him Sir I got selected in UPSC IES with AIR 62. It is all because of you thanks for harassing me otherwise I wouldn’t have left the job. There were few more stuff which I said and I won’t like to mention that here :P. I was feeling relieved after sending him a message :P . He blocked me maybe now it was his turn to be scared :P. Today I am very happy with whatever I have achieved in my life.I have written a very long answer. It took me 3–4 hours and 5 sittings to finish it off. Please pardon my grammatical mistakes, though I will edit it, but your help will be appreciated. This answer is for all the students who feel demotivated, let me tell you guys you can do wonders, all you need to do is identify the power inside you, you are like a lion, you should be fearless. There is always light at the end of a tunnel. It’s not about how hard you fall,it is always about how hard you come back. There is no shortcut for success. You have to work hard but once you do so you will be rewarded may be not today, may be tomorrow, maybe day after tomorrow but keep working hard. Have faith in your abilities. God helps those who help themselves. Forget about everything for a year (11 months). I removed fb, whatsapp and all other apps on 26th june 2015. I used to cut all my friend’s call. I used email for communicating limiting it to 2–3 friends and 2–3 mails daily at the maximum. You reap what you sow. So arise awake and not stop until the goal is reached. Watch videos of mateusz M. Give your best shot you should not have any regrets in life.PS - I hope you reach this far in my answer :P. I am sorry to write such a long answer I wrote it in the flow. May God bless you all and you achieve your goals :-). I know my answer went off the track. I just wanted to differentiate between two extremes of a job. And I want to say once again “Money doesn’t matter in life what matters is whether you are happy or not”, If money mattered then Gaurav agrawal sir (CSE’13 AIR 1)would have been working in singapore in citibank, Ira madam (CSE’14 AIR 1)would have been working with nestle, Saikanth varma sir would have been working with google (CSE’14 AIR 18), Sudhanshu yadav sir(IFOS’13 AIR 42)would have been working in IOCL and I would have been working with ONGC :P (jokes apart). Do what you enjoy because only that will give you satisfaction. Challenge yourself daily, strech yourself, make your own boundaries and one day you will reach Zenith. All the best :-).
How important is it to replace your cabin air filter each year?
It is important to replace your cabin air filter. How often should you replace the cabin air filter for your vehicles? It depends. At the very least, the cabin air filter should be replaced once a year. Before we completely answer this question, better to know some about cabin air filters. Reading the following, you will know:What is a cabin air filter?Located on most vehicles behind the glove compartment since 2000, the cabin air filter is responsible for filtering the air that enters the cabin of the vehicle through the heating and AC (air conditioning) system. The device is crucial to maintaining healthy air quality in the car because it filters out dust, bugs, pollution, pollen, and other substances. Over time, the car air filter will inevitably blockage, which will affect the car air quality. What does the cabin air filter do in a car?Your car's cabin air filter has a very important job to do. It purifies the air entering the vehicle through heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. It traps dust, pollen and other substances in the air, ensuring that passengers breathe clean air, which is especially helpful for people with allergies or other breathing problems. The cabin air filter works just like the air filter in your home heating and air-conditioning system, filtering out all harmful substances. A dirty, clogged cabin filter will fail to capture those allergens, dirt and dust in the air, causing you to breathe dirtier air than outside. This is certainly not healthy for anyone, especially those with environmental allergies and asthma. If you are concerned about your health and the health of your passengers, it is important to change the cabin air filters. When you're driving, the exhaust from the car in front of you, along with pollen and other harmful substances, is pulled into your car, just like you're driving in a tunnel. And because you're in a fairly compact, enclosed space, the concentration of these things might be six to ten times higher than what's outside. Why do we need a cabin filter? How important is the cabin air filter in a car?For the sake of our health, this would be a quick and easy answer. Because in the past, cars sent air into the cabin through a fan but did not filter the air inside. Even after the first air-conditioned car appeared, the air remained unfiltered.Until the late 1990s, various studies showed that passengers driving in crowded cities were more susceptible to air and dust pollution, and the number of drivers dying from lung disease was increasing. This is the birth of the pollen filter, which is the only barrier between the external air we breathe and the internal air we breathe. What is the role of an air filter? It's called a pollen filter, and you could say this filter keeps pollen from getting into the car. But more than that. Because this filter is very important, especially in dusty cities, it filters and retains everything that goes into the air inlet, near the windscreen, or near the wiper.Because big cities are not entirely clean, you will probably find dust, dust, pollen, scales, plants, dry leaves, insects, and so on. This is not without its benefits. If you travel to a small mountain town in Switzerland, the pollen filter is always clean. On the contrary, in a polluted city, when you make a change, you will find it full, loaded like a Christmas tree. What is the difference between a cabin air filter vs an air filter? There isn’t a huge difference between the two vehicle filters. The engine’s air filter ensures clean air gets to the engine. Whereas, the cabin air filter prevents any dirty air from entering the vehicle which, in turn, protects you and your passengers from pollutants and allergens.Where is the cabin air filter located?Where the cabin air filter is located determines how easy it is to replace. If it is located behind the dashboard, gaining access may be more difficult than if it is located in the engine compartment. You can find out more by reading the owner’s manual for your vehicle.Types of car cabin air filtersExternal cabin filters & Internal cabin filtersCabin filters are of several types, either by positioning in the car or by the material from which they are composed. First of all, we need to know that there are external and internal cabin filters. That is filters that are replaced by the inside of the car, usually under the glove box or behind the central console with the air heater and external filters, which we replace outside the cabin, under the engine hood.Simple pollen filtersAnd the other classification is made of simple pollen filters, usually from a hybrid textile plus paper and filters with carbon inserts, to eliminate unpleasant odors. Due to carbon, pathogens and bacteria have much lower chances of penetrating the filter. Why is it important to change your cabin air filter?Do I really need to replace the cabin air filter? When replacing cabin air filters, we can see that the cabin filters were filled with different things, completely different from the pollen or dust we expected. Some of the filters are filled with bones, fruit, food scraps and so on.In some cases, the animals even died there, unable to leave the cramped quarters. When we travel in dusty cities, when we don't wash our cars often, the dangers of cabin filters become apparent. Dust is deposited on the filter surface, no longer allowing free airflow. If you don't wash the car often, leaves and dust mix, forming mud at the bottom of the windshield and eventually reaching the filter. In addition to leaves, soot from diesel engines, other garbage and some ash from friendly neighbors' Windows, there is also moisture from rain, which forms a nasty smell on filters and quickly becomes moldy.Replacing many such filters in service, we saw cabin filters filled with different things, totally different from the pollen or dust we expected. There were some filters full of bones, fruit, food scraps and so on.Thus you can know that it is definitely necessary to replace cabin air filters for your cars. Can cabin air filters cause a bad smell? The answer is positive.Of course, when you turn on the air conditioner in your car, you can sometimes feel a bad smell. But the smell isn't dangerous, and only mold spores reach our lungs through filters. Illnesses are not uncommon, especially allergies, because we breathe in air filled with mold and bacteria. The downside is that children are most vulnerable to polluted air, and if we drive a car with a pollen filter, we risk harming them. Will a dirty cabin filter affect AC (air conditioning)?Yes, it will. A loaded and dirty cabin air filter is responsible for a bad AC operation. Depending on how clogged the cabin air filters are, airflow may be significantly reduced and affect the functioning of the air conditioning system. Why should I change the cabin air filter? The vehicle's cabin air filter needs to be replaced regularly. A dirty, clogged cabin filter would fail to capture allergens, dirt and dust in the air. That means people in cars are breathing air filled with all kinds of environmental pollutants. In addition, the performance of your vehicle's heating and air conditioning systems can be affected when cabin filters are blocked. Remember, high-quality cabin air filters allow you to breathe easily. The quality of the filter is equally important. Therefore, it is also important to choose a good quality cabin air filter when you decide to replace your cabin air filter.Changing your cabin air filters can make a big difference in the performance of your car. Here are some top reasons:What problems can a dirty cabin air filter cause?① PollutionPollution is the most common cause of frequent changes in cabin air filters. Because filters are basically all that blocks the air outside the road and inside the car, they can block a lot of smoke and dirty exhaust from other vehicles on the road. Changing your air filters regularly will help ensure that these unwanted pollutants don't get into your car's cabin.② DebrisBranches and leaves seem unlikely to be found in your cabin air filters -- these are larger objects that many people don't think get sucked into the filters. However, many drivers find their air filters clogged with leaves, branches, acorns and other natural debris, especially if they park in areas with lots of trees or bushes. These can have a huge impact on your air system and need to be removed.③ The AllergenIn addition to pollutants and debris, in-car air filters significantly reduce the amounts of allergens that enter the vehicle. Without air filters, it's easy for pollen to get into your car, and the less you change the filters, the more pollen accumulates, which can lead to more pollen getting into your car.In your cabin air filters, allergen accumulation is more common in states with plenty of pollen seasons, especially areas with lots of oak trees. No matter where you live, it's important to change your air filters so you don't have to deal with any allergens that get into your car.④ Reduce the efficiencyWhen your cabin air filters get clogged, your air conditioner has to work hard to push cold air through the filters. This can lead to noise or ineffective air-conditioning systems. In the hot summer months, this can be a huge pain. If your air filters are full of debris and dust, your cabin will take longer to cool.⑤ Engine StrainBecause your air conditioner or heater has to work harder to cool or heat your cabin, your engine has to work harder to drive these systems. Surprisingly, clogged filters can actually affect your fuel efficiency because your engine has to pay more energy.Benefits of changing cabin air filtersA cabin air filter that isn’t well maintained can make your driving experience unpleasant, and sometimes, unhealthy for both you and your passengers. Here are some of the reasons why regularly changing your cabin air filters after every year:Better comfort and less odor - Eliminate odors caused by mold build-up on the filterWhen you change the cabin air filters, you'll immediately notice the difference between your driving comfort and the efficiency of your defrosting, heating, and cooling systems. A new cabin air filter will also keep the interior clean and eliminate any odor.① Quieter AC system - Optimal airflow to the HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systemIf your cabin's air filters are full of harmful debris, this usually means your air conditioner will have to work harder to expel warm or cool air. The result is too much noise, making your journey more stressful and uncomfortable.② Significantly reduces safety and visibility problemsCleaning your air filter can really improve your vehicle when it comes to defrosting any fog from your Windows. This is especially important because every driver needs to see clearly and accurately through the windshield and the middle and rearview mirrors before departure, so unblocking the cabin filters is crucial.③ Keep cabin air fresh and free from harmful contaminants④ Ensure quiet operation of the interior blower fan⑤ Reduce the amount of dust and dirt in the cabinWhat if you don’t change your cabin air filter enough? If you don't change the air filters in the cabin regularly, the danger is everywhere. Here are some of the risks associated with dirty cabin air filters:① Health problemsA fully functional cabin air filter is essential to keep the pollutants inside the vehicle. Air filters in cars that are dirty or clogged cannot filter out these contaminants, which can cause problems for people with allergies or breathing difficulties. A good rule of thumb is to change your cabin's air filters every February, before the spring allergy season, especially if you live in a neighborhood with lots of trees. A new cabin air filter will stop pollen from getting into the car, causing people in the car to start sneezing or worse.② The HVAC system will not operate normallyCabin air filters that remain in place beyond their service life can make it more difficult for a vehicle's HVAC system to work, causing the engine to burn. Dirty or blocked cabin air filters will reduce the amount of air coming out of vents. This affects the air temperature in the cabin, which depends on the steady flow of air through the heater core, the evaporator, or both. Not replacing the cabin air filters will make your HVAC system more difficult to operate.③ Window fog cleaning ability is poorWhen airflow is affected, another problem is that windows cannot be cleaned quickly. In addition, air quality was reduced due to changes in cockpit air filters, resulting in condensation on the windshield. Once the cabin air filters have been changed, the fog on the windshield will be reduced.④ Foul odorsNo, the horrible smell from your exhaust is not from the place you've just driven past. That's because you didn't replace the air filters in the cabin. Dirty or overly clogged cabin air filters can produce a musty, dusty smell, especially when the HVAC system is on. Changing the air filters in the cabin regularly will ensure that your passengers don't have to roll down their windows in the dead of winter to get fresh air.How often should I replace the cabin air filter? After reading the importance of replacing your cabin air filter, you may now be asking, “How often should I replace the cabin air filter?” Here we go.How do you check a cabin air filter? You can refer to your owner’s manual to know the signs that tell you when your car’s cabin air filter needs to be replaced. In addition, knowing signs as follows also helps you to know if your cabin air filter needs changing.① The airflow reduces or becomes weak, even when the heat or air conditioner is set to high.② A whistling sound comes from the cabin air intake ducts.③ Musty, unpleasant odors come through the air in your vehicle.④ Excessive noise happens when the heating or cooling system is running.⑤ Dust increasingly settles on vehicle surfaces. When should the cabin filter be changed? The frequency for changing the cabin air filters depends on the area in which you live. If you have to drive on dirt roads, you may have to replace the filters more often. Even if the revision of a car is done at a certain interval, and if you live in a crowded area and full of dust and dirt, the change of this filter should be done much more often, without having to wait for the cabin filter to change when you change the engine oil. Most automotive manufacturers recommend replacing the cabin air filter every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. At the very least, the cabin air filter should be replaced once a year. The time period for replacing your cabin air filter is also dependent on the make, model, and year of your vehicle, so you may need to check your owner’s manual for verification. You may also notice any of the above-mentioned signs. When you notice one of these, it’s a pretty good indication that it’s time to have your cabin air filter replaced. Is it better to change cabin air filters in winter?A survey of maintenance issues found that 49% of cabin air purifiers were sold in the spring. Increasing the amount of pollen, coupled with the benefits cabin air filters offer to allergy sufferers, makes it relatively easy to sell. However, one might argue that winter is a more important season for changing your car's filters. There are three main reasons to change cabin air filters in winter:① Increase particulate emissionsWhen the car is idle on a cold winter morning, the exhaust exhausts harmful gases that are harmful to the driver's respiratory system. The most damaging component of tailpipe emissions is particulates. Particulate matter from cars, ranging in diameter from 2 to 10 microns, can exacerbate lung pollution when inhaled.Particulate emissions from vehicle exhaust are higher when engines are kept at low temperatures. According to a study of light-vehicle emissions in Kansas City, scientists have found that particulate emissions increase exponentially as temperatures drop. In fact, the study found that particulate emissions doubled for every 20 degrees Fahrenheit that temperatures dropped. The only thing that stops exhaust fumes from getting into the car is the in-car air filter. Some cabin air filters can even block particles as small as 1 micron in diameter.② Performance of the deicing deviceIn winter, the benefits of cleaning air filters are obvious. A blockage in the cabin air filter can limit the defroster's performance, making it difficult to see out of the windshield. If the cabin air filter is blocked, it creates a limit that reduces the amount of hot air that the blower can deliver to the windshield, reducing visibility and increasing the time it takes for Windows to thaw.③ Summer and fall can be cruel to cabin air filtersAfter months of battling pollen, dust, leaves, bugs and other debris, winter is the perfect time to start over with your cabin's air filters. The debris accumulates and limits the flow of air through the filter, causing heating and cooling problems. With no leaves, pollen or bugs to contend with over the next few months, changing the cabin air filters in winter would immediately solve the heating problem and help prevent cooling problems as soon as spring rolls arrive. Can we clean or wash the cabin air filter and reuse it?We could clean the old cabin filter to save some money. But it's not worth it because of its low price, a new filter is always cleaner than a "cleaned" filter. The washability of the cabin air filter depends on its material. In general, it is not suggested to wash it.How much does it cost to replace your cabin air filter? The cost and labor of changing a cabin air filter depend on several factors, including the manufacture and model of the car, and the accessibility of the air filter housing.Cabin air filters are neither expensive nor easy to replace. It costs between $15 and $50.If you're willing to leave this task to a professional, thankfully, it won't cost you much to replace the cabin air filters, with extras and labor costing anywhere from $40 to $100.If you can successfully replace it yourself, you can save at least $50 in labor costs.Cabin Air Filter Changing GuideHow to change a cabin air filter by yourself?Changing the cabin air filter is the easiest compared to changing the other filters of your vehicle, including the oil filter, fuel filter and engine air filter. Of course, you are better to check your owner’s manual to find the cabin air filter guide. The following instructions are applied to the cabin air filter located behind the glove box. The specific location might be beneath the dashboard, usually on the passenger side. Without any tools, just open a small door panel to remove the filter under the dashboard. The filter located under the hood may require the removal of additional components. To get close to them, you may need to remove a cowl vent louver housing, windshield wiper blade, washing machine bottle or other items. Check out your owner’s manual for details.Estimate time: 15 minutesSupplies: New Cabin Air FilterTools: a spare rag, a vacuum cleaner, a set of screwdrivers, some goggles and a breathing maskStep 1: Make sure the safetyPark your car on flat, dry surface and make sure the brakes are on. In some cases, you may need a screwdriver or socket, but most installations can be done by hand.Sometimes the filter can be dirty, so you may need to wear safety gloves and goggles, or even cover the passenger side floor mat with a layer to prevent dust or debris from falling out when you remove the old filter.Step 2: Get to the old cabin air filterOpen and remove glove boxes frequently to access cabin air filters. The owner’s manual should contain detailed information about removal. This may require a screwdriver, or simply press one or both labels. Some vehicles can be entered without removing the glove box, but others can be entered into the cabin air filter from under the hood. The owner's manual or maintenance guide will have detailed information on the location and movement for your vehicle.Step 3: Open the glove boxIf you need to take out the glove box, you must be careful. First, open the glove box and take out the contents. Then remove the limit stop arm on the right side of the glove box. Slide it off the pin.Next up is to release the glove box.Grab the front and back of the glove box and squeeze each other until the side clips open. Now that both sides are free, you can lower the entire glove box so that you can see the faceplate into the cabin air filter passage.Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filterLift the latches on the side of the faceplate and slide it the way to open the filter compartment. Now you can simply take out the old cabin air filter and be careful not to put any dust, dirt and garbage from the filter into your car. When you remove the old filter, pay attention to the location of the old filter, such as the direction of the arrow. They indicate the direction of the flow.Step 5: Clean the filtration chamber and check for seals and gasketsBefore you install a new, new cabin air filter, vacuum the filter chamber and then wipe it with a damp cloth to remove any impurities. Check the condition of gaskets and seals to make sure they do not need to be replaced.Step 6: Install new cabin air filtersMake sure the new cabin air filters match the old ones. Airflow direction is usually indicated by the arrow on the filter. Check again to make sure the arrow on the new filter points in the same direction as the old filter you took out, and then slide the new filter.Step 7: Replace and secure glove boxesOnce the strainer is in place, simply replace the faceplate, put the glove box back in place, reinstall the limit valve, and put everything back in the glove box.Important Tips for replacing cabin air filters:① The car owner’s manual will confirm that you have a cabin air filter and its location. For some vehicles, the manual may refer to the filter as a "micro cabin air filter," or even an "air conditioning" or a "dust filter."② There are two types of cabin air filters to consider - particulate filters and odor/particulate combination filters.③ Professionals can help you choose the right filter for your vehicle.④ Record the date and mileage every time you change the cabin air filter, so you know when it's time to change.

Like a Social Security number for your car, a vehicle's VIN number provides important information, such as the location of its original build and the type of engine. As of 1981 all vehicles have a VIN with 17 characters.A VIN can normally be found:Beneath the windshield on the driver's side of the vehicle. In the engine bay on the firewall. On a sticker or metal plate on the driver's side doorjamb. If you are still unable to locate your VIN number, there are other locations on the interior and exterior of a vehicle that you should be able to locate.Breaking Down a VINEach of a VIN's 17 characters designates unique information about your vehicle. Here's what the numbers and letters will tell you:Understanding a VIN Check's ValueAside from revealing basic information such as the make and model of a vehicle, a VIN lookup is helpful for a couple different reasons and scenarios:A vehicle identification number check is commonly used by law enforcement to identify vehicle theft or fraud. For consumers, a VIN check helps reveal additional information on a vehicle's history when you're shopping for a used car. This is also referred to as a vehicle history report.Ordering a vehicle history report will provide information concerning:The number of owners a vehicle has had.Odometer readings and rollback alerts.Liens placed on a vehicle.Title and accident history, such as flooded or salvaged titles.“Lemon" determination. This information found on a VIN number lookup can be used to determine if you a purchasing vehicle from an honest seller and if a used car is worth the listing price. How to Avoid VIN FraudOne way that dishonest or unethical sellers can get around information provided by a VIN check or VIN lookup is to alter a vehicle's VIN number. The most common method is through VIN cloning, which involves taking license plates or VIN numbers from registered vehicles and placing them on stolen property. The stolen VINs can be used to change or forge title documents and alter the car's actual history before sale.Fortunately, there are measures you can take to avoid fraud or other scams. These include:Buying from a dealership with a good reputation.Searching used car listings that:Have buy-back guarantees.List only pre-checked vehicles.Checking the VINs on the car to make sure each number matches the vehicle title.Making sure to examine each VIN carefully for signs of tampering.Getting a vehicle history report, which provides clone alerts for suspect vehicles.Whether you're buying a used vehicle for yourself or a loved one, a vehicle history report is a valuable way to peer into your potential automobile's past and prevent the purchase of an unsafe or unsavory vehicle. If you're not familiar with the term, a vehicle history report, also known as a VIN check or VIN lookup, is a summary of valuable details that include:Title information.Accident history.Fire or flood damage.Other potential hidden problems.By using your the unique vehicle identification number (VIN) associated with that automobile, you can access vital car history details on a VIN number lookup. How VIN Check Information Is CollectedVehicle history reports are a compilation of public- and private-record information. VIN lookup vendors access data from a number of sources, including:State motor vehicle title agencies.Car manufacturers.Repair shops.Junk or salvage yards.Auto recyclers.Insurance companies. The bulk of information collected by VIN check vendors typically comes directly from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) operated by the U.S. Department of Justice. The businesses and organizations mentioned above report their information to the NMVTIS.Details on a VIN Lookup[1]You can expect NMVTIS-approved VIN number lookup to include the following:Title information, including:Current state of title/registration.Previous title history. This information sheds light on a car's ownership and protects consumers from purchasing a stolen vehicle.Odometer reading. This helps prevent fraud and protects customers from buying a car for more than it's actually worth.Brand history. These descriptive labels relate to the status of a car (i.e. junk, salvage, flood damaged, etc.) and are applied by state motor vehicle titling agencies.Total loss historyThis term is usually given to a car after severe damage. Knowing the total loss history can protect you from a vehicle that may be unsafe.Salvage history. This indicates the car was repaired after severe damage, which can also prevent the purchase of a potentially unsafe vehicle. While the NMVTIS reports are thorough, a more detailed car history report from another vendor may include:Vehicle repair and maintenance history.Open recalls.Information on multiple owners. The Cost of a VIN CheckIt's important to keep in mind that VIN number checks are not issued by any government agency, so they can range in both price and details. Some VIN lookup vendors offer basic information on free VIN checks, or free vehicle history reports, that could be useful before you dive deep into the specifics of your potential vehicle—such as a free “lemon" check to find out if there were any manufacturer buybacks or lemon records on the car.For recalls, lemon information, and other broad car history details about a particular make or model, you can always search online or check car manufacturers' websites.Initiated by an automaker or required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a recall is issued when a vehicle:Is found to have a safety-related defect.ORDoesn't meet federal safety standards any longer. When a recall occurs, it will be associated with the vehicle identification numbers (VINs) of all affected registered vehicles. You can use your VIN to find out whether your car or other vehicle falls under the recall, and what your next steps are to have the problem repaired.VIN Recall InformationWhile most registered car owners will receive recall information by mail, this may not always be the case. If you hear a report of a recall for your vehicle's make and model, you should be proactive and run a VIN search.By running a VIN search on your vehicle, you will be made aware of:Current recalls issued for your vehicle. All safety recalls for your vehicle over the past 15 years.Any recalls that are incomplete.Note that a VIN search may NOT include information for your car such as:Non-safety related recalls.Recalls on international vehicles.Recently announced recalls.Recalls older than 15 years.Running a VIN SearchWhether you want more information regarding a recent vehicle recall, or you just want to check if a recall on your car exists, conducting a VIN search will get you up to date. The NHTSA provides a VIN lookup service to help you find relevant recall information.Other options to search recall information with your VIN include:Visiting your manufacturer's website.Get the NHTSA mobile app with the recall VIN alert.Sign up for NHTSA e-mail alerts.Obtain a vehicle history report (VHR) on your vehicle or a vehicle you're interested in purchasing.Getting Your Vehicle RepairedAny dealership that sells your vehicle make and model can make necessary repairs due to a recall. Be sure to call the dealership ahead of time and have your VIN number ready. You should not be charged for any repairs made because of a safety recall.Be prepared to wait. It may take several weeks to receive the parts needed for your vehicle's maintenance, due to the volume of other drivers getting the same repairs.Footnotes[1] What a VIN Check Reveals | Online VIN Lookup | DMV.ORGThere are quite a few reasonably-priced options when it comes to vehicle history reports. These include VinAudit - Official Site, and VinCheck Pro to name a few.FreeA free report can be obtained from the National Insurance Crime Bureau. However, I’d only recommend using this resource to determine if the car you’re interested in has been stolen or salvaged. It definitely doesn’t give the complete history but it’s a good starting point and a reliable free resource.Another free governmental resource is the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS). The NMVTIS is run by the Federal Department of Justice and contains title information from all insurance carriers, auto recyclers, junkyards, and salvage yards in the US. Rather than a vehicle history report, the NMVTIS website provides a list of certified third-party companies that provide free and inexpensive vehicle history reports.VinCheckThe best free vehicle history report can be obtained from VinCheck(full disclosure, I work for the company). We’re new to the vehicle history industry and pride ourselves on offering the most comprehensive free VIN report for almost any car, truck, or motorcycle in the US. Like many of our paid competitors, we use the NMVTIS as well as information from countless Law Enforcement Agencies, junkyards, insurance companies, salvage yards, and more to build our comprehensive reports.A typical report will include everything you need to know about your prospective vehicle, such as:Basic info: year, make, model, mileage, etc.Odometer RecordsPrevious Vehicle Uses and IncidentsJunk / Salvage / Insurance RecordsTheft RecordsLien / Impound / Export RecordsSalvage Auction RecordsSales RecordsAccident RecordsTitle Records (including information on flood, fire, and hail damage, etc.)While CarFax and other competitors offer reports for a substantial cost, VinCheck’s reports are 100% free and unlimited. Buying a car is already expensive enough, so why spend more than you need to on a quality VIN report.Additional StepsIt’s important to note that no vehicle history report is completely comprehensive (not even the most expensive options). Running a VIN check is a vital step in the purchasing process along with a test drive and a vehicle inspection. For example, if repair work from an accident has been self-financed rather than run through insurance, it will likely not show on a VIN report. The best way to get a comprehensive view of the state of your prospective vehicle is to use both a VIN reporting service, as well as hiring an independent mechanic to examine it before you purchase the car. When shopping for your next vehicle, you naturally want to discover everything you can about its history. While the dealership or individual in possession of the car or truck you're considering can provide much of the information you need, such as what type of maintenance or repairs have been done throughout the years, you can't be completely assured of the accuracy of what they provide. Also, in the case of a vehicle with multiple previous owners, the last person to drive it may not even be able to answer all of the questions you have. This doesn't mean you should simply accept limited information at face value or give up on discovering any unknowns about your potential purchase. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of that car or truck is the key to unlocking a wealth of information from police reports to specifications. While it's true that many investigative searches by the VIN come with a price tag attached, you may be surprised at how much you can discover absolutely free.Part 1 of 5: How to read a VINPart of the reason the VIN can reveal so much information about a vehicle is because it’s the unique identifier of that particular car or truck. This ensures there is no mistake that what the number reveals applies solely to that vehicle and no other. What a lot of people don't realize, however, is that the number itself is quite revealing about specific details. Each number and letter of the VIN corresponds to a particular piece of information that may be helpful in making a purchase decision. The types of data on the VIN include where the vehicle was built and assembled, its model year, and the size of its engine. Refer to the chart below for a detailed breakdown of what each of a VIN's parts means. There are four main ways you can get a free VIN check, and each method targets a slightly different kind of information. Consequently, we suggest you use all four instead of a single means. You can make the best purchasing decisions when armed with the most knowledge about the vehicle you're interesting in buying.Ask the dealer or individual owner to write down the VIN on a piece of paper and conduct your research online before making any commitments. Don't let anyone pressure you into a purchase before you’re ready because there are plenty of other vehicles on the market. Take the time you need to feel sure about such a major decision, and don't hesitate to contact one of our technicians for advice.Part 2 of 5: Get Informed on vehicle specificationsRemember how every number and letter on the VIN corresponds with a particular piece of background about that vehicle? Since you can't be expected to remember what every little bit means, there is a free website that breaks all of that information down for you.Step 1: Go to the Vin Checker website in your browser.Step 2: Fill out the necessary information. Enter the VIN number of the vehicle you are researching and your zip code into the designated text boxes.Step 3: Review the report. Push the “Check Your VIN” button to reveal the vehicle's specifications, including fuel efficiency, NHTSA, and IIHS crash test ratings. Although there will be an option to purchase a more detailed report, the information you gain from this free search can be quite useful in making a purchase decision.Part 3 of 5: Ensure the title is free and clearThe last thing you want to do is get involved in purchasing stolen property or the complicated title history of a vehicle, especially when there is no shortage of cars and trucks with clean titles for sale. That's why it’s a good idea to rule out any chance that your potential purchase is less than on the up-and-up.Step 1: Visit the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) website. The National Insurance Crime (NICB) is a non-profit organization committed to combating insurance fraud and related crime. It partners with various law enforcement agencies and casualty insurance companies to achieve this purpose.Step 2: Use VINCheck on the vehicle. Select the VINCheck option under the Theft and Fraud Awareness menu.Step 3: Examine the vehicle's report. Enter the VIN, check the box to agree to the NICB's terms of use, and enter the displayed verification code, then push the Search button. This reveals if the vehicle in question has a current theft report or outstanding title brand.Warning: The NICB does not reveal if there is an outstanding lien, but you can check for that information with your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).Part 4 of 5: Make sure the vehicle isn’t part of a recallFew people consider the possibility that the vehicle that has caught their eye may have had a serious issue that resulted in a safety recall from the manufacturer. While most issues that merit a recall are quickly located and fixed, a few vehicles slip under the radar due to the changing of hands or locations. If you're like most people, you probably think a vehicle identification number (VIN) is just a series of random characters. Actually, each characters in this highly structured code has its own meaning. In fact, deciphering these codes is a hobby for some car enthusiasts, including collectors who want to own one of the first or last cars to come off an assembly line. When you're considering purchasing a pre-owned vehicle, it's always a good idea to obtain a vehicle history report (VHR) or VIN check. Knowing how to read the VIN could help you make an informed decision before you buy.Decoding a Sample VINThe infographic below provides a simplified look at a sample VIN. Keep in mind that vehicles manufactured before 1981 might have fewer characters than today's standard VIN of 17 charactersModel Year & Country CodesModel Year Character CodesAs shown above, the 10th character of the VIN indicates its model year.A: 1980 or 2010B: 1981 or 2011C: 1982 or 2012D: 1983 or 2013E: 1984 or 2014F: 1985 or 2015G: 1986 or 2016H: 1987 or 2017J: 1988K: 1989L: 1990M: 1991N: 1992P: 1993R: 1994S: 1995T: 1996V: 1997W: 1998X: 1999Y: 20001: 20012: 20023: 20034: 20045: 20056: 20067: 20078: 20089: 2009Country of Origin Character CodesThe 1st character in a car's vehicle identification number indicates the country in which it was manufactured. Some of the country codes include:1, 4, 5: United States2: Canada3A-37: MexicoJ: JapanVF-VR: France9: BrazilWA-W0: West GermanyS: Great BritainOk. That's all and good luck to you!A completely fee VIN check report lists title changes, theft and now flood damage on a used car. This is helpful in deciding whether or not to purchase a car. It is really free, and there is no credit card require. It is helpful in doing an initial screen on any used car, before you purchase a used car history report.I recommend you this site VIN Check or VinLOOKUP that is a good alternative to Carfax, and is one of the best sites to get a complete and detailed vehicle history report online. The information comes from a database that is collated by the NICB. The information in this database comes from insurance companies who report thefts, flood damage and other claims that relate to the information in your final reportThe decoder will usually tell you the make, model, year, type of restraint system, body style, engine and the assembly plant. This information is useful, as it provides important information about the vehicle. As an example, the seller might tell you that it's a 2004 Ford Taurus. But the VIN check might tell you that it is in fact a 2003 model. So you'll know right away that this is not a deal you should proceed with, as the seller is not being truthful about the vehicle. If they are not being honest about the model itself, you can bet they won't be revealing any hidden problems. So the free vehicle history report (VinLOOKUP) is in essence the free decoding of the VIN to tell you exactly what type of car you are considering. If you want to find out more information, as most buyers do, such as hidden mechanical issues, odometer problems, mileage, fire damage, etc. then you need to order a complete report.Carfax alternatives are useful tools for anyone in the business of buying a car; they give you history reports including other reports which help ensure that you are getting value for the amount of money you have to spend. This service ensures that you do not get a sour deal as you can know everything about your vehicle up front. The services are free excepting if you require a more detailed report or you are not buying from a car dealership.Where to find the VIN:A VIN decoder report from VIN Check Pro provides an entire database of information regarding your prospective car from government sources, including the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, state DMV, police records, and more than 40 million junk, salvage, and insurance records, including:Accident history recordsJunk, salvage, and total loss titlesStructural damage historyAny commercial taxi useOwnership and lease historyAny police use or recordsTheft history checkVehicle specificationsMore than 60 vehicle problem categoriesEnvironmental friendliness scoreOdometer estimatesRecallsSafety ratingsAccurate and More AffordableWhile Carfax reports are $39.99 for one report or $59.99 for five reports, VIN Check Pro is a much more affordable and accurate option at only $9.95 for one report and $15.95 for five reports. If you need a VIN lookup, VIN Check Pro is a smart stop in your research and for your pocketbook. Click here to visit the official website. While everyone else lists all these other services I’ll just cut to the chase for you- You cant be guaranteed youll ever know a cars history. The most sure fire method for me to date is to physically inspect the vehicle yourself (If you are a professional) or hire a professional. You will know more about the vehicle after that inspection than from any history report.Remember this key differentiation: A history report shows you whats been reported, an inspector tells you what they find. Carfax doesn’t look for anything, they just pump out what comes in.Google for local vehicle inspectors before you buy anything used. You WILL spend more, but you will get the truth about the vehicle as it is today which could actually save you much much more in the end.I will be writing more on the car buying process at Autohitch shortly. Oddly as big of a problem as this is much of the content on it is outdated and the stuff that isnt is skewed by people hitting you with a contact form.According to my understanding, CarFax and similar services rely on information provided to them by third parties including insurance companies, service, and repair shop, etc. However, neither CarFax nor any similar service can guarantee the completeness of their databases for many reasons, including:• accidents handled without insurance,• deliberate distortion of data on the part of the owner/sellerI believe that this is not the fault of CarFax, other similar companies or data providers but an inevitable drawback of any reporting system which can be manipulated on the part of people submitting the reports. Thus my idea is to use CarFax report as a useful tool to have a preliminary outline on a vehicle as a part of your due diligence -especially to get the information on number of previous owners, liens, flood-damage, etc. and other major issues - but in no case I would rely on it (or any of its competitors) as a single source of information. For the moment I am not aware that any other companies are in any respect better than CarFax or provide more comprehensive reports so I can not answer directly to your question. If by public, you mean free, then no. Experian owns a competitor to Carfax called Autocheck. The auto finance company where I work uses both Carfax and Autocheck. As others have mentioned, if you want basic information like whether or not a title is branded as salvage or flood damaged, then there are free sites provided by the government. Experian and Autocheck, on the other hand, are database aggregators. They compile their information from several sources including DMVs, insurance companies, police agencies, and even repair shops. You're not going to find anyone doing what they do, for free; which is why auto dealers and finance companies subscribe to their services. If its India you can take the car owner and go to the nearest authorized service station of that model. They have online records of all their cars. At least the service histories from day 1.If this is not available, then the car is a stolen one. This report is critical as it shows what the service engineer has recommended to be done on that car. Example, replace brake shoes. Then look at the work done receipt. (same place). If the brake shoes are not replaced within 2 services, then the car has been badly maintained.Obviously a true car enthusiast will not have anything to do with service stations. He will get it serviced and repaired independently. This is good. As long as he can produce all bills and receipts of the preceding years. You don’t want to buy a used car without checking out its history, which can let you know if it’s been in an accident or suffered major damage. Often, the vehicle history report can even give you important clues about how well it was maintained. I once made the mistake of forgoing a vehicle history when buying a cheap truck from a neighbor and wound up with a rebuilt rust bucket that ran for just 3000 miles before dying.CarFax is the gold standard for vehicle history reports, and while almost every dealership will give you a copy for free, it can get expensive if you have to pay for the reports—as much as $39.99 each! (You can also buy three reports for $79.99 or five for $99.99.) That’s money well spent before making a big investment, but it’s a lot to pay if you’re just trying to weed out bad cars before you waste much time with them. Experian’s AutoCheck is significantly cheaper than CarFax at $24.99 for a single report or $49.99 for 25 reports, but Edmunds reports that CarFax is worth the extra money.I recently replaced our SUV, and I found a few free vehicle history tools that saved me a small fortune in CarFax fees by letting me eliminate lemons before I got too far into the process. There are a lot of scammy Web sites that claim to help with car buying, but here are three that are legitimate and useful.Free Vehicle History ServicesFirst, to use any of these services, you must know the car’s vehicle identification number (VIN). Unfortunately, there is no single standard for this, but in the United States, it’s a 17-digit number found on the driver-side dash near the windshield. Auto dealers should provide the VIN in the vehicle’s online listing (and offer a free CarFax or AutoCheck report as well). If a private listing doesn’t feature the VIN, ask the seller.I’ll start with the most basic: the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s free VINCheck, which is limited to telling you if the vehicle is stolen or has a salvage title, which implies that it was in an accident so severe that it’s not worth repairing. Simply enter the VIN to receive the simple report.A more full-featured vehicle report comes from iSeeCars, which focuses on pricing information—enter the VIN, and it’ll figure out the make, model, and year. At the top of the report, it shows the estimated market value of the car and how long vehicles like it take to sell. Scroll down to see comparisons with similar vehicles for sale, depreciation, and even the best times to buy.My favorite of these free services is Vehicle History because it’s the most like CarFax and AutoCheck. You have to click through a few screens before receiving results, but the results are quite detailed. For instance, Vehicle History was able to tell me that a minivan I was looking at had been in a minor accident. I didn’t end up buying that minivan, but the report helped me lower the price (not enough, though). However, after comparing Vehicle History’s reports to those produced by CarFax, I’ve found that Vehicle History’s reports have a lot of gaps. For instance, the above report doesn’t include buyer history, which I’ve found to be valuable. As much as Vehicle History’s reports are useful for weeding out obvious lemons, you’ll want to use CarFax for cars that pass these early tests. How to Shop for Used Cars OnlineIf you or someone you know needs to buy a used car, here’s my suggested workflow for sorting them out online:Pick a handful of models in the category that you want. I wanted a reliable family hauler, so I winnowed my search down to a handful of models: the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna minivans and the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander SUVs. There’s nothing wrong with being particular, but the more flexible you are, the more likely that you’ll find a good deal.Search for vehicles on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Cars.com. We ended up finding our car through a Facebook group—most areas have local trading groups on Facebook, which can be a great resource.Gather a number of potential vehicles. An orderly approach would involve a spreadsheet or an app like DEVONthink, but I’ll confess to just having a browser window full of tabs.Look over the pictures and details carefully, and eliminate any that seem substandard. When you look at a bunch at a time, you get a good feel for the market prices in your area, but you can always check Kelley Blue Book if you’re unsure.Once you narrow your list of candidates, it’s time to start looking at vehicle histories. I usually start with Vehicle History, and if that all looks good, I’ll look at VINCheck to make sure it’s not stolen, and then iSeeCars to see how well it’s priced. Finally, it’s time to move on to CarFax.When to pay for a CarFax report is a tricky question. If the car is being sold by a dealer that offers a free CarFax or AutoCheck report on their Web site, I’ll look at that at the same time as the others. Private sellers often don’t offer such amenities, so you have to choose whether to pay for a report before or after you take a test drive. I prefer to hold off until after, because I want time to mull it over anyway, and I often find deal-breakers when I inspect a car in person that no amount of Internet research could reveal, like damaged upholstery, bad smells, and rust.Doing this, I found that one report can often reveal something not shown in others, so it’s worth checking all of them before you take the plunge. What to Look For in Vehicle History ReportsI’m not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV, and there are no hard and fast rules here, but here are a few things I always look for in these reports:Accidents, obviously. An accident won’t necessarily be a deal-killer, but it’s definitely a negotiating tool.Salvage or rebuilt titles (a rebuilt title denotes a car that was totaled and then repaired). I avoid both, but some people swear by salvage title cars.Number of previous owners. Some people will tell you to pass on any car with more than two owners. I tend to focus instead on the length of ownership. If the car has had four owners, and the last two each owned it for less than a year, that’s a sign that there’s something seriously wrong with the car.Cross-country moves. In the north, older cars tend to have rust problems, but in hotter southern parts of the country, rubber gaskets and seals may have dried out. Neither is necessarily an issue, but both are worth checking if the car has moved from a different part of the country.Tred suggests a few more things to look for, but you shouldn’t be overly reliant on any vehicle history report, since they don’t reveal all the problems that an experienced mechanic can spot.Finishing Your Research in the Real WorldAfter checking the vehicle’s history, you’re ready for a test drive and, ideally, some mechanical advice. Automotive Web sites will always tell you to pay for a mechanic’s inspection. That’s good advice, but not always possible, especially if you found a particularly good deal that people will be fighting over. I used to write for an automotive Web site and would advise people to walk away from such high-pressure situations, but if I’d followed my own advice, I wouldn’t have been able to buy our most recent car.Regardless, one of the smartest moves you can make is developing a good relationship with a mechanic in advance so you can get their advice or have them inspect the car before purchase. I’m lucky enough to know three, and when we were looking at the car we finally bought, they all told me to go buy it before someone else snapped it up. That turned out to be good advice because by the time we got to the dealership another family was trying to buy the car out from under us.Finally, the most important step is test-driving the car. I could talk a lot more about that, and many already have, so I’ll leave it to them (Scotty Kilmer is always fun to watch). I’ll say this much: you want to test every feature of the car, drive it at highway speed, check under the car before and after for leaks (understand that the air conditioner drains water under the car—that probably isn’t a leak), and check for major rust. You don’t usually have to be a trained mechanic to tell if a car is a lemon. But keep in mind that every used car comes with a set of trade-offs, and you need to be honest with yourself about what you’re willing to put up with. And never forget that entropy is real. There will always be some existing problems—our car needed new dome lights, a cabin filter, floor mats, and some headrests—but there are almost always more expenditures around the corner. Thanks to this process, we skipped a lot of potential headaches and wound up with a reasonably priced Honda Pilot with a single owner and a thorough service history. I quickly fixed all the minor problems, and we’ve had several thousand trouble-free miles since. Thanks
