How do I improve my knowledge as a CA Student?

Roam around the world instead of living in the virtual duniya.Yesterday, I was talking to my CA Practicing friend, who is doing very great in his work. You can judge his credibility by this fact that elite people of our hometown consult him for income tax advice.Me: How you doing, bro?He: Good man. I have grabbed a big man of our hometown. He has got an income tax raid and needed some help. So he called me and after solving his case, he became my client.Me: Wow. But how do you do it?He: Means?Me: How you gain so much of practical knowledge and fix the issues? He: During my internship, my Partner shared his piece of wisdom and I am following it since then.Me: What is that? He: He used to say that when you are free on weekends, go to some shopping mall and understand the procedure of that. I went along with him to enquire about 1BHK flat in Jodhpur and I got a very good knowledge of that. I got to know the agreement T&C, payment terms, how they cheat customers, hidden clauses, current trend of the market, fashion that is prevailing in the market, etc. and that too free of cost.I was listening to his weird piece of advice and still trying to digest his way of working. He: This is how I gained knowledge of the market. Today also when I am free, I visit somewhere to grab new knowledge.Me: Where are you going today? He: Car Showroom.Me: But why?He: I want to have a test drive plus enquire how this business works.I secretly bowed to him.

How can we make money in a 1 MW solar power plant when the unit price is around Rs. 6.50/-?

You can make a lot of money out of it :) if Rs 6.50/unit is available. We have seen a drastic development in the renewable energy sector in a decade and the investment chunk which India is pulling is remarkable. Among all the renewable energy resources solar energy's potential is immense and many FDI's, Big business houses, retailers everybody wants to foray into solar projects and lot of investment is being pumped in. The cumulative installed capacity of solar power in India has crossed the 5 Gigawatt (GW) and close to 2GW Solar capacity is being added which is a phenomenal growth. PM Modi's international solar alliance launch is a again a big boost to this sector. Now what's the biggest threat to this industry is its falling tariff's as per the result of reverse bidding and target to achieve grid parity. Low solar tariff's are being quoted by the FDI's and many other established business ventures as they have pool of low cost funds (lower interest rates) for project implementation and this is somewhere very serious issue for Indian developers and investors for whom lenders are doubtful as project viability is doubtful. For any business a return of 15-17% is decent and in solar particularly it used to be 20-22% just 2 yrs back. The falling prices is a big concern so any offer which is more than 5.5Rs/unit and where your project cost is somewhere around 5.5cr0re/MW is definitely a project to bet on. Although the returns are getting squeezed and hardly people are able to recognize 15% project IRR as per present scenario. As per my view if the tariff is 6.5rs/unit for 1MW project you should look forward to go ahead with the project. Just look into these following points :1. Power Purchase agreement t&c (if it is a govt PPA then payment default is a rare chance but delay in payment is almost prevailing in every state so while projecting your returns keep these things included in the project economics )2. If its a private PPA then credibility of the power buyer a big question.3. Quality of equipment s as its a marriage of 25 years so dont compromise on tier 1 solar modules & inverters .4. Hire a project consultant to keep a check on technical feasibility of the project.5. If your company has depreciation appetite (as per IT act) you have a good deal at 6.5rs/unit.Assuming 16lakh unit generation from 1MW project your revenue realization will be : Rs 10400000 and even if your expenses turn out to be 80lakhs including interest payment, Operation & maintenance and miscellaneous charges your investment is fruitful.

What is it like to be an expat in a country culturally different from yours?

In 2009 I went to work at a hospital in Saudi Arabia as a nurse. A couple of years later I was asked to be a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) in conjunction with the Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH) and coordinate the first Telemedicine program in Saudi Arabia. I was tasked with decreasing the alarmingly high mortality rate of ICU patients in regional MOH hospitals. My first job was to travel all over the country, doing diagnostic visits, inspecting the hospitals, finding out their needs, teaching them and trying to convince them to use the new telemedicine second opinion consults to save their most critical patients. I was slated to travel with a male Jordanian colleague, and since we obviously weren´t married to each other, we needed to first obtain a letter from the king to avoid getting arrested for travelling together. With my “get out of jail free” letter signed by then King Abdullah Abdulaziz himself firmly clutched in my hand; my next step was to book a hotel. Easier said than done. No hotel would give me a room. They had never had a single woman stay at their hotel. Despite that fact that I was western, non-Muslim, and perfectly capable of spending a night in a room by myself, they absolutely refused to give a room to a woman without a “male guardian.”After spending my first trip in hospital accommodations; literally a rat-infested closet with a broken air conditioner, in August, in Saudi Arabia where the temperature climbed to 60º C (140º F), I wasn´t about to do that again with my second trip. This time I was heading up to the mountainous western region of Taif. After the desk clerk at the hotel in Taif refused to give me a room, I picked up the phone and called the prince in charge of the MOH. I spoke to his secretary and told him of my dilemma. “Mafe mushkula (no problem).” He told me. Fifteen minutes later, the desk clerk called me back.“Sister, we have a room for you!”“Alhamdullilah! (Praise be to God)” I said wryly. “It must be a miracle.”“Sister, why didn´t you tell me you had wasta?” (connections.) “The secretary of His Royal Highness himself called me.”“No kidding.” I said, trying not to laugh. After my flight, I arrived at the hotel. I was met at the front desk by what appeared to be every employee in the building. They all wanted to stare at the crazy western woman who was going to stay in a hotel room by herself. The manager looked as nervous as a cat at a pit bull convention. He had been told by the desk clerk of my “wasta” with the prince, and he was terrified that if something happened to me on his watch, he and his head would get a one-way ticket to Riyadh, where they would abruptly part company in Chop-Chop Square one fine Friday afternoon after mosque. He showed me to my room and informed me to lock the door and not to go anywhere. A little while later I heard a noise in the hall and looked through the peephole. There were four Filipino men sitting on the floor in front of my door. An hour later, I checked again, and they were still there. I opened the door to confront them.“What are you doing out here?” I said harshly.“The manager told us that we had to stay here all night and guard your door.”“Guard against what?”“We have to make sure that no man goes in your room.”I was incredulous. “What man?”They shrugged. “We don´t know. Any man. The manager said we can´t leave your door all night.”The next morning, I came out and found my bodyguards still lying on the floor. They scrambled to their feet when they saw me. I gave them a thumbs up. “You guys did a great job. No man came into my room last night.”They smiled at me and nodded and as I walked away to get breakfast, one of them called after me. “Don´t forget the fruit for the monkeys!”I turned around. “What?”“Don´t forget the fruit for the monkeys.” He repeated. The other three nodded in agreement.“Uh, ok.” I was perplexed. Was this some sort of secret Tagalog code? What monkeys? There aren´t any monkeys in Saudi Arabia. After breakfast, the waiter came up to me and started handing me bananas, mangoes, and grapes. I stopped him. “No, I can´t eat anymore.” I said.He shook his head. “No, sister, not for you, for the monkeys.” He informed me that my car and driver were waiting and left.I accepted the fruit and went to the lobby, ready to walk out. The man at the desk nodded approvingly at what I was carrying.“Good.” He said in Arabic. “You have fruit for the monkeys. Make sure you throw it far.”I was certain that there weren´t any monkeys in Saudi Arabia, but… I went to the sliding glass doors with their acid etching to help block the sun´s rays and saw that my driver had pulled the car on to the semi-circle drive in front of the hotel. The doors whispered open and I stepped into the suffocating heat.At that point, I realized that I had been right. There weren´t any monkeys in Saudi Arabia.Give me the fruit, bitch! There were baboons. I stared in shock at the huge male baboon standing between me and my car and the rest of his family waiting for him off to the side. There were baboons everywhere! I was frozen.Apparently, the baboon didn´t think much of my critical thinking skills at that moment and decided to push me into action. He calmly sauntered over to my waiting car, rested a hand on the side mirror, glanced over his shoulder at me, and ripped off the mirror as easily as batting away a fly.My driver erupted in a screaming fit at the baboon. It was the MOH´s car, and I knew he was wondering how he was going to explain this. “You see, sir, there was this giant monkey, and…”I quickly threw the fruit as far as I could, waited for the baboon to race after it, gathered up my abaya and ran to the car, jumping in as fast as I could.“Malesh. (sorry)” I muttered to the irate driver as I got in. Then wondered why I felt the need to apologize for the baboon´s behaviour. The driver continued to shout at the animal. My rudimentary Arabic didn´t include profanity but I am pretty certain that the Arabic words for “F—king monkey!” passed through his lips several times during the tirade. So now that Saudi Arabia has opened up for tourism, for anyone who goes to Taif:DON´T FORGET THE FRUIT FOR THE MONKEYS!
