PDF Editor FAQ

What is your salary? Are you happy with it?

I am 26 years old working as a Senior Software Engineer in the Hi-Tech City of India, Hyderabad. At present, I earn more than 100K monthly salary(can’t reveal the exact figure), which excludes my performance bonus and other incentives(the exact 6 digit figure doesn’t matter, rather the 2nd part of the question is what I want to talk about).Am I happy with it?YES!! I am happy and grateful for everything. A lot of people say money doesn’t bring happiness, I have a different perception of this. Money may not account for all the happiness but a significant portion of our life is dependent on it.I belong to a middle-class family from Kolkata (no I am not a Bengali guy). Living away from parents for the last 3 years has taught me a lot of stuff which will help me to lead my future life. Failed in class one, I couldn’t perform well in the 12th but qualified IIT-JEE with not a good rank. Settled with my state government college. From the very start, I wanted to be independent and not concern my family for the expenses so started teaching class 11 and 12th standard students for entrance exam who couldn’t afford to join the Coaching class as it was expensive. This gave a feeling of satisfaction, that I am contributing something good to someone, meanwhile keeping up with the college studies. Few students made it to good colleges, which was my victory back then.I had the urge to explore and grab any opportunity coming around. Joined my 1st company in Noida ( Samsung R&D) just after graduating, learned the value of saving money and investing it wisely. Worked hard, grabbed the opportunity of business travel abroad in the very first year. After 2 years, I made a switch and got a handsome increment. Traveled to China thrice, was about to travel to London but then the virus broke out. These trips not only added to my technical skills but also helped me grow professionally and added to my personal growth. Why I am happy? My parents are indeed proud of me. This gives a sense and feeling of satisfaction that my job and success contribute to their happiness. Also, since it’s rare to have people in my culture or rather society to be not working in the family business, my work is something that they respect and acknowledge. Lately, with my savings, I managed to get a flat for them (although we have a decent house). My logic goes that someday, dad might stop working and this flat might just act as a constant source of monthly income. Currently, the rent amount goes to mom account and if god forbid, something bad happens to me, this flat might come in handy. So, you see, money is indeed important, it can’t be the source of perpetual happiness but it certainly gives a lot of hope and satisfaction (direct or indirect form).Yes, I am happy and willing to work harder.~~Nikhil

What is your review of Delhi Public School, Megacity, Kolkata?

Alright, you want an honest review? I'll give it to you.I joined DPS Megacity, Kolkata back in 2004, in the 7th standard. Mine was the first batch to ever graduate from the school. We had only two sections back then, and about 40 students in each. Every single teacher knew each of us by name. Even those who didn't teach us anything. The then Principal (the very first one) really cared for us. He was a bit out of it, but even he knew us all personally, and would make it a point to hijack some class just so he could talk to us.The first set of teachers were great. They were fun, they supported communication more than anything, and we never really felt scared or awkward around them at all. All except Pompi ma'am. Ah, she was brilliant. She was as strict as strict could be, but she was helpful, insightful and really witty. There was nothing that could get past Pompi ma'am. You'd just know when you crossed a line with her, because she would get that look in her eyes, and a tiny smile that said, “You and I both know you have screwed up.”Around our second year (class 8), the house system was introduced for the first time. Jal, Vaayu, Agni, Prithvi: I still remember, we were selected right in the middle of a class which no one could pay any attention to. Also, that very same year, our Principal left, leaving the comparatively new Vice Principal in charge. Mrs Sunita Sen. I believe I speak for every single batchmate of mine when I say this: she was the best thing to ever happen to us. For one thing, she was also our English Literature teacher, which meant she not only knew us outside of class, but also how each one of us fared in our studies. She was an exceptional teacher and an even better guide. The best part about her was that there was nothing you couldn't approach her with. Academic problem? Go for it. Problems with classmates? She's there. Teenage trouble? Just pour your heart out. The House system really came into the forefront around this time, what with individual House variety shows held every few months, that would fetch us House points.Towards the end of that year, she made arrangements for the two senior most batches to sign up for a mountaineering expedition. A big group of us, accompanied by four to six teachers, went to Samsing (near Shiliguri, WB) for a week. That trip was quite possibly the highlight of our school life, and warrants a separate answer in itself. We were promised that such a trip would be made an annual thing, as long as we promised to keep our report cards blemish-free. That was probably the best year we ever had. Then, the next academic session rolled in and after the first few uneventful months, things started to unravel real fast. None of us knew why (well, we knew much later) but Mrs Sen gave in her resignation right in the middle of the year. She was replaced by Mrs Indrani Sanyal as the Principal, who I believe still occupies that position. In quick succession, many of the best teachers that we had resigned, leaving us lurching only a couple of months before our 10th board year. All those teachers we had made excellent rapport with for the last 3 or so years, abandoned ship, and they were all replaced with a completely new set: Sharmila ma'am, Paromita ma'am, Joyeeta ma'am, Sanchita ma'am etc. The only one who connected us to the past few years was Pompi ma'am, and she instinctively knew how difficult it had suddenly become for us.After that, the atmosphere around the school changed drastically, and it never went back to what it was. The House variety shows were cancelled. Much of the extra-curricular competitions (inter-House debates, elocutions, GDs, poster making competitions) were cut down, as was the promised annual trekking expedition. The familiarity among students and teachers was gone, replaced by a sense of foreboding. We never connected with the new teachers like we did with the old ones, and that became a norm because attention was only focussed on our impending board exams, not classroom dynamics. The new Principal was an alienated figure— she never interacted actively with us, and we never felt the need to do so ourselves.Back then the 10th standard was the senior most year; there were no 11th and 12th. So once our boards were out of the way, it never really felt like a real goodbye (except with our fellow classmates and the one or two old teachers who remained to see us off). We graduated fairly inconspicuously, and our farewell too was quite impassioned, what with most of the staff not being really acquainted with us. That may well be a reason why, even at reunions, the people don't seem as familiar to us as the building itself. So you wanted a review? I believe the best years of my high school were in DPS Megacity, Kolkata. But the school we left was only merely a pale imitation of what it really used to be like once upon a time.
