There are basically two kinds of British pubs:Those that have been there foreverThose that haven’t.Those that have been there forever acquired their names because they needed something to distinguish themselves from other pubs in the days before satnav. So they would typically pick something distinctive that could easily be depicted on a sign for the hard of reading (of whom there were many in ye olden days). This gives you things like:Names related to who would go to the pub, so Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem was probably somewhere that people gathered en route to the CrusadesThe local landowner, such as The Devonshire Arms, The King’s Head, or a celebrity such as The Duke of Wellington, The Prince of Wales, The Marquis of Granby, The Wynkyn de Worde, or The Edgar WallaceCommon pastimes, giving you The Fox and Hounds and Dogget’s Coat and Badge (named for the prize in a rowing race between Thames watermen that is still contested today)Stuff that might have been near where the pub was, like The Cheshire Cheese or The Old Spotted HorseWhere the pub was located, like The Turl (on Turl Street in Oxford), The Old Shades or Woodin’s Shades (two genuine pubs at different ends of the City of London. Shades were traditionally tenement slums in which all manner of lowlifes hung out. Today, the Old Shades is on Whitehall, so maybe not much has changed)Imagery, often nicked from local myths, religion or coats of arms - The Red Lion, The Hand and Heart, The Lamb and Flag, The Eagle and Child (JRR Tolkein’s local, affectionately known as the Bird and Baby)Exciting newfangled things such as The Telegraph and The Railway.Pubs that haven’t been there forever are named more haphazardly, but generally the people doing the naming aim for something that sounds like the pub has been there forever. And frequently miss. Examples include:Pubs in the JD Wetherspoon chain have often inherited names from pubs that they took over, but the ones they’ve opened from new usually have a reference to the moon in their names - e.g. The Moon Under WaterRandom associations of objects like The Rat and Parrot and, later on the same site, The Rat and CarrotA reference to the building where the pub now stands. Following branch closures in the 80s and 90s there are a lot of pubs called The Old Bank or something similar, though my current favourite is The Temperance, located in an old Temperance Hall where Victorian workers would go to not drink of an evening.Irish pubs. It is a truth universally acknowledged that wherever one or more beer-serving hostelries are gathered together, one of them will be an “authentic” Irish pub with a name like O’something’sPuns of various wittiness. Most of them are dire, but I quite like the open air “pub” in the back of Harlequins’ South Stand at The Stoop Memorial Ground - The Quin’s Head.Basically, there are no naming rules. We are not like the French, who maintain a list of permissible baby names. You can call your pub whatever the heck you like, as long as you don’t rename a much loved ancient local watering hole.

Go on their site and complain. You get a number to monitor your complaint.But SBI being most idiotic and smart organisation, your complain (if at all attended, I repeat, if at all attended) will be forwarded to same branch. You may get a call from them. And immediately you will get a message that your complaint has been resolved. Branch managers are allowed to decide and close the complaints. So a thief is allowed to be a judge. Your issue will not be resolved, but you will get this sms. And SBI gets excellent MIS…Complain closed within 24 hours, clap , clap. You may get this closure sms even without a call from bank. Branch Manager will close your complain at his sweet will.I am a consumer activist also, so I can quote number of examples where they didn't respond to complaints.Nothing will work . You send Sms UNHAPPY. No response. Call centre? Half trained, cannot reply beyond few sentences. They too will ask you to visit branch. Who will pay for your time and petrol? This bunch of officers cannot do anything right first time. So they expect you to visit the branch again and again and beg. They are given conveyance allowance, but this does not mean that someone will visit you to sort out the issue or get a form filled.You may never get a call from Branch too. And at Branch they know only one line. COME TOMORROW or they will blame some other branch. These incompetents do not treat you as SBI customer, but they treat you a customer of XYZ branch. Hence evasive replies are common. These shirkers are a-plenty in all branches.They are given mobile allowance, perhaps for talking to their spouses only. It is not meant for contacting ordinary, honest customers.You complain to Ombudsman. It is all birds of same feather. But ombudsman, may be to a little extent, effective. Beyond this it is your luck.Their working is like that of state govt working. All perks and no responsibility.

There is no official news like this, but i expect that SBI will recruit because -Staffs for associate banks may take VRS. Many employees find it difficult to work under a new management and with change in certain processes. There will be staff transfers and changes in the portfolios. Thus, expected VRS will the staff requirement.Unless SBI is going to close some branches of the erstwhile Associate Banks, there is no extra staff. Closing a branch has many complications and banks will avoid closing profit making branches. As most of the branches of associate banks are old and are running in profit, branch closure/merger will be negligible.SBI group is growing and requirement of clerks will be there for customer service.
