We lost money on all the others. Due to the need to completely replace ALL the plumbing in one house, we lost over $25,000 on that one in a single year.

My husband and I were landlords for over 20 years. We’ve heard every reason why the rent was not paid. On one occasion, we were in the area and decided to drop by to collect the late payment. We embarrassed our tenants. They had a huge RV parked outside the house and the previous month the wife also told us the rent would be late. Then they got in their RV and went on vacation. The husband had no idea his wife kept paying the rent late.A lot of renters don’t know or don’t care that we also have to pay the mortgage for these rentals. Some of them had lost homes for not paying their own mortgage.I had one tenant who was building his own home. I had to call and nicely ask when we could expect the rent payment every month. We had a dinner on them once a month for incurred late fees. (By the way, I hate calling people to ask for money and I hate to call but when I did, I was firm but nice. ) After a while, you just pray they leave.We sold our rentals and want nothing to do with being a landlord again. If landlords didn’t have rentals, renters wouldn’t have a place to live. Think about that!

My wife and I enjoyed our wedding because it was low key. We did not want a big fancy wedding, and we were poor at the time. This how we saved money on our wedding.We silk screened our wedding invitations ourself, no printer fees.My wife is not into jewelry, and did not want an engagement ring. One of our wedding rings was bought at Sears and the other at a discount jewelry store.We had a pot luck lunch, our friends prepared dishes to share, no catering fees.We were married in my mother's rose garden no venue rental fees.We borrowed chairs from an organization my father belonged to, no chair rental fees.A friend of my parents took classes in making a wedding cake for their niece's wedding, they volunteered to make our wedding cake, no bakery fees.My cousin was a Catholic priest, he said he would officiate as a gift to us, no minister fees.We gave rolls of film to our friends to take photos, no photographer’s fees.My brother played the organ, no music fees.My wife used her dress that she graduated in from high school the year before. My mother made the dress. No wedding dress fees.The two things we paid for were Champagne and Champagne glasses rental.We spent less than $100 for our wedding. We, and all the guest had a wonderful time. Because it was so informal, there was nothing to stress about.I have no regrets, in fact, I look back on our wedding day with great fondness.I am beginning to think it may work out as we have been married for 45 years.One funny note, my mother made most of her clothing, but bought a dress for the wedding and some white shoes. My wife’s mother showed up in the same dress (different pattern) and the same shoes. They both thought it was funny.
