Indonesia has approximately 270 million whereas Malaysia merely has 32.6 million. And the terrible fact is more than 55% of the population live in Java Island which the area is only 7% of the total area of Indonesia. Can imagine?. Logically, countries with less population could be more easy to manage it rather than countries with a high population unless they have a well-managed government system. I thought that Indonesia only wants to develop quantities, instead of qualities. First of all I would like to add that Human development Index is determined by Education Index (Literacy rate + Enrollment rate), Life expectancy Index (Life expectancy at birth) and Income Index (per capita income). It has nothing to do with sex ratio directly. But recent studies indicate that there is a direct correlation between increased literacy and decreased fertility. This link was demonstrated in study that covered 90% of India's population. In Kerala, female literacy is the highest. And at 1.65 children/women, it has one of the lowest fertility rates. Hence uncontrolled population growth which is the main reason behind the burden on social services, economy and health sector is avoided.These numbers speak themselves. The male- female literacy gap which was 21.92% in 1951 has narrowed down to 4.04% in 2011. Literacy (especially female literacy) was responsible for high rate of Utilization of public health care facilities. Social welfare programs hence got a wider effective area than many other states in India resulting into rise in educational level as well as it developed a social infrastructure which provided easy access to services (including health services). Kerala has demonstrated that good health can be attained at low cost with the help of better education.As far as economy is concerned, it has got an important boost by Kerala Gulf Boom. Nearly 30 lakh people from Kerala are employed abroad (mainly in gulf). Also Unemployment recently dropped from 19.1% in 2003 to 4.2% in 2011.As a result 2011 census shows Kerala's HDI to be 0.920, which is higher than that of most developed countries.
