There have actually been a few disgusting things that I have seen at my school, but this one was probably the weirdest and the grossest.So I went to school with this one boy up until a couple years ago. He was kind of the oddball in our class and he always just kind of came off as weird, because he had done so many gross or weird things. He seemed to always smell stinky and had this putrid smell that people would talk about. He picked his nose and always wiped his endless amounts of snot onto his thermal shirt sleeves. Let’s just call him Edmond.One day, we were in a math class. Keep in mind that this was in sixth grade. The teacher had just finished taking attendance and while everyone was getting their school materials out and ready to go, the teacher was just greeting everyone and asking how their day was.A couple minutes after, the teacher finally started class and he passed out math worksheets and went back to his desk to put a copy of the worksheet under one of those projectors so that we could work through the problems together. The class was just peacefully going along with the problems on the projector and answering questions.Since it was mid Winter where we live, it started to become really cold. Edmond started wearing this huge and bright green winter coat to class. Even though we weren’t supposed to wear coats like that to class, for safety reasons and whatnot, he still wore it to class and for some reason never got told to put it away. He never really was big on school, and always got bad grades because he never paid attention. So, while we were working on this worksheet, he was sitting in the back of the classroom with his hands in his pockets.The whole class didn’t really pay much attention to him, mostly because he isn’t someone that people would really hang out with. So no one really saw what he was doing. But the thing he had in his pockets were those handwarmers. Those things that you would shake and rub and they would become very warm. People buy these when it’s really cold and put them in the pockets of their jackets and pants so they don’t get cold. Usually skiers buy these a lot. Here is what one looks like:Believe it or not, this kid literally decided that he was bored enough to EAT an actual handwarmer. He had bit into it and ended up eating the stuff that was inside of it as well. Nobody in the class found out that he ate it until he got up and started blubbering in the middle of the classroom. No one could make out what he was doing or what happened because he tends to do things like that. But then he threw up so much stuff right on the floor of the classroom. Everyone screamed in disgust as they plugged their nose because of the smell.It took a while for our teacher to figure out why he threw up, but then he saw the handwarmer in his hand was ripped and opened, and that in his vomit there were little pieces and particles of the inside of the handwarmer. It had smelled so bad, and our teacher was pissed off and in a bad mood for the rest of the day. The poor janitor came in to clean up his vomit and Edmond was sent to the nurse’s office. We had the rest of our class in another classroom but ended up not having to finish or do any of the work, because our teacher was not in the mood. I don’t know what ever happened to him, but he moved after that school year.So, that was probably one of the most disgusting things I have experienced in school so far. I told my students that I hate homework more than they do and stopped giving it. A couple of students requested it so I told them to google “such and such worksheets”, find one, do it on the computer and submit it through Edmodo.When we actually have work that we've run out of time to do, I tell them to finish it on the bus, or in the morning before they're allowed to get up and play, or when they've finished their lunch but aren't allowed up to play yet (we're primary school), or when they finish other work early, or when they have lunch detention, or any other scrap time.I thought some parents might get angry at me, but they all seem to be down with it.It's at this moment that I realise I may be a bad teacher!
