It was one cold night with clock ticking around 9.30PM. I was out on my scooter, searching some thing in the local market (some daily need stuff). Almost all the shops were closed and the remainings were about to get closed. I was returning to my apartment, then I saw one very old man, with no shoes/slippers in his feet, rugged clothes, and hardly able to walk.Being very emotional, I get highly sentimental by seeing someone in such conditions. I watched him as he settles himself somehow on the stairs of a closed shop. I went after him, though I was little afraid to offer help as I was alone and no one was there on the road (that was colony road) I asked him if he wants to eat something.He couldn’t understand, as I was asking in Hindi. May be he doesn’t know Hindi. (I live in Bengaluru.) So I asked again using my hands if he wants to eat something. He nodded in YES. And I ran my scooty the next moment asking him to be seated there (obviously acting my hands) and went in search of something to eat for him. Got one “pan-wala” shop open as most of the shops were closed. There I got biscuits and hot tea packed for him. And went back to see if he is still sitting there. I was relieved to see him sitting there and I poured hot tea in the disposal cup which I got from the shop, opened the biscuit packet and gave it to him. While he was having it, I thought that won’t be enough for him because if might be hungry from days. So I went again to find something. I got one sandwich shop nearly closing and I requested him to get me an sandwich, he denied saying shop is closed now and I narrated the scenario, he agreed and started preparing. Meanwhile I saw one fruit shop again about to get closed. I got half dozen banana from the shop and got the sandwich and then again went back to him. He was still there enjoying tea and biscuit.I opened the hot sandwich in front of him and asked him to eat, as I was worried if the sandwich gets cold it wont taste that much tasty to him. And gave him bananas too so that he can have them later.And started my scooter to come back home.For the last time when I asked him if he is OK now, He just raised his both hands in blessings and with a slight smile and satisfaction on his face. They worked hard, even me and my younger brother joined them soon for the work. I was in 2nd or 3rd standard I guess.Me and my brother grew up wearing my owner son’s clothings, I am so thankful to them. I heard that my owner’s son also completed engineering or equivalent. I feel so fortunate to have got the same education on my own.Started working at the age of 5, I literally did all the so-called “ODD” jobs. I knew at that time only that I had to study in english medium to study further, I requested my parents many times to switch me to English medium but they never agreed because of the fear that I might fail and they might have to pay fees once againMost of the days, Even though I was the topper, I had to stand out. That was the punishment because my parents did not pay the fees.Every year during final exam, I used to reach exam hall on time, but they used to send me back because we had to pay fees before the exam. My father never cared. My mom used to give whatever she had-excluding mangal sutra (Initially small gold ear rings, then silver anklets).I had scored around 98% in 7th. 100 out of 100 in Maths. I had solved many questions with two ways and verified answer for each answer.But when I reached SSLC. I had decided that I need to start earning soon so there is no point in studying more. That time in my place lorry drivers were paid the highest. So decide to become lorry Driver. So the marks dropped.I scored very less in the preparatory exam as I spent most of my time helping my mom and taking care of our cows. But fortunately one of my primary school teacher got to know about this and scolded me badly that - “The horse has become donkey know - Don’t show me your face”. But it was too late. Just around a month or two left for the exam. I did not prepared any notes. In fact we did not even had teacher for science. All my friends had studied through out the year, when I only worked. All my teachers and thought I would not be able to even pass the exam.But I had struggled through out my childhood. I was a warrior, not a survivor.I decided to study the whole text books, not the notes. prepared my time table. Sleep by 8PM empty stomach, so that I can get up early(Very little food as my mom used to scold if I don’t have food). Wake up by 2 in the morning. Study till 7. Work till 8, get ready and go to school.Remember the story I had said about my SSLC results? Awesome.I was the Only one to get FCD amongst 300 Students who appeared for Exam.Did not get seat to PUC / Diploma because of General Category.Studied diploma working part time.Can’t forget the shock I had when I saw all the books in plain English(I had studied Kannada medium till SSLC and only english had english as only one subjectMost of the guys who joined from Kannada medium left in the middle, being not able to finish.Even when I was studying my Diploma my mom would call every day and cry for all the difficulties, many times I thought of dropping out of college, work full time and support mom, instead. But I knew even if I would have dropped out, the salary I would earn would not be sufficient to pay at even the interest. So started working some more hard.Because I had been promising my mom, and the situation at home was getting worse, I had to get job YESTERDAY. But even after passing Diploma with FCD I did not get job. Thats when I started searching Call Centre(Voice and Non Voice) jobs also.Because of my poor communication skills I did not get call centre job. I felt very helpless. But when I look back, I see God denied me of call centre job because he wanted me to be an Entrepreneur / Software Engineer and much more.So changed the strategy, started learning Typing(Non-Voice this time). Cleared typing test and interview also, but kicked out of the interview because my High grades.Out of all the frustration, helplessness when I was searching I accidentally entered into a Job fair where majority of the jobs were for Call centre / restaurants. Again gave try for call centre, no luck this time also. So stumbled upon McD. They interviewed me and since I was ECE guy, took for the position of VIP(This is not what you are imagining, the guy VIP is responsible for maintaining all the equipments, lightings, diesel generator, Water purifier set up etc) - the role requires to work mostly during nights as it is maintenance job.Got the offer letter!! I felt more happy than when I received offer of 14 LPA recently. But the problem was that I did not have money to travel, and I did not have shoe, or the money to buy one. So again!! borrowed old shoes from a friend, one of the other friend lent me enough money to buy BMTC pass. Work started. Even though i did not like burger and it was very bad on my stomach, I did not have money to have food outside, I had to wait for my salary.Worked full time for McDonalds. Imagine a topper cleaning McDonald trash bins!! I worked hard and got promoted soon. Reached almost highest position one can reach in that particular vertical.Remember the story I said about how I have paid all the credit my parents took and when they came near my home and shouted? How much ever I worked hard - the loan was huge(In lacs), I was barely earning around 10k per month in hand. This is where again I used my brain extensively and started studying how the money works. Tried all the ways including Bank loan - rejected. and finally stumbled upon Cheeti concept. Its using that Idea I was able to pay in lacs without which I would not be able to at that time.I could not even imagined about engineering, as I was from general category. We need to pay in lacs even if we get govt seat. I was not in a position to tell anyone that I am planning engineering. My uncle, aunt, grand parents everyone said not to even dream of it as it is IMPOSSIBLE and getting into some more loan.when they said IMPOSSIBLE thats the time I strongly decided to do engineering. because from childhood I get interest in doing the things what people say impossible.Arranged enough money to pay Down Payment to study Eng(Yes! Bank will provide Education loan only after you get admission but in CET you need to pay to get a seat ).I took leave for study just before 3–4 days to CET, got all the text books xerox(It was 2 full 50kg rice bags). Met with an bike accident(Not extreme, but severe).Studied almost 20 hrs per day and wrote CET.From last one year I had not even touched book and pen, still I remember the struggle I did to write just a paragraph when I started studying for CET. I lost touch of holding pen. After an year I almost lost the touch of reading, in fact thats the only one year of my life I did not read more. My brain struggled to remember even a simple things(imagine about all the weird symbols we had in our syllabus), all technical topics had become aliens to me. First day I could not read anything, but I recovered soon, because I had to, there was no choice.Appeared for CET, got 1400 rank, but did not get good college because of General Category.Chosen decent college - I had just enough money to survive for 1 month, which I thought was sufficient to get bank loan.Banks did not provide loan because none of my parents were working for company, we did not have any property, any recommendations, they did not even have bank account.I still remember me throwing application paper on Bank managers face for speaking disrespectful to my dad.Thankfully my salary at McD got increased!My time table during BE8.30 AM to 4.30PM College6 PM to 6AM Job at McdGet mocked by lecturers because I used to fall asleep during the class.I still remember, sometimes I had no time to brush also after finishing work at McD, taking bath was a luxury. Thats where I got hooked onto Perfumes :)Could not get even a single First class, as I spent most of time on work. Feared I wont be able to get job because I don’t have first class.Due to all the night shifts, sleepless nights I got severely sick when I was in final semester. Got admitted to hospital for a week. Somehow recovered. But still I have those symptoms(IBS).Doctor suggested me not to do night shifts for at least next 6 months. So I took break for 6 months and did not have any other thing to do than studying.I could not believe when topper of my class called me on the result day and said “Macha you got one more marks than me”!!. So finally my average was 59.76. Without the last FCD it would be around 40–45%.Placements got over before the final semester exams, so was not eligible to sit for placements. seems like all hard work got wastedTried job, did not get any.joined software training institute, who promised to get job after the course and got highest rating in all the mock tests. But could not get job there also because of Percentage.Started job hunt - After many failures joined start up for 1.2 LPAFast-forward to today after 4 years.What I did to increase my salary more than 10 times ?Its about the VALUE.Same way as we think for value for money when buying things, companies also pay you salary based on the value you give them. The more the value you give, the more you get.I have learnt a lot, not limiting to my area of work.I have chosen IT, because it rewards learning.
