As I understand it, Poaching is the illegal, unsanctioned killing of animals (usually rare) for reasons other than sustenance. For example, killing a deer for meat is hunting. Killing an elephant for Ivory is poaching. Or killing a shark just for the fin.What can be done about it? My first thought is to treat poachers as an international criminal organization. International assistance to bring them down would be required.Armed interdiction where the animals being poached live is step one. More importantly, though, is taking down the smuggling operations.
