How was your experience at the Surat Quora Meetup 16 held on 18th August, 2019?

This one might be a little biased, coming from the coordinator herself, so watch out for other answers as well! And since the devil lies in details, lazy bums can skip the long story to find Highlights at the end.It all began with Mr. Manish Kr. Shukla (a.k.a. MMS) showing his interest in coordinating a meetup, and having attended previous ones coordinated by him, I was more than curious to see how it works on his part; I immediately volunteered to team up. And that was followed by many little moments, I'd recall every now and then to smile n giggle. This meetup was certainly different than what we've had in the past, like for starters this was the first time a meetup was postponed; the first time we've had so many last minute cancellations (both informed and uninformed). Anyway, the brighter side of the picture is that with lesser audience, we got to have a good personal level interactions with everyone! So of course,The meetup was held at Swad Cooking Institute this time, and I'd like to thank Mr. Nemil Shah for helping us with venue scouting! It began with a small dialogue between MMS n me, to welcome the audience and give a quick sneak peek at the current events around the globe followed by a minute of silence in respect of the great personalities and the unsung heroes we lost this year.Up next was the most awaited part of the meetup as usual- introductions in an unusual manner. The coordinators this time were a huge meme Lovers, so what else could be expected of us! We had meme theme introductions or as our own MayMay bro- Mr. Meet Shah calls them, Memetroductions. People had to introduce themselves through memes handed over to them randomly. Oh, this did bring out some hilarious stories. I'd let the pictures do more talking about how it went.Following the introductions, we had the keynote speech. Well, the topic was chosen by MMS, and picking the right candidate for it was a hunt in itself. We had a new member, CA DINESH KOTHARI delivering an excellent presentation (or more of a discussion) on the subject of Retirement Planning. The session was an eye opener for everyone, and what amazed us the most was the perspective with which the speaker explained every bit of it. Many of the group members aren't well versed with the financial lingo, and Mr. Kothari managed to keep it simple for everyone to understand. This in itself must have been a challenge for him. There was a point where one of the members had a doubt about the difference between how SIPs work differently than Mutual Funds, and we suddenly witnessed Mr. Vignesh Mehalingam taking over the charge and surprising us with his insights on the subject and of course his humbleness! The presentation overall was a treat to watch, I especially liked how Mr. Kothari brought his hand written notes and displayed those, to keep things more simple, instead of tailor made PPTs with jargons. Kudos to the efforts put behind the whole presentation Mr. Kothari, we're glad to have you here. The keynote was followed by a little break, so people can get back into the zone, for what was coming up. Up next we had Mr. Vignesh Mehalingham enlightening the group about a current topic also a very sensitive one, Section 370 and article 15A.While finalizing the gigs for the meetup, MMS wanted someone to talk about this, and the first person we could think of, who can handle such a sensitive yet controversial topic in a sensible manner, was Mr. Mehalingham. He totally justified it. The detailed research he took on the subject took everyone in awe. He dug out so many facts and figures and of course not to forget, he legit mentioned them with dates! Massive respect to you sir. The way you did this, was brilliant.Following this, was a little monologue by none other than MMS (trust me, it's hard to not let him take over everyone and just go on talking!). And then, we had a small discussion (or more like a trip down the memory lane), to talk about Examination: Preparations and Facing them. It was supposed to be a gig initially, but our interactive audience, turned it into a discussion for good.I didn't actually sign up for this topic, since I wanted to give a small tutorial about "How to kidnap someone from hospital to make them appear an exam", but seems like the topic wasn't appropriate for occasion, so MMS convinced me otherwise (nonetheless, anyone interested in knowing about it, feel free to DM)! Since the meetup was initially planned to be held on 11th of August, I was quite pumped up, but it had to be postponed and meanwhile results for my CA Finals were announced, which made me doubt my suitability to talk about this.I'd sincerely like to give a shout out to MMS, for believing in me, when I was doubting my self worth! Thank you, for being a friend, we all deserve. Coming back to the gig, the topic was something I can talk about even without preparation (though I did prepare it this time). Here I'd like to enlist a few things that I talked about in my gig.And to know more, you can also watch the video to catch up with the whole discussion we had, there are a few things others pointed out, which add up to the topic. In case anyone needs a detailed insight, feel free to DM, I'd be more than happy to help out in whatever way I can. Be it technical or emotional or anything. And that's how, it ended with a mandatory groupfie! Here's to coordinator's twinning swag! And now as mentioned earlier, here's the Highlights of the meetup:A step by step guide by Meet, on How to change your Tinder Profile into a meme to score maximum Right Swipes. The samosa that costed 5 Bucks once, costs 15 Bucks today. Damn Inflation!Yamraj ki gaadi kabi bhi aa sakti hai, so if you haven’t started planning for your Retirement yet, do it ASAP!Eating healthy involves ghar pe khana but ordering it from Swiggy doesn’t count.Meet thought it’s hilarious to objectify himself; no idea why he admitted being Mandir ka Ghanta several times during the meetup.Girls spend 15 minutes of their exam reading time for doing what’s supposed to be done, while Guys spend it deciding what to borrow from whom.If you think you’d need extra energy during exams, it’s okay to carry Dahi Papdi Chat along with you.The more things you carry to exam hall, the more space you have to hide chits!!Apparently all the attendees have an experience of Open Book Exam, it’s just that unlike Me or Mr. Mehalingham, their experience was a top secret.

What are the prerequisites/conditions for conducting a plebiscite in Kashmir, as per the UN resolution?

Here we go again, i have read numerous answers to this question and nearly every answer is biased or ill informed. We all know usual rhetoric on both sides but reality is far complex and it will give you a headache once I will go through the points. We all know what happened and i will not describe how it started and who was the aggressor because question starts where UN Resolution comes in when PM Jawaharlal Nehru goes to UN under section 35 that Pakistan has attacked Indian sovereignty and occupied Indian territory while Pakistan denied the charges and stated that India has obtained the accession by Fraud and Violence and engineered the genocide of Muslims also guilty of aggression in Junagadh which acceded to Pakistan. India is threatening to use direct military action against Pakistan.UN passes Resolution 38 in January 1948 which states that President of UN Security Council will invite both India and Pakistan to take part in direct talks. Both parties reiterate their stated positions which i just mentioned above.UN passed another Resolution 39 in January after listening to both parties to set up the 3 member United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan, which was to carry out investigations in the conflict zone and mediate between the two warring powers. But no commission was formed by UN as they were too lazy even admitted by UN itself and the war continues for another 3 months. political situation vastly changed between January-April 1948. Sheikh Abdullah was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in March 1948.UN passes Resolution 47 in April 1948Part I dealt with ceasefire, calling for a complete cessation of hostilities.Part II dealt with a truce agreement. It asked for a complete withdrawal of Pakistan's fighting forces, including the army, tribes and other Pakistani nationals, and stated that the evacuated territory would be administered by local authorities under the surveillance of the Commission. Following the Pakistani withdrawal, India was expected to withdraw the "bulk of its forces" reducing them to the minimum level required for maintaining law and order.Part III stated that, after the acceptance of the truce agreement, the two countries would enter into consultation with the Commission for settling the future of the state in accordance with the will of the people.UN diplomat Josef Korbel states that this bound the parties only "morally " but not "juridicially".1949 the ceasefire is achieved but now we have a big problem because of the initial delay by UN in January 1948 to form the commission as a result there are two armies and two states on side by side. Sheikh Abdullah is Prime Minister of Jammu & Kashmir with army to command and Sardar Ibrahim Khan is the President of Azad Kashmir with 32 battalions of serious military force from Poonch and Mirpur districts called Azad Army which originally started the rebellion before tribal people of North reached Kashmir, these soldier were previously employed by British Indian Army and were not Part of Pakistan Army as they were citizens of Azad Kashmir. When UN commission realised that i bet they felt dizzy because negotiations kept going on with India saying that Azad Army should be treated as Pakistan Army while Pakistan objected to it saying State army and Indian Army will take over Azad Kashmir if they vacate. Another issue was Gilgit-Baltistan which had Gilgit Scouts plus Pakistan Army and India wanted that territory to be under the Jammu & Kashmir state which Pakistan refused. UN proposed that Gilgit Baltistan will be governed by local authorities like before partition and UN commission will observe and if needed Indian Army will be called but India refused this suggestion.Commission declared its failure and submitted its report citing underrated Azad Army and Northern Areas i.e. Gilgit-Baltistan didn’t get adequate attention.Canadian Delegate Who undertood dispute better than anyoneLater on a Canadian Delegate under A.G.L McNaughton proposed that disband both Azad and J&K State armies and go with only recognised Armies of Pakistan and India. So the demilitarisation will only recognise Pakistani and Indian armies. He also suggested a third option which was independence of Jammu and Kashmir which India rejected but Sheikh Abdullah was happy to accept that.UN passed Resolution 80 which adopted the suggestion by McNaughton leaving out Independence suggestionsimultaneous and progressive demilitarisation by both India and Pakistan to the point where the remaining force would "not cause fear at any point of time to the people on either side of cease-fire line."The northern areas to be administered by local authorities, subjucted to UN supervisionThe Council to appoint a UN Representative to assist in the preparations and implementation of the demilitarization program, to advise the Governments of India and Pakistan as well as those of the Council, to exercise all of the power and responsibilities of the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan, to arrange for the Plebiscite Administrator to assume all the functions assigned to him at the appropriate stage of demilitarization and to report to the Council as he saw necessary.Resolution was passed but could never be implemented as both countries never agreed on methods of demilitarisation.Dixon FormulaIn 1950, the Security Council appointed Sir Owen Dixon, a judge in the Australian high court, as UN representative to India and Pakistan. His report, submitted to the Security Council that September, laid out the “Dixon Plan”, which assigned Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and the Northern Areas to Pakistan, Ladakh to India, split Jammu between the two and recommended a plebiscite for the Valley. Pakistan initially was demured but accepted nonetheless but PM Jawaharlal Nehru changed its stance after agreeing to it in the first place. This in my opinion was the best option where both sides would have been happy.Tashkent and Shimla Agreements:Both countries vowed to resolve the Kashmir dispute by achieving Ceasefire and then follow it up by adopting UN resolutions to demilitarise and work to establish an environment where plebiscite can be held.More Resolutions:See the links belowFurther complications:China holds Aksai Chin since 1962 after defeating India and the Pakistan acceded Shaksgam Valley so that leaves 20% area out of the UN resolutions.UN position of KashmirFor all those Pakistanis and Indians who keep throwing UN resolution at each other and accuse each other of insincerity and lack of interest in peace. UN resolutions are not binding. In 2001, the then Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan during his visit to India and Pakistan, clarified that Kashmir resolutions are only advisory recommendations and they should not be compared to those on East Timor and Iraq.Only One more step towards finishing lineIn 2003, the then Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf announced that Pakistan was willing to "leave aside" the demand for UN resolutions and explore alternative bilateral options for resolving the dispute. We all know both countries nearly agreed on Kashmir resolution without involving UN. During the back channel diplomacy between PM Vajpaeyee and President Musharraf both agreed on couple of solutions which included both countries withdrawing militaries gradually or there was another solution which meant joint control of whole of Jammu Kashmir by India and Pakistan.ConclusionMy Opinion as a Kashmiri is UN is not a credible and strong enough Institution to bring any solution to Kashmir Dispute and track record has proved my statement.I will quote Pakistani writer and humorist Dr M. Younis ButtComedy of United NationsIf there is an issue involving a weak nation and another weak nation, issue disappearsIf there is an issue involving a weak nation and a strong nation, weak nation disappearsIf there is an issue involving a strong nation and another strong nation United Nations disappearsIndia and Pakistan should throw all those resolutions in garbage or ignore it after all same resolutions failed to bring any result. On the other hand President Musharraf and PM Vajpaeyee reached a amicable settlement with only few years of robust diplomacy. That position is still accepted by Pakistani Establishment as Imran Khan mentioned it while interacting with Indian media persons a day after opening of Kartarpur Corridor. All We need is good diplomacy and reduction in hostility on LOC/cross border proxy war by both countries. Thanks for readingP.SI don’t want to be attacked by people calling me or my country names.
