The process does not stop there and with admissions begin a completely different set of paperwork – for student visas. An important component of the same are the financial documents. And while the specifics might change from country to country and university to university, every document essentially follows a format. This is a guide of the many documents students would require, samples of formats for financial documents specific to study abroad and basic good to know facts. We start by explaining some of the terms commonly used by Universities/ Consulates for Confirmation of Admission/ Student Visa Applications respectively.Proof of Funds or Financial Capacity: MeaningOne of the basics of Student Visa Applications is the requirement of Proof of Funds or Financial Capacity. For almost all countries (barring very few), students are required to provide evidentiary proof that they are able to not only pay for the fee but also normal living expenses for the duration of the stay. While some universities might ask for the same as well, it is often done after the admission offers are sent out and are taken to further assist in processing the visas. Irrespective who asks for the same, the fact remains that Proof of Funds refer to the proof positive that the student would be able to bear the cost of studying abroad. The costs include two chief components:1. Fees and other University chargesStudents are often required to make payment of this component in advance to confirm admission offer. Again, a country might request proof of funds for one year while some might ask for fund availability for the entire tenure of the course’s normal duration. The short-term visa is valid for a period not exceeding 90 days during 180 days period from the date of first entry. Each transit through the territory of Ukraine should not exceed 5 days. There are single, double and multiple entry transit visas issued for the period indicated in the supporting documents. However, the period should not exceed 1 year unless otherwise provided by International Agreements of Ukraine.Grounds for issuing transit visas:Document confirming the transit nature of travel (visa to a third country, tickets etc);Document confirming the transit nature of transportation of cargo or passengers;License for international transportation services issued by the competent authority in the host country.2) Short-term visa (C type) is issued to foreign citizens and stateless persons if the duration of their stay in Ukraine does not exceed 90 days during 180 days period from the date of the first entry. Short-term visas can be single, double or multiple entries for 6 months or for the period of time indicated in the documents that constitute grounds for obtaining the visa, but not exceeding 5 years.Grounds for issuing short-term visas:Invitation from a person or entity issued by the regional body or by the Division of the State Migration Service of Ukraine;Invitation issued by a Ministry, other central executive authorities, state institutions, enterprises or organizations;Certificate of the Person of Ukrainian origin and his/her application along with the results of the interview with the Ukrainian diplomatic or consular staff and evidence for Ukrainian ethnical descent or Ukrainian origin of the foreign citizen or stateless person. The spouse and children of the person of Ukrainian origin, if traveling and staying in Ukraine together, has to submit an application and documents confirming family relationship;Documents, confirming a tourist nature of travel (tourist voucher), evidence of paid/reserved roundtrip tickets, prepaid hotels;Invitation from a Ukrainian medical treatment institution;Document confirming the registration of foreign investment into the economy of Ukraine in amount of not less than 50 thousand USDConfirmation of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine on the entry of the foreign citizen or stateless person with the purpose of providing humanitarian aid or charity;Invitation from a duly registered by the State body religious organization, for short-term stay in Ukraine for religious matters;Petition from the head of a foreign mass media for a foreign correspondent or representative of a foreign media who travels to Ukraine for short-term stay to perform his/her professional duties;Petition from state authorities of foreign states or international organizations;Written instruction of the head of Diplomatic/Consular Mission on visa issuance to ensure the interests of foreign policy.3) Long-term visa (D type) is issued to foreign citizens or stateless persons traveling to Ukraine for the purpose of processing documents that give the right to stay or reside in Ukraine. The long-term visa can be issued by the Diplomatic Mission or the Consulate General of Ukraine as single entry visa for 45 days, except as otherwise provided by law.Grounds for issuing long-term visas:Duly certified copy of the employment permit for foreigners and stateless persons issued by the state employment service. For foreigners and stateless persons whose employment in accordance with the laws of Ukraine is carried out without employment permit, instead of such a permit an employment agreement (contract) is submitted, and for those who have the status of the person of Ukrainian origin - employment contract (contract) and certificate of the person of Ukrainian origin;Copy of the immigration permit issued by the regional body or division of the State Migration Service of Ukraine;Permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to issue visas to family members of a person recognized as a refugee in Ukraine or a person in need of additional protection or granted temporary protection in Ukraine;Original standardized invitation for study (internship) issued by a higher education institution and registered in prescribed manner at the Ministry of Education and Science;Invitation from the state institution, enterprise or organization that is a recipient of international technical aid;Invitation from a duly registered by the State body religious organization, for long-term stay in Ukraine for religious matters;Invitation from the branch office, divisional office, representative office or any other structural cell of a duly registered foreign public non-governmental organization;Invitation from a duly registered foreign representative of a foreign business entity approved by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine;Invitation from a duly registered branch office or representative of a foreign bank;Petition from a foreign mass media approved by the State Committee for television and radio broadcasting;Foreign government’s petition for diplomatic and consular staff, or staff and representatives of international organizations who enter Ukraine for long-term stay to perform their professional duties and for their family members;Invitation from the relevant government agency responsible for the implementation of cultural, educational, scientific, sports, volunteer programs, - for foreigners or stateless persons who enter Ukraine to participate in such programs, or volunteer organization duly registered in Ukraine;Document which confirms the fact of marriage to Ukrainian citizen (in case the marriage is contracted abroad, the marriage certificate should be apostilled or legalized in the state of its origin pursuant to the Law of Ukraine “On International Private Law);Document confirming that a person is a family member of a foreigner or stateless person who have temporary residence permit in Ukraine (documents issued by the competent authorities of a foreign country should be legalized, unless otherwise provided by law or international treaty of Ukraine, and submitted with a duly certified translation into Ukrainian, and if this is not possible - in English), a copy of the relevant temporary residence permit, and of the standard form, which confirms the proof of sufficient financial means to maintain family members in Ukraine;Other documents if required by International Agreements of Ukraine.Visa application should be accompanied by the following documents:1) Duly filled in application form;2) Passport (valid for at least three months after the declared exit date from Ukraine, issued no more than ten years ago and contains at least two spare pages);3) Copies of all pages of the applicant`s valid passport that contain any information such as passport data, residence address, data of the parents and spouses, visas and entry/exit stamps;4) Bank statement for the last six months certified by the issuing bank, confirming sufficient funds for the period of intended stay in Ukraine or the host party’s letter of guarantee that it undertakes all the expenses related to the foreign citizen’s or stateless person’s stay in Ukraine and exit from Ukraine;5) Insurance policy (original and copy) for the period of intended stay in Ukraine. In case of multiple entry visa, the insurance policy for the period of the first intended stay in Ukraine should be submitted.If required, the authorized staff may ask a foreign citizen or stateless person who is applying for a visa, for an additional interview and any additional documents to clarify the purpose of traveling such as:Documents confirming booking or payment for accommodation;Documents proving that a foreign citizen or stateless person has sufficient funds for the whole period of stay in Ukraine and for return to the home country or a lawful way of receiving such funds while staying in Ukraine;Round trip air tickets or other documents demonstrating the foreign citizen’s or stateless person’s intention to leave Ukraine before the visa expires.Applicants for student visa (“D” type) along with the application have to submit the following documents:1. Original of invitation for study and its photocopy;2. Original of birth certificate and its photocopy with translation into Ukrainian language;3. Original of school-leaving certificate with transcript of marks and their photocopies with translation into Ukrainian language;4. Medical certificate of general fitness and its photocopy issued no more than 2 months before University studies’ process begin;5. Original of affidavit (sponsorship letter), which has to contain: a full name of a sponsor, his/her address, telephone numbers, e-mail, and obligation of a sponsor to cover expenses (stating sum of expenses) of an applicant;6. Photocopy of sponsor`s ID/passport;7. The original of person’s or sponsor’s bank statement for the last six months. Minimum amount should be sufficient to cover all applicant’s expenses during his/her first year in Ukraine (tuition fees and daily expenses);8. The insurance policy valid for the period of stay in Ukraine and its photocopy.Birth certificates, school-leaving certificates and medical certificates must be legalized by the relevant Ministry of foreign affairs.Regular visa is issued on the 15th calendar day from the date of submission of the visa application and supporting documents. The applicant can reapply, with proof of visa refusal, and a letter of appeal, within two months from the date of the visa refusal.If a foreign citizen or stateless person decides to withdraw the visa application, he/she loses the right to appeal.
