What are the best ways to make your life easier?

Ease is a bit of a paradox. The reason for this is simple. In order to have an easy life (unless you’re born into tremendous wealth) you must first endure a hard life.Today, my life is easier than it’s ever been.I don’t worry about my bills, I have plenty of money to put away at the end of every month, I’m healthy, happy, and generally don’t have to do tasks that I don’t enjoy (I have a maid, personal chef, groceries delivered to my doorstep weekly). But to get to this point, I had to work long hours, sacrifice time with friends, and girlfriends, adopt habits that were hard at the time, and go through more adversity than I care to remember while my peers were partying in Vegas, Jets skiiing in San Diego or wine tasting in Napa Valley…So with this framework in mind, here are 25 things that will make your life easier in the long run (even if they suck in the short term).1. Create Passive IncomePassive income makes your life 20x easier (maybe 50x easier). When you wake up with more money in your bank than you went to sleep with, that’s when life starts to get interesting. You view work differently. You take on projects not for money – but for what’s going to get you out of bed in the morning. However, building a passive income stream is VERY hard upfront. Whether you’re writing a book, building a business, or investing in real estate, you will need to go through some pain to achieve this goal. But when you have enough passive income to cover 100% of your lifestyle expenses in a few years… It will be well worth it.2. Hire People Who Are Better than You Are (Even If You’re an Employee)If you aren’t good at something, then hire someone else to do it.Period.Yes, it’s hard to cough up the cash I get it trust me I get it. You will likely make less in the short term, but in the long term. That’s a different story. If you don’t want to do a task and it’s less expensive to pay someone else than it is to spend your own time on it (to determine this, figure out your hourly rate and then compare it to the cost of outsourcing the task) then do it.I have a housekeeper, a personal chef, and a dozen employees or so. Even though the hiring and managing process comes with its own set of challenges, having these individuals in place has made my life 20x easier.Plus, I’m the type of leader who hires great talent then let that team member run with their own projects. I’m not checking in daily at all. I have 30 minute check ins once per week. It makes everyone more productive and happier to be honest.3. Create Easily Accessible Documents Containing Important InformationSeriously. Scan and save pictures of your driver’s license, passport, social security card, tax returns, important reciepts and anything else you might need later all in a password protected folder. It will take 5 minutes today but could save you hours of wasted time searching for lost documents in the future.4. Do Yoga for 15 Minutes a Day… that’s itIt will reduce stress, ease muscle pain, promote relaxation, and improve your health. It only takes a couple of minutes to reap the benefits and will make the rest of your life profoundly easier. If you don’t have 15 minutes for your health then you’re doing it wrong.5. Exercise In the Sunlight for 15 Minutes Every MorningSure, exercise might seem hard. But you know what’s harder? Struggling with chronic disease, exhaustion, and insomnia.By doing a quick jumpstart exercise 15 minutes in the morning you will keep your body healthy, promote more restful sleep, and stave off illness. Which is MUCH easier in the long run.6. Throw Clothes Away if You Haven’t Worn them in 6 MonthsYou clearly don’t need them and they’re taking up space that you could use for things you care about. Just look at it and if it doesn’t bring you any sort of joy then donate that item.7. Take a Long Weekend and Completely Organize Your House and LifeThese three days will improve the long term quality of your life by leaps and bounds. When you organize your house, your goals, and your life with bulletproof systems, everything becomes easier.8. Never Make Big Purchases on CreditGetting into debt is easy in the short term and painful in the long term. Don’t do it. Please re-read this.9. Use Amazon Prime Pantry to Order Toiletries and Household Items on RepeatThis will save you hours of shopping each month and prevent you from having to waddle like a duck around the house when you run out of toilet paper let alone stand in line at the grocery store to make emergency runs for these items.10. Get Plenty of SleepSleep deprivation sucks. Being well rested and fully recharged makes your life easier. Get 8 hours of sleep a night and you’ll find that your workouts, job, and relationships will improve almost overnight. The people who promote sleeping less to get more done can do that all they want. You’ll outlive them.11. Keep a Daily Gratitude JournalNegativity makes you a miserable person. Life is hard when you’re miserable man.Be grateful instead! It only takes a few minutes and will help you have a more positive and empowering day.12. Buy 3–5 Outfits that Make You Look Like a Million Bucks and Wear them In RotationDo you really need 100 shirts and 30 pairs of shoes?Stick to 3–5 outfits that you love, wear them every week, and then buy a new set of outfits each season during big retail sales events. You don’t have to spend a lot to look and feel great.13. Eat the Same Foods 5 Days a WeekEat whatever you want on the weekends, but stick to the same healthy meals Monday through Friday and you will make your life way easier. This will make tracking your calories, cooking, and shopping for groceries far easier than you can imagine.14. Use Electrolyte Hydration Supplements and Coconut Charcoal Capsules for When You Drink HeavilyTake 2–4 capsules of this stuff before bed and it will reduce your hangover significantly.Which is WAY easier than puking in the morning because you had one too many drinks.15. Invest in an Amazing MattressYou’ll sleep better, feel better, and live better. It’s well worth the cost and one of the few things that I personally think is ok to buy on credit. You will spend 28% of your life on a mattress so why wouldn’t you?16. “Just Google It”Seriously, before you ask your boss, clients, or family members about something, just Google it. This will prevent you from asking stupid questions or wasting people’s time. Figure it out! And only then when you’re absolutely stumped…ask.17. Plan Your Days the Night BeforeHaving unproductive days is HARD. Having them for weeks and months can put you into financial scarcity and make life seem impossible.Instead, ensure productivity by planning your days the night before and having a clear battle plan for every work day.18. Setup Automated Bank Drafts for Your Savings and Investing AccountsPay yourself first and do it automatically. When you have multiple 5-figures in savings and a 6-figure retirement account, your life will get easier than you can imagine.19. Buy a RoombaHate vacuuming? Me too.Buy a Roomba and never pick up a vacuum again.20. Get a Smart Home Set UpWith Amazon Alexa and comparable products, you can save yourself hours upon hours of time each year that you waste by getting up in the middle of the night to change the thermostat, turn lights on and off, or set alarms. It’s expensive up front but it will save you tons of time and effort in the long run.21. Meditate Every Day and for At Least 20 Minutes Before Making Big DecisionsFew things make your life harder than feeling overwhelmed and making bad decisions.By meditating for a few minutes every day and for at least 20 minutes before big decisions you will put yourself into a clear state of mind and make your life far easier as time goes on.22. Cut Toxic People Out of Your LifeThey make your life miserable and aren’t worth your time.It will be hard to cut them out but easier once they’re gone.23. Train MMA for At Least 1 YearThis might seem weird to have on a list like this, but having the confidence in yourself and knowing that you can defend yourself if you were ever put in a dangerous situation makes your time out on the town far more fun and enjoyable.Learn to defend yourself now so that you never have to worry about whether or not you’ll be ok later.24. Binge Watch Funny TV Shows and Standups on a Regular BasisBecause laughter makes life easier.25. Remember that You’re Dead Anyways :)At the end of the day, no one gets off this rock alive. So smile, relax, and don’t worry so much. It’s all going to end one day anyways.Enjoy it while you can, but don’t take it too seriously. It’s not like any of this will matter 1,000 years from now.Want my best stuff on Quora?Click here to read my most popular quora answers about life, wealth and relationships with 7+ million views.

How can you make your life a little harder so that challenges seem easier?

Take cold showers every day. It sounds like it sucks, but it’s like jumping in a river on a hot day. Feels great, and is very energizing. Maybe you’ll even skip your coffee.Always take the stairs. Unless your interview is on the 40th floor and you don’t want to show up sweating like a politician in church…Floss every day. And obviously brush your teeth at least twice a day.Do strength training 3 times a week(no more than that, and don’t train the same muscles 2 days in a row), and progressively increase the amount of weight you use(with proper form).Do 1 hour of yoga at least once a week. Yes - even you, fellas. You need it more than you know.Get at least 15 mins of cardiovascular activity every day. Preferably 30 minutes.Do 15 minutes of sprints or HIIT(high-intensity interval training) 2–3 times a week. Obviously doing this counts for #6 on the days you do this.Initiate at least one conversation every day. It can be the girl that takes your coffee order or that coworker you don’t usually talk to, or calling a friend or family member that you haven’t heard from in a while. Just try to make their day a little better. This forces you out of your own routine and gets you thinking of what you can give rather than what you can get.Be early. To everything. It’s the only way to make sure you’re not late, and there is really no reason to be late. Be accountable - it’s not the traffic’s fault. You didn’t leave on time.Double your goals - or even 10X your goals. Need to make one sale by the end of the week to make your rent? Think about how you could make 10 and I’ll bet you’ll make at least 3.These are just examples - but what you really need to do is keep thinking in terms of “challenges”. Seeing obstacles this way frames them as something that is surmountable and helps you recognize the opportunity present when they are overcome.JohnEDIT:Thanks for all the love on this one!! Glad it’s resonating with people.I’ve thought of a few more(and was reminded by my readers as well):11. Go on a hike at least once a month, preferably once a week. Hiking isn’t only great exercise but it gets you out into fresh air rich with oxygen which is good for the brain - and soul if you ask me.12. Clean your house/apartment in some way once a week. Just vacuum this week. Dust the next. Clean your closet the next.13. Take public transportation to work. I highly recommend this for many reasons. It’ll help you learn to be on time - buses and trains don’t wait for you! You’ll learn how to be vulnerable in front of people, because you have to learn the ticketing system in a busy setting. And you’ll learn social skills being in a cramped box bumping around, possibly crammed to the brim with people. It’s a great way to people-watch and analyze how you want to appear to others having so many examples at your fingertips.
