PDF Editor FAQ

Do most people living in Mexico wish they were living in the United States instead?

I’m Mexican, and I attended one of the best universities in Mexico. Later I lived in Germany, and have a very universal point of view. I am white and able to speak English with little to no recognizable accent. My wife, who is also white, and I contemplated the option of living in the US a few years back. at the peak of the drug war in Mexico. We even went to a couple of immigration lawyers in the US. We scouted the cities of Austin and San Antonio because of their proximity to Mexico and availability of flights. We saw condos, houses and apartments. In the end, after a year of prospecting we finally decided that Mexico was a far better place to raise our only daughter. The general “ambience” in American society discouraged us. This distrust and fear that everything and everyone is after you so you need to have a bigger fence, a bigger gun, a bigger military… and also the blatant ignorance of the general population. Having to ask these sorts of questions is proof of what I mean. But what finally put us off was the education level. In Mexico, our daughter can have a much better education, much more universal and less self-centered, much more inclusive and less hateful, and less manipulated in general. I was not going to have my daughter attend a school system that considers “creationism” as something to be taught in school. So, to answer your question: no, not everybody wants to live in the States. You do have very nice pavement though…WOW!, over 1K upvotes, thanks everybody. I wrote this very heartfelt answer and I thank all for identifying with it from both places: USA and Mexico and Mexicans living in America and Mexican Americans… it is mind-blowing to see eye to eye with so many people on Quora.

What is the history of Austin, Texas' founding?

Austin begin as a settlement named Waterloo. In the late 1830’s the city name became Austin. About a decade later there were 2 statewide elections to finally declare Austin as the capitol. This is a link to a great history summary about the great city of Austin, Texas.http://library.austintexas.gov/ahc/brief-history-austin

What are some criticisms of Austin, TX?

The first thing any Austinite is likely to say is that traffic is nightmarish. The rush hour(s) runs from 3:30 to almost 6:30. That's completely insane. Austin is a city of 800k and has the infrastructure of a town. If there is a hell, 5:00 on Mopac or I-35 is definitely it.Secondly, the weather. It's hot all year long. That wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fact that it's also humid all the damn time. Hope you enjoy the experience of living inside a cloud.Thirdly, allergies. It gets so bad in springtime. Cedar, moss, etc, we got all of ‘em. Sneezing and coughing and stuffed noses are things we've all just gotten to used to.This city sucks and I love living here.Correction: Rush hour is from 3 to 7.
