I’m an Australian. I like Australia. I am very proud of where we’re at with COVID-19, especially with the efforts going on to contain the Victorian outbreak.Hence, when I find an article that says “Australia leads world on virus response” and read this:Australia's bipartisan and federated response to the coronavirus has been applauded as best in class by the president of the world's biggest gold multinational, but with the proviso that any restart of normal life should be guided by health experts and approached conservatively.I think ‘that’s right’.That’s confirmation bias. I am more likely to believe things that are apparently consistent with what I already believe.

Donald Trump was in his office about 6 miles away from Ground Zero on the day of the event. This is confirmed by a reporter calling him for a comment on the event. Trump’s primary comment was that now that the towers had collapsed, he now had the tallest building in downtown Manhattan.There is a photo of Trump that some claim was taken at Ground Zero, but was taken on Wall Street which is about a mile away. There are no photos of Trump at Ground Zero during recovery.There are no records of Trump employees assisting at Ground Zero. First Responders supervising the recovery have confirmed this.

As a conservative, a retired judge, and a student of history, I am sadly disappointed that judge Kavanaugh was confirmed. I believe that he is intellectually capable of doing the job, but both ideologically and temperamentally unsuited to sit on the highest court.A view of history should give some insight to those who believe Kavanaugh was a great appointment by POTUS, and was unfairly treated. Prior to recent changes in senate rules confirmation hearings were often contentious and some said unfair. Appointees came from opposite ends of the ideological spectrum, but were ultimately confirmed by a 60 vote majority in the Senate. Why is this important you ask?The easy answer is that the then sitting President knew that an appointment of an ideologically and/or temperamentally unsuitable candidate would be unlikely to garner 60 out of 100 votes in the Senate. (e.g Bork). The result then was to appoint conservative or liberal candidates, (depending on the party of the President) who were qualified, but less than ideogical or temperamental firebrands.With the advent of our present political climate, the Senate changed the rules for confirmation to allow a mere majority to confirm. This allowed the nomination of less qualified and more ideological candidates, such as judge, now Justice, Kavanaugh.We can and should do better America.
