The first one was 8 yrs old, the second 5 years - as is the tradition in the family, the kids learn to ride bicycles at the age of 5.The father of the children was in a fix, he did not have money to buy another bicycle. To avoid a sibling fight in the family, he called his children into a room and said, "Dear children, I do not have the money to buy another cycle - so you will have to share the bicycle with each other - 49.5% (of time) for the younger one and 50.5% for the older one."This demotivated the elder child. He argued, "But father, I'm more qualified to make use of the cycle. So far I have been using the bicycle for 3 (000) years. I could buy vegetables from the market for the development of entire family, go to school, practice my soccer only because I have the bicycle. By giving the cycle time to the young one, you are not making 'efficient' use of the resources. He doesn't know how to ride a bicycle. He could drive the cycle into the road - endangering not only himself, but also others on the road. Once he shows he can cycle, I will not have any objection to sharing the cycle. But until then it is not right to provide cycle time to him. This is not fair"The wise father replied, "But son, I cannot afford to get another cycle - however hard I try. You have had a cycle for 100% of time for 3 years uninterrupted. How is it unfair that the younger one gets only 50% of the time ? We have to make-do with what we have during our difficult times with available resources. This is discriminatory reservations.This is the primary reason why the political, economic, educational power remains in the hands of the privileged castes. The current affirmative plan reverses this process by peaceful redistribution of opportunities to all. We need to have proportional reservations to reverse this process. This is non-discriminatory reservations.Where one caste and community get their rightful share of opportunities irrespective of the inequalities their communities faced in the past.Effects of discriminatory quotaDiscriminatory reservations are the primary reason for India’s colonization, poverty and illiteracy.India’s armies were weak simply because the caste system refused to teach skill of war to all Indians. India was invaded repeatedly from Alexander, Ghazni, Mongols and British. They all plundered India. Take Israel for example, has mandatory military training for all[1]. They are small country in a hostile neighborhood and no one messes with them. India had 300M people, there were 100K Britishers who ruled us in India. We could not defend our borders we were colonized.India’s scientific progress was poor during the time when education was limited to privileged castes. Europe educated all its people during the Renaissance movement. More people where educated and Europe flourished and progressed to dominate the world. Great civilizations like India and China became colonies. India became a den for quacks chanting mantra instead of scientific research.India’s economy collapsed in the rapid changes. Only now, a small part of the opportunities for education and jobs are given to underprivileged castes Indians.About 49.5% reserved for 69% of the population - which is less than proportional representation that too only in a small section of government jobs. Most of the jobs available in the country is unorganized sector - there is no reservation there.Brainwashing childrenChildren understand the unfairness of this intuitively. The understand the concept of taking turns. If one child gets all the toys for 3000 years, then it is the turn of the other child now. They have a better sense of justice when they get to know the facts about the caste system.However, children are often told many lies about the caste system. They are told that there is no caste system in India. They are told that all Indians go to same schools as themselves and are treated equally. It is important to recognize what is due to anti-Konkani sentiment and what is due to caste discrimination. Also action of fringe elements shouldn’t be generalized to all people.Konkanis have been living for hundreds of years in Coastal and Malnad Karnataka. There is no anti-Konkani sentiment in these two regions. I live in Shivamogga district and have never faced any hostility for speaking Konkani. Konkanis are not strangers in these parts and people know Konkanis is not some North Indian language.Until some 50–60 years ago, Konkanis didn’t move much into inland Karnataka. There were very little Konkanis in Bengaluru 100 years ago. Most of the Konkanis came from Coastal Karnataka in search of jobs from 1960s onwards. Many Bangaloreans and most Kannadigas from other regions of inland Karnataka still have little to no contact with Konkanis.There is a widespread perception in Karnataka that all Konkanis are Goud Saraswat Brahmins (GSBs). This is because most of the famous Konkanis in Karnataka are GSBs. Saraswats Brahmins are known for eating fish, a practice that isn’t followed by any Kannada Brahmins. Hence people think all Konkanis are GSBs and hence all of them are fish eaters.This often comes up as an annoyance to vegetarian Konkanis. But that is easily remedied by telling them that there are vegetarian Konkanis too.This assumption / misconception has often become troublesome while getting houses for rent.
