Is ß still used in German? My German teacher told me they no longer use it, and have 'ss' instead, so I wanted to confirm the validity of that statement.I am German so I think I am qualified to answer this question. Your teacher is wrong. “ß” is still in use. This year even a capital version was introduced. They were all given 3 meals a day and were seen by a doctor if needed.By 1944, more units were given orders to shoot all SS personnel on sight, regardless if they surrendered or not.The Malmedy Massacre was among one of the massacres committed by the SS. This one was messed up.2 American units were captured by the 1st Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS (LSSAH) in 1944. All the American PoW were lined up in rows, and searched. Soon after, they all opened fire at them.The SS started to shoot the survivors while laughing, according the Americans that survived. 84 were dead. The rest of the survivors either played dead or got away by running into the woods.The survivors reached the closest American unit. From there, almost instantly, many units were given orders to straight up kill all SS personnel on sight.Other units were designated with finding the 1st SS Panzer Division that was responsible. They were caught at the end of the war, but mostly were given a slap on the hand as the massacre wasn’t well documented and that the order came from Hitler.By 1944, many soldiers already knew what the SS was doing. Killing POWs, raiding villages, etc.It was different for the Wehrmacht. The Wehrmacht would not be shot on sight. But the problem is some were.Wehrmacht Panzer crews were sometimes shot on sight because they were mistaken as the SS. They had black uniforms and skulls on their collar tabs. They were thought to be SS uniforms, and so were killed.The SS tried taking advantage of the Wehrmacht because they knew they would not be killed or charged if their captors didn’t know they were the SS. And so, after the war, many SS officers tried escaping justice by wearing Wehrmacht uniforms. Most were recognized by former laborers and prosecuted. The most famous one that got away was Josef Mengele. He wore a Wehrmacht uniform and was captured by American soldiers. They were unaware he was an SS doctor until the state issued a bounty for his capture.

SS Allgemeine UniformMany people may agree with me that these were the most coolest and most creative uniforms of all time.DISCLAIMER: I do not support the SS' beliefs and actions.But you have to hand it to Nazi Germany. Besides weapons, they had the greatest uniforms in history.SS officers would have a black cap. A skull (Totenkopf) on the front to drive fear into their opponents, and the eagle on the very top.(Parade Uniform) All black top with decorations that just go with the black color. And a red sleeve which, in case you didn't know, sported the swastika.Ranks that go on the collar. The left one is the branch insignia, which is 2 lightning bolts which represented the SS. The right one was was the rank. This one is Rottenfuhrer which is equivalent to Corporal.The helmets used by the SS which, on the right side, showed the branch insignia (SS).And the left side, which showed the swastika.Hands down, coolest helmet ever.
