PDF Editor FAQ

Is it illegal for U.S. military planes to go super sonic and make the boom or is it just policy as a consideration for the local residents?

Short answer, No.Long answer, Still no. But with a caveat. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sets regulations relating to United States airspace. Current rules prohibit commercial airplanes from flying at supersonic speeds over land because of the noise levels associated with sonic booms and the negative impacts to humans and animals. However, Military jets are not “civil aircraft” and therefore aren’t covered by these rules, but they mostly follow FAA rules while in U.S. Airspace. There are, however, designated zones in the U.S. where military jets are allowed to travel at supersonic speeds mostly for training missions. These designated zones are usually over non-populated areas, such as the one just north of Los Angeles in the Southern California desert. Military jets have also flown over land at supersonic speeds during national emergencies or during national security incidents. The FFA reg that covers this is here.14 CFR § 91.817 - Civil aircraft sonic boom.§ 91.817 Civil aircraft*sonic boom.(a) No person may operate a civil aircraft in the United States at a true flight Mach number greater than 1 except in compliance with conditions and limitations in an authorization to exceed Mach 1 issued to the operator under appendix B of this part.(b) In addition, no person may operate a civil aircraft for which the maximum operating limit speed MM0 exceeds a Mach number of 1, to or from an airport in the United States, unless -(1) Information available to the flight crew includes flight limitations that ensure that flights entering or leaving the United States will not cause a sonic boom to reach the surface within the United States; and(2) The operator complies with the flight limitations prescribed in paragraph (b)(1) of this section or complies with conditions and limitations in an authorization to exceed Mach 1 issued under appendix B of this partSo no it is not illegal, they just mostly follow the rules in the USA for civilians. This just keeps people safe. There are zones far away from populated cities that are basically training ranges where they can do this without risking anyone.

Why are high school diploma jobs so terrible, and why do they give so little money?

Because a high school diploma is the minimum education expected of an adult. However, minimum education begets minimum skills. Minimum skills are worth minimum pay. Minimum pay brings minimum satisfaction. Too many young people mislead themselves into believing that once they have a high school diploma, they’re done with school. Bullshit! Life is school and you must learn every single day, lest you flunk life.As it is, high school no longer teaches job skills as it did with Home Economics or Industrial Arts courses. If you want to learn job skills these days, you have to join a club, like Future Farmers of America (FFA), 4-H, or Junior Achievement. No serious effort in the part of the schools anymore. Put it this way: I was repairing a stove at a home in a working-class neighborhood of San Diego, California some 15 years ago. The homeowner’s twin nephews came in, said hello, and sat at the dinner table as they told their uncle how they went looking for work that day and came back skunked. It hadn’t occurred to me to mention the career center on Imperial Avenue across Greenwood Memorial Park. But I mentioned the San Diego Community College District’s Continuing Education Division. I mentioned how it was a top-notch vocational-technical (Vo-Tech) school, how it had an auto mechanics school where they could commit six hours a day, five days a week for six months, and they would graduate as Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified mechanics, earning $20.00/hour, diploma in hand. I also told them how sweet the deal was, with tuition being minimal to none (I believe San Diego residents don’t pay tuition, but please verify if interested). I even told them that the books would be loaned to them if they qualified.Oh, why didn’t I jump at that opportunity? I’m more of a computer nerd. What was their reaction? They grumbled “school?!” and shook their heads. With me being so deadpan, I said to them: “Army’s recruiting”. Oh, boy! They jumped out of their seats like something bit them in the ass, and with eyes like saucers, they both shouted “no!” That’s when I said: “fine then, the Marines are looking for a few good men!” They turned pale. I kept it going. “Marine Boot Camp is right by the airport, walking distance from here!”I get my jollies playing devil to the unwary. So yes, you have to bite the bullet and humbly apply at your local vo-tech, community college, or career college, if you want to do more than flip burgers for minimum wage until you’re 65. Or else the military has outstanding vocational training for those who score high on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).Speaking of burger boys, I was in a contract at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Between base pay and the health and welfare benefit, it added up to $23.00 an hour. Not bad for someone who has a fresh Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Security+ certification, an associate degree, an interim security clearance, and three years of Information Technology background (mostly swapping old computers for new ones and field repairs). I’m just putting this out for comparison. One afternoon, I was at the “22 Area” McDonald’s, eating a spicy McChicken (I miss those) and drinking a small Sprite as I was overhearing how an employee who did most of the cleaning, and I hadn’t seen him work the kitchen much, was pleading to the manager to make him assistant manager. We know that he wanted the promotion because it meant better pay. Problem was that there were five assistant managers already, and a sixth would cut into the bottom line.Minimum wage, part-time, and groveling for a raise. And he was about my age, which makes it even more painful to write! I was suffering for him, for I know how it feels to be out of work or underemployed. I don’t wish this income uncertainty on anyone; as it wears you down horribly. Why couldn’t he reach for better? Were there any IT apprenticeships available in the Oceanside area? Were there better opportunities in town? There has to be something better than service jobs for a man of certain age.And this is why I’m urging you to learn career skills before it’s too late. Feel free to ask me, as I lose nothing, but win a colleague. Please ask me or other seasoned Quorans for career or education advice. Reply in the comments and let’s develop a dialogue.
