Yes.I’ve done two books with combinations of my Quora answers and other anecdotes. One is about politics and one is about teaching. Both were collaborations with other Quorans. Both are available on Amazon. The links are on my profile.I was working on a solo book on the other topics that I write about on Quora and people seem to like: Parenting and Husbanding. Of all of my answers, those are consistently the ones with the most upvotes and shares.But I encountered a problem over the summer, when I planned to do most of the work. Two problems, actually: I didn’t have as much time as I thought I would, and my laptop wouldn’t run the program I used to create the first two books.I was using Vellum, which is an e-book/real book creator for Mac. But I was using (and am still using) an older MacBook Air, with not enough memory to update my OS, and Vellum forced an update that required an updated OS.I paid $300 for the “make all the books I want” license for Vellum. I’m not purchasing another license for another book-making program.So I’m thinking of finally getting a new MacBook for Christmas, so I can keep working on my book. But that will depend upon the size of my classroom gift from my students. Every year, the room parents take up a collection and give it as a gift to the teacher. A new MacBook Air would be about $1,200 or so. I just can’t justify spending that much on myself for a vanity project like a compilation of Quora answers in book form. But, if I’m just using a cash gift that I was given to get myself something I want, then I’m not selfishly splurging… I’m re-gifting, to myself.Anyway, I’m also beginning to think that my Quora light is beginning to dim, along with the rest of Quora. I’m in denial, because this is the only place where I have an audience. But I think that the fact that I’m known on here for my political answers, and politics is more toxic than usual these days, has really soured a lot of people to my writing… people who may have supported my book-writing hobby in the past. There’s been a noticeable increase since the summer in the number of people I have to block because of their hateful comments on my posts. There’s just a lot of vitriol out there, and I try to fly above it.We’ll see how it all pans out.

The new weapon literally shredded the VietCong insurgents. The photos were classified until the 1980s. The US Special Forces (Green Beret) requested the M16 as its standard rifle in 1963. In the same year DefSec McNamarra ordered the production of the M14 to be ceased.The XM16E1 (with the forward assist) was produced in Mar 1964. In that same year the army switched powder suppliers. The clean burning Dupont IMR was replaced by the more powerful yet gunkier Olin-Winchester ball powder. The rifle with the new ammunition was issued to US Army & US Marine Corp infanty being deployed to Vietnam in 1965. Troops assigned to South Korea & West Germany used the M14. Then troops started dying.Parents of US servicemen began writing to Congress. Rep. Richard H. Ichord Jr. MO-D investigated & published the Ichord Committee Report in 1967. Which was very damning. There were many technical defects but the main deficiency was that the rifle was issued without a cleaning kit.In the same year the M16A1 was adopted. It had many improvements like a chromed chamber and bore. A cleaning kit was issued. And a Preventive Maintenance manual was included, in comic book form.In 1969 all M14 rifles were taken out of service.
