See if you can file a poverty affidavit and be allowed to avoid paying filing and service fees. But if there’s any way to pay for it, I think you should.

Some, if not all, courts permit you to file a poverty affidavit along with your case. It depends on how poor you are. In the courthouse where I practice most, you can file a new case for $195 plus a small additional fee to the sheriff to have the person you are suing served. If you can’t come up with that, or save that amount, or borrow it, then perhaps a poverty affidavit will work for you, but it isn’t much money to engage the court, the clerks, the judge, etc. in your situation. Court costs are typically low to allow everyone access.If you win your case, you can ask the court to assign the court costs to the other party. You can also call the legal aid offices in your area and see if they can help you with your case. If you can’t afford the court costs, you definitely can’t afford a typical attorney.
