It doesn’t matter what level of student your are. To be elite you need to form incredible habits. Making positive habits a part of your daily routine is absolutely necessary to become elite. Here are a few examples:Do your assigned homework at the same time every day. Make it a routine. Eventually it will become as natural as brushing your teeth or watching your favorite show on tv.Do something extra every day. I would assign a time limit to this method. 5 minutes per grade level (up to an hour) is a good benchmark. So, if you are in the 5th grade, you will need to spend an extra 25 minutes per day going above and beyond what you are learning about in school. For example, if you are reading the book “Holes” in school, maybe you will research what juvenile detention centers are really like.Never miss school and never be late. To be elite you need to be there every day. If you have a 102 degree fever… fine stay home. However, if you want to sit on your couch because you have the sniffles, you better get used to the idea that you will never be elite.Ask questions. Question everything. If you don’t understand something clearly ask your teacher. If they can’t give you a satisfactory answer, find someone who can.Make connections. Connect everything you learn to something else. This will do several things. First of all, it will help you remember the information. Second, you will be able to apply what you learn in one subject to another, increasing your understanding. Third, you will become a much better writer. When you can connect two distinct ideas and draw parallels between those ideas you writing will stand out above the work of your piers.I hope that helped. Number 1 Advice: Work on problems.The material covered in High School Algebra 1/Algebra 2/Geometry classes is sufficient to answer about 20 of the questions right on AMC tests. They just take practice, so that you can get used to the style of problems and how to approach them. There is a huge database of AMC 10 problems here: Art of Problem Solving. If you exhaust this, go on to AMC 12 problems (on the same website), or look for other mocks to do. What you could possibly do is (this method is slightly modified from advice from a different math competition here at Art of Problem Solving):Take the test in normal test conditions: 75 problems in 25 minutes. Be careful to watch your time.Check your answers after the test. Mark the ones you got correct/wrong /blank. After the test, attempt to solve the problems that you did not get.Divide the problems in the test into 4 categories:Completely correct. These aren’t a big deal, but it is good to do them when you are doing practice tests (basically don’t just skip the ones that you know you can do quickly).Correct, but you took a long time. This usually means one of two things: there is a quicker way to solve the problem, or you need to work on speed. It is rarely the latter, as AMC 10 problems are usually not designed to be ridiculously computation-heavy. Check out the solution on AoPS. An important thing is to actually understand how to do the problem quickly, don’t just skim over the solution and move on. I recommend closing whatever you are using to read solutions and solve the problem on paper again. By “long time” I mean above 2:30–3 minutes if you are considering the first 20 questions.Incorrect/ Blank, but you got it after the test. This means that you need to improve speed. You will likely find that with more practice, your speed will increase. Try to move on from a question that is between 1–20 if you cannot get it within 3 minutes.Incorrect, and you have no idea how to solve it. In this case, do what you would do in part b: read the solution, and fully understand it.Rinse and repeat.Now here is where you might have some difficulties. Perhaps the theory that you currently have is insufficient for you to reach that higher level. At this point you might want to study a bit of actual theory rather than just practice problems. I recommend the text the Art of Problem Solving, Volume 1: The Basics. It should have basically all of the theory that is not taught at school that is dealt with on the AMC, and it costs about 50 dollars.With some time and dedication, you should be able to get to an AIME qualifying level by next year. You are surprisingly close: a 102 was only about 2 questions off from AIME qualification on this year’s 10A. Good luck!

Same was with me but I never crossed 160+ in my mock test.LAST 3 MONTHSI used to study for 12–14 hrs a day .Chemistry was my strong point, I worked on it even harder . Scored 102 / 120 . :)Solved each material of my coaching. Even after more than 3 yrs, I do remember many concepts and it comes very handy when my better half asks me to teach her :PNEXT,I Knew my weakness. MATHS , was very much afraid of this subject, but then coordinate geometry, P&C and Probability were my strong areas. I practiced them more so that I won’t miss those questions in the final game . For the other topics, I gave my best and to an extent did justice with them . I couldn’t solve each question of my coaching material, but touched every chapter and practiced few from them.Coming to PHYSICS , the most tricky and conceptual. All you need to excel in this subject are clear concepts and practice . For reference, I studied all the text books of DC Pandey and HC Verma . Do solve HCV, it contains plenty of good problems, especially the objective part. Also there are portions like modern physics and semi conductors where you just simply can’t miss scoring marks . Make sure you do relevant amount of hard work for those.What’s the use of practicing hours in nets if you haven’t played few practice match.What I did prior to 15 days of JEE MAINS?Used to lock myself in a room, sit with 1 mock test (previous year or arihant papers) at 10, exactly the same time at which I was supposed to appear for JEE MAINS exam. Told my mummy not to call me before 3 hrs until and unless its extreme emergency. Would solve the paper without using extra sheets as you are aware you won’t get any in examination. Use to mark answers in hand made OMR :P .Basically doing all these will never be a new thing in examination and you are going to be very comfortable in filling the OMR, concentration wise and many more ..Ultimately your hard work and will power is going to determine your score ..GOOD LUCK :)
