We all know how mobile apps have changed our life, things have become more simpler and convenient. Every industry is in transformation mode and construction industry is gearing up and ensuring proper utilization of technology in the best way it can. With my experience working with the construction industry, I have seen following major applications of mobile technology.1. Project information access - Whether you are on the field or travelling, now you don't have to wait to go back to your office to access the latest document/drawing. You just need to tap the mobile app and it will give you access to the entire project documentation i.e all drawings, specifications, quality manuals etc. You can also add your comments, redline drawings and raise RFI directly from the app. All project correspondences can be also viewed and replied right from the same application. You can capture events happening on site in form of diary, for e.g. you can record the work done by subcontractors on a particular day and mention details like no of labors used and hours spent. This information can be also sent to ERP or billing system for invoicing purposes. Weather updates and forecast details are also available to decide and plan the work ahead.2. Real-time progress updates - Mobile technology has given a platform for construction engineers and workers to update the actual work done in real-time. As the work gets completed, inspection engineers can record the observation and change the status of the work. How about if you want to know how many workers working today, what they are working at, what is the progress of my boiler foundation, whether the cement and steel pipes reached my store. All the information now available right from the mobile device and its intelligent enough to give you alerts and notification as the work gets completed or rescheduled. For example if their was planned delivery of material, you would be notified on the status whether it will reach on time or get late and based on that it will also suggest you to call your concerned plumber, electrician whose activity is linked with delivery. It will also help you reschedule the tasks and notify everyone instantly. Project managers can view overall construction schedule right on their tablet and can even create daily and hourly work plans which can be assigned to specific contractor or engineers. Once the work is completed, project progress information is automatically updated. This information goes directly to the planning tools like primavera and business intelligence tools where you can avail dashboards and reports. If all this is less, you can even have live video feed of different site locations to monitor the project.3. Process & Issue Management - RFI's, change orders, inspection requests, design reviews, approvals are some of the examples of processes which can have gone mobile. For example, if you have received inspection request from a subcontractor, using mobile you can easily acknowledge and create inspection action item, assign task to someone to fulfill the inspection. Inspection team can capture the issues and create punchlist items for the subcontractor. Once the work gets completed subcontractor can raise re-inspection request. While reinspecting, contractor can easily view all the punchlist item in 3D or just use the camera to identify the open item on the tablet. All this information is available centrally on cloud and can be accessed using any device.4. BIM - The 3D model of your project can be visualized using your mobile device. You can not only get information by navigating inside the model but also have access to all the documentation linked to the model assembly. Today technology is available where you can hold your tablet right on the field and BIM model will get superimposed on the tablet. So you can see combination of real world and virtual world to visualize and solve any design & construction issues.5. Asset Management - Managing asset information has never been easy. For e.g, to get information on any particular equipment, just scan the bar-code/ QR code of the equipment using mobile device and it will automatically pull all asset information on the screen. Even additional information like manufacturer details, date of installation, latest drawings, work order etc can be fetched. The information is intelligent enough to give an alert to the concerned when the repair or maintenance of the equipment is scheduled. Embedded sensors can help gather lot of information like the energy usage of a building, how a bridge flexes to accommodate the vibration and weight of trains and vehicles, how road surfaces withstand everyday traffic, if a high-rise building responds properly to seismic events, and many others.6. Ensuring Safety - Nothing is more important than ensuring safety of everyone on the site. Mobile devices can help in number of ways. For eg. If you are trying to enter heat chamber, based on your location it will pop up the safety instructions which you need to follow before you step inside. There are apps available which can give visual and sound alerts to everyone is case of any temperature changes, environment and climate shifts.With advancements in cloud, Internet of things and wearable technology, construction industry is under paradigm shift. Whether it is the owners, contractors, subcontractors or architects, everyone is making sure to use the modern technology to stay ahead and delivery the project on time, on budget and with quality.Do share your thoughts and comments below.

I do part time work in the field of mental health. I am seen as a patient because I do not have a college degree.I recently returned a phone call to a text message from Equality Health in Arizona. (602-560-3043) I was told this morning by Teresa who is a subcontractor to EH is that they have been in business since 2015.EH appears to be tied into a series of healthcare professionals that are tracking me. This morning allowing my agreement to policy of privacy and contacts for my finding work in the local area because of my reputation with the general public being insufficient income.An explanation of the actual occurrence as opposed to what the question asks is that subcontractor Teresa sent an email offering job contact and phone number with name of who would be contacting me for work including a release form. What I received in the email was simply the release form , an agreement to their terms of them sharing my private information. The above brightens the scope of me being watched and that’s not to my detriment of capabilities.update number one:In a subsequent phone call this morning it was decided that I was to receive a summary of my conversation with Teresa devolving pertinent information of my condition and experiences.Either in company programming or in the least ignorance on the part of Teresa not to her fault I am receiving the same authorization in different words slightly than what was previously sent to me meaning that summary of our conversation is not sent but a revised long addition called summary is being sent of my agreement to privacy being shared.In my next phone call to Equality Health I will be requesting to speak to an immediate supervisor of Tresa.Update number two: Apparently Teresa works in a small office because she is the only person that answers the phone when I call, that has been about 4 to 5 times now.After receiving a “secure email” that I was not able to read I requested again that Teresa send a printed copy to my home address that is on record. The secure email is a summary of a recorded phone conversation as is common where I divulged a series of events regarding my life and the lives of many others in questionable activities that were somewhat normal on my part.The secure email not being readable meant that the summary was also not readable by me where it was agreed I could make changes if I did not want that to be shared information in medical analysis of myself and so through snail mail I am waiting.Update number three:Received summary in mail of a rather generic composition. I am curious how inclusive their transcripts are of phone calls recorded for quality assurance. I actually enjoy unloading “stuff” on health workers because it feels somewhat incognito and they probably have some training in psychology.

Apple clearly focuses on this. But there are limits of what you can do. 100x improvement will never happen with any current battery technology for either charge speed or capacity.There are fundamental limits defined by chemistry and physics on how fast you can charge a battery - basically if you charge too quickly, the battery explodes like a grenade because the process of charging isn't 100% efficient so it releases heat. A lot of heat in the case of "high energy electrochemistries" like lithium batteries.The periodic table of elements from which you can pick new battery chemistries is largely "tapped out" in terms of raw electrochemical improvements. Most of the advances still made are physical nanotechnology changes that change surface-to-area ratios and improved manufacturing techniques that reduce wasted material use.Beyond that, you probably must abandon electrochemical technologies in the form of batteries completely. For example, use fuel cells which run on and must be refilled with a chemical fuel like alcohol or gasoline to "recharge" them. That changes the use model but at some point I expect that might become "the thing".Apple has created "conformal batteries" to increase the density (mass per unit volume, which in Apple's case focuses on putting the same mass into a smaller volume so they can shrink their product size) of existing battery technology. This is a big claim-to-fame with the newest Mac Book Air and is likely to be applied as well to iPhones and iPads.Apple also "makes its own chargers" which is precisely how you maximize the charging rate of a battery that is "on the edge of exploding": with precise, measure and monitored power supply design. Leaving it to a subcontractor or outsourced vendor is how you fail. You also adding charge monitoring/balancing circuitry of the battery cells to assure even charging and voltage leveling - one of many reasons why batteries are not replaceable. Failing to do this both slows charging and increases the risk of "unseemly charging events".Also central at Apple is "solving" fast charging by not needing to charge in the first place (it's so Zen I love it). This comes from all the power saving technologies that have been incorporated into iOS which start with the development tools for performance profiling app code written by developers in Xcode to APIs related as described in the Energy Efficiency and the User Experience guide. Basically design the code to use less energy in the first place! This is one of the key advantages of NOT splitting hardware and software responsibilities - you will always get further and better this way.This is where Samsung MUST fork Android code to maintain or achieve similar control. The problem is that then any requests or changes that might need OS level support have to filter back through several separate legal entities and their bureaucracies to standardize. Apple probably has the key people on each area already working side-by-side every day since they do both in the same company.(I don't work for Apple but I am an Apple product user (for >20 years) and I'm an experienced engineer who recognizes and sees what they are doing in their product design, and I like it. A lot.)
