While not mysterious or extremely interesting, I found a book stashed through a hole in the sheetrock in the garage. While I first expected some do-it--it yourself home maintenance manual, I was a bit surprised to find a book entitled The One Hour Orgasm.Unfortunately, my wife wasn't interested.

Comparing Airbus with Boeing is probably the equivalent of comparing Mercedes with BMW. But I don’t know much about cars. So I’ll stick to comparing airplanes.The significant differences:Airbus is a European multinational aerospace corporation, Boeing is an American company.Airbus uses side stick to manoeuver but Boeing still uses yoke.The shape of the nose and the windshield.Location of some components that would take me days to list out.(Left: Airbus A320, Right: Boeing 737)Annoying differences:They have different names for similar systems and equipments. Trust me it’s annoying (especially for avionics mechanics) that you have to remember both names. Simple example is: EICAS and ECAM. I still have to think hard which is for which.Boeing uses normal Phillips* screw that you can screw in with your typical screwdriver, but Airbus uses offsets screws, therefore, you need to have an extra offset bit. If you still want to unscrew an offset screw using the typical philip screw drivers, than you better go home because you my friend, are screwed. You’ll ruin it (rounded) and it will probably take hours to take them out.One thing I like to note though: You have no idea how grateful I am that both of them decided to use imperial measurement for spanners. Funny story, this one time I was fixing my dad’s bike with him, and here in Malaysia, most household tools uses the metric system, when he asked me for spanner no.10, I froze. Aviation made metric system an alien to me.Offset screw.EDITI’ve collected information from the comment section which I think worth adding to this post.Different in design philosophy is that Boeing build aircraft around the pilot while Airbus are more automated.In the cockpit, Airbus uses lights out policy, if one of the light comes on, either a system is active or there’s an issue. Boeing continuously show display of multiple gauges.The nose (radome) of the aircraft varies between aircraft series.Its not Phillips screw but a Pozidrive. It has some differences to it. But still, you are allowed to use philips bit (eg: PH2,PH3) and typical screw drivers. The name for the offset screws are Mortorq and Torq-setOne I like to add is that Boeing Maintenance Manual are detail and friendly while Airbus AMM are much straight forward.

You need to understand from bottom of your heart that we all are dogs running after cars, one after the another. There is no goal where you can say this is enough ,I ll be perpetually happy/content now.You will say IES and people will assume IAS. You will end up explaining about IES exam from the scratch. It's not often people know about it. And the reaction will be awkward..Whenever random people will introduce themselves to me, I automatically assume they need to get their tickets confirmed. People will talk to you when they need reservations. Yes, your neighbors,their relatives and relatives friends. You will have to say no! You don't have this power,at least not as much as people assume.Night Inspections: They are killing me,seriously! 2 night station inspections, 8 loco footplates, including 2 night footplate, station amenities night inspection and many more. Did I tell you night means 12:00 to 4:00 am ? AND we thought we ll be able to sleep once we get a job? Liars!!Not to mention control calls at night, where you are supposed to be all alert,all knowing, able to make quick right decisions with almost no experience. Just because you clear a exam you don't become an expert.Learning doesn't stops when you get appointment letter. In fact it begins there. The trouble starts here. You have read service,maintenance manuals of 10 types of locomotives that have undergone several modifications over the years. Add to that administrative rules, varies reports, previous actions taken etc etc. And we thought no more books.You absolutely have no control over your postings and transfers. You will be away from your family and friends. You can't choose the type of posting you want to work at. You might not understand lingua franca, still you are supposed to command people who are more experienced then you'll ever will be. That’s another point.Official parties: When I joined I was in awe of these grand social gatherings. But with time I have realized you just have to put a mask and socialise with people whom you won't even talk to if they weren't in same organisation. You have to follow a protocol, which doesn't treats people as people but by their designation. I am not uttering a word about Officer's big egos and their entitled families, there is a reason for it.There are 10's of reasons why people leave the job. I'll be lying if i say i haven't contemplated it. Imagine having no control over your own promotions? No choice about where to live? No choice about where you want to work? No choice about with what people you want to work? Shifting homes in every 5 years? The stress of running trains 24*7, 7 days a week? You can never sleep peacefully without wondering about about your phone.I don't think i can suggest anything to the aspirants. To each on his own. In fact no body can. Its your journey your life to figure it out.On a lighter note, we all are Po of Kung Fu panda who saw the dream of being a dragon warrior. Little did he know the challenges which lie ahead and so do we.
